Moving from Emperor to Immortal

I'd have settled my 2nd (or 3rd) city to gain cow+floodplains without a second thought. It's a good city and will grow cottages for capital. Having 6 cities at this point is not necessarily a problem, but having 6 cities and producing only 50:science: per turn certainly is.

Again, can't open the save but I think it's clear you need to go elepult war on Joao. Focus on getting troops and attacking asap.

Game abandoned. Managed eventually to take out Joao, but had a couple of costly misplay/misclicks. Quit when William (22 cities) was about to build Apollo project while I struggled to get steampower.

Q: Is killing your neighbor a prerequisite even for a peaceful victory at immortal?

Sorry to hear it didn't go too well. Try again?

Not necessarily, but it helps if you can rush somebody, get a juicy capital++, and a host of workers.

Usually the game requires war at some point, but you can postpone it a lot. In the first Deity win I got on my own (after the initial "help me" thread), I REXed to 6 cities, was defended by the lordly warriors, until Libbing Military Tradition and doing the usual thing.

If the territory is right, you can simply peacefully expand and play a more peaceful game, going culture or even UN. But it does help to expand your economic base with early-ish warfare. On Immortal you kinda need half-decent units, because Axe rushing, although possible, gets expensive. You can do it with Chariots too, but it's tricky, and a unique unit like War Chariot or Immortal makes it much more manageable. Then you have HAs, which are quite handy for rushes on Immortal, at least if you manage to take out an AI without metal, as spears are very, very nasty.

I couldn't open the save but it looks like the land you settled was very poor. That double silver site was average really. A decent city needs food. You had lots of flood plains north of your capital. it looks like you moved your capital away from them. Overall at best you had 2 cities that were whippable.

When things go wrong at the start you gradually lose control of the game the further you play on as Ai bonuses during era changes increase. Really by 1300ad you needed a plan to win. Either by cuirs or an early pult war to ensure you have decent land.

Early on you needed to keep JoaII pinned down. It does not look like you did this. Worker stealing early on really helps. You look to have settled a lot of safe cities to your south where really the northern sites were key. HA rush here might of made sense.

Yes, placement of 2nd city was a mistake. Should gone north towards Joao and more floodplains.
Going straight to BW and there was no bronze, did not help either. Teching was insane fast among Willy, Charley, Joao and KK and I added fuel to that.

Perhaps TGW was a mistake, but enjoyed the Great Spies. I mean, 1 G-spy must be worth 3 G-Scientists when counting in techtrades you can do with stolen monopoly techs.

Edit: Used Better BUG AI, thats maybe saves was not compatible?

I suggest that you try the same map again, at least the first 100 turns. Only then you can see if things can be done better.

I agree that TGW might be pretty good on this map.

Thanks all for following.

Hate to do the same map over.

Here is new try: Play Now, Fractal, Standard size and duration. Hammurabi.

Semi isolation with Zara is not a very nice thing. The scoundrel can and does DOW at pleased. Then he starts without mysticism (bad) and his favourit civic is theocracy. Guess how difficult it is to make him friendly.
Tried the map two times. In the first attempt I settled 2E from initial position and expanded to 7 cities by 750 BC. In 600 BC I was 5 turns of currency and the next turn Zara declared. Should have teched archery of course. This would not be too big detour and Zara isn't going to trade anything anyway. Though I could survive it is unclear what to do further.

I the second attempt I resorted to SIP. Expanded to 4 cities and went for a rather late HA rush. Stoped at 400 BC. I am at 8 cities now. Unfortunately that lazy bastard haven't teched Alpha yet, so I have to do it myself. I'm going to take one more city and extort some techs for peace, then give one city back to Zara for fair trade bonus and trade aplha. Although I am lagging behind it does not seem all that bad. At least my empire soon will be really big for a standart size map, and hopefully I will be able to catch up.

Downloading and installing this mod will take about a minute. It will even automaticaly create a shurtcut to run BTS with the mod. I see no reason to look for the other way.

Can confirm. Installation is easy and creates own shortcut. Mod includes Better AI.

Thanks for shadowplay Anysense. And other following the thread.

Currently it is 1510AD:

Spoiler :
Still alive and lead 11-10 i cities versus him. Captured 3 cities from him in a war around 1080AD with maces. And the fat barb city most southeast. Currently thinking about a cunning plan to take over all his cities and have a 21-ish cities empire and space-win. But lack time this weekend to execute.

Kept peace with him, thank god. Perhaps it was that I did not expanded into his core area? The worst part of the semiisolation with him was that he did not want to trade tech even at pleased. Another strange thing was that he did not found a single religion. So me and him was total heathens for more than 5000 years.

Perhaps this is an exception and selftech archery and do a Bowman-rush?

Yes, right. Was still hoping he would as he has a certain flavour for religion. Anyway, he never raised red fist. Perhaps because I tried to keep powerratio at around even and also not settling straight up in his front yard. Rather low risk game by me, but downside of security, is slow development. He was very focused on culture in my game so no real trouble. Taking 3 cities from him was rather easy.

In early game; was unlucky with 3rd city. Settler escorted by chariot. Barb spear popped up from fog when founding city and razed.

Not sure about a soon assault on him now. Oromo warriors looks troublesome. Perhaps wait for Grenadiers.

Played till 1210 AD. I am behind in tech but not far. Have just finished astronomy which increased bpt by ~150. Owning a whole continent has an important advantage - lots of monopoly resources. Happy cap greatly increased so my economy has potential to grow significantly in near future. Next GP will born in 4 turns, I planned to start GA and switch civics to HR+Bureaucracy+Caste+OR.

Does anyone have a link to the Mod? The one I tried to download had a virus. Out of curiosity, does this Mod have the great tools I'm used to from Bat 4.1 Blue Marble?

Here is link to thread. It also tell how to combine with BAT.

Link to file here at CFC:

Not sure where I downloaded it but never encountered any trouble.
I still got the installer I've used during the years on my computer. Where to upload without having to register?

BTW: I see there is a mod called Better BAT AI. May try that for next game.

Nice output of beakers you got. You are not behind (300 years earlier). Think you got a great position by owning whole continent. Me have to go through a major war 500 years later with gunpowder for it.
Sure, Astronomy important on this map. Beelined it (more or less) after beelining CS. I think diplomacy will be important in the future so need to play that right with AI on other continent. About your switch to OR: Do you got any religions? And who will be annoyed or pleased by having one?

Diplomacy is rather complicated here. It seems that they all had rough time because everyone with its own religion. Diplomatic victory is doubtful here. Also I have no taste for overseas warfare. On the other hads prospects for space race are good.
Zara founded confucianism. It is presented in 13 of my cities now. OR was the only option at the moment. Pacifism is certainly better. My GP farm will hire at least 6 specialists soon. With an upcoming GA total boost towards GP production will be 300%. I did not really expect this but I ocasionally built MOM in 720 AD.
