What are your thoughts on moving the first settler around to ensure you get a good spot? I always try to build my first city in the first turn. However, I just had a game where if I had just moved around two or three turns, I would have found a MUCH better spot for that initial city. Also, what are your thoughts on disregarding the suggested city placement (the blue circle)? I feel sometimes it is right on, but sometimes it just goes against my general city placement strategy.

Thanks!

I completely ignore those blue circles...

When placing cities, try to place them so that they're sandwiched between resources 2 tiles away. That way, after the first cultural expansion, you'll have all these resources. Also, I often place cities next to much forest. That way, I can chop.
