MP3 Player Suggestions?

Also remember that when the companies advertise about how many songs fit into their mp3-players they mean songs in mp3 format. You dont want mp3 format, its very bad quality.

I disagree - some of the players I've been looking at actually say MORE songs for WMA then with Mp3... I'm not sure why.

As for quality - I've taken some of my legally purchased songs (WMA format), burned to CD as WAV and then ripped back to my hard drive (as I'm legally allowed to do - the company that sells the music suggests it due to the fact that some portable devices don't support WMA with DRM) and I can't here any noticeable loss in quality on my home stereo as long as they are ripped at an acceptable bit rate (192).

I recently bought this : http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4029147

1GB MP3 storage and Voice Recording. It plugs directly into any USB port and takes a single triple-A battery.

I paid over $100 for it, looks like the price has dropped significantly. for me, :) for you.

Enjoy, and whatever you buy, carry a ziplock bag with you in case it rains, it'd suck to lose a near (or over) $100 investment from a storm.

J&R is always an awesome store. Love going to their only actual store two blocks from my college to look at things.

I think I've settled on one of these two (leaning more towards the sandisk) or the 1gb variations of each:

Creative Labs MuVo Micro N200 512MB MP3 Player

SanDisk SDMX-512 512MB MP3 Player

Not totally sure because they're both nice machines for the money... And again - I'm leary of the brands as I'm used to buying tradional audio brands such as SONY...

I would go for the Creative.

And you do realise that you can convert wma to mp3 on your PC right?

:shakehead And I thought you were better than that.

What's wrong with ipods? I have an ipod mini, and I think it's great. Of course, it wouldn't be right for RedWolf, because he needs one that can play WMA files which are DRM-protected, but I still don't get your point.

I'm not sure that they can be converted to MP3's if they are DRM potected. At least I haven't found any softare that can do it.

Why the Creative? Both machines do exactly what I want.. However the sandisk is a little cheaper and I personally think it looks way cooler. Do you think that creative is generally just a better brand? (I know little about either).

Oh, sorry, I didn't realise they were protected .

I say so because Creative are generally a respected and reliable brand.

I do agree that the other player looks better, but is that all you want?

It's not as if it will always be in view anyway.

And Creatives are reckoned to have better sound quality.

It's all down to you though :).

Regarding the looks of the machine - no it's not the ONLY thing I want. However everything else being equal I would certainly choose the "cooler" one. And thats why I'm making these enquiries.. If the creative has better sound quality then I would choose it over the sandisk. However the reviews I've read both have great things to say about both models...

Does anybody here have experiences with either or both brands?

Yeah, nothing wrong with iPods. No need to hate it just because it's the most popular. I like my iPod a lot - the only thing I really have against it is the average customer has to send it into Apple to get the battery replaced (and pay $100 for a new one!!). Although luckily I won't have to do that for several years.

Actually, they recently chanched that to 60 $ (plus shipping). That's good, 'cause 100 $ was too much.

EDIT: Apparently, they only changed that in the US, so I'll have to pay more than 100 € when my battery runs out :(. I hope they reduce the price here before I'll need a replacement.

They are the spawn of Stan, and I can proove it.

That Stan is an evil guy.

Though I am tired of those trademark white earphones. I'd have to look around anyway should I ever feel like buying one.

Making customers pay $100 (or $60 now) to replace a battery is just stupid. If they had made the product better in the first place, then the battery would not start to die after a year or so, no matter how mcuh you use it. Sure, all rechargable batteries gradually reduce capacity, but no other MP3 player has the same problem.

Looking for a mp3 player ?

I advise you to take Winamp !

Ok, ok, sorry, couldn't resist...

all other mp3 players have the same problem, if they use a lithium battery they will die. only the creative zen has a user replacable battery,

Don't get anything small. Go for at least 6 GB.
