Moving save games between computers?

I've looked around and I can't find any really answer to this question so maybe you guys can help me? I actually have two questions.

First off when you save your GOTM game do you create a new save file or can you overwrite your previous save? I normally overwrite so that my save folder doesn't get to cluttered. What is the preferred method?

My second question leads back to this threads title. I play most of the week on my home computer then on the weekends I tend to stay at a friends where I have another computer set up. Is it allowed to take your save game and move it to another computer so that I can continue playing on my game on the weekend? That way I can continue to work on my game regardless of where I'm at.

Some clarification on these two points would be greatly appreciated, I'm looking forward to starting on C3C GOTM 09. Thanks!

There is none -- do whatever's most convenient for you.

There's no problem with that, either. Welcome to game of the month. :)

Hi :wavey:

I tend to keep all my saves. There are only a dozen or so per game at actual break points, plus maybe another 5 to 10 to help with spoiler preparation. I'm a squirrel, so I never throw them away. But if you keep them together in a folder with the name of the game then you can just dump them all after the game results are published.

If you want to enter the QSC you need a 1000BC save, and we ask you to keep two or three intermediate saves from your game in case we decide to check it prior to results publication. Then there's your final save, so that's four or five anyway. You may also want to make some intermediate saves at critical points in order to produce spoiler information, images etc. later on.

What files do I need to copy to move a saved game to another computer?

Welcome to CFC and GOTM :wavey:

If it's a standard game using no mods then you just need to copy a .SAV file to the other PC. If you are using a floppy disk then it's best to make a manual save because they are compressed. Auto saves are uncompressed and are usually too big to fit on a floppy. They also take longer to upload/download via email.

Then it gives me the path of the file.

I did a straight copy to a Mem Stick and then put the .sav in the saves directory on the new computer.

Are both copies of Civ3 the same version? Upload the file you are copying here and I'll take a look at it.
