MrB4...Beyond the PC Problems

same here. Interesting: At MrBs save Isabella attacks us with a stack of 8 caravels trying to raid our 2 west coast cities. Belisar will have to watch her very closely and try to prevent her stealing on our continent via some northern route.

I can load the MrB_388 fine. The autosave has the same error as the other "corrupted" version. Seems your civ version is fine now. Can you with your newly installed civversion load your old autosave? Seems to me the installation was corrupted, not only the save.

BtW: I saw some snow over 700m when I drove through the "Untere Inntal" today. Season starts, it seems. And I made a trip on Sat from Kufstein-Elmau-St. Johann-Kiztbühl-Brixen-Alpbach-Wörgl by car. Not nice to drive, but lots of Ski-lifts left and right of the track!

Strange, I can load both saves.
OK, I will upload another, from the autosave and +2 turns, then normal save.

I can load the first, but not the autosave. ps: Izzys stack is ther above the privateers; should you begin to play again move 2-3- of our Privs to intercept. Good luck with the play and game compatibilities

Hi, folks!

I talked to Belisar and he should post this weekend.

Being bored I solved an issue on our future project: to exchange leaders in a Mod, you have to open it with wordpad or so. In the beginning of the save the teams and their properties are saved. If you exchange now LEADER_DE_GAULLE with LEADER_NAPOLEON and in the following line also the names, you get Nappy to choose. instead of de Gaulle. You have to type in the correct name (some are weirdly written, Augustus Ceasar has for instance LEADER_AUGUSTUS and in the following line Caesar as his name); but you can find out by starting an ordanary game with the leaders you like to know and you simply read them then out from the save.

Nice weekend!

Hi, folks!
I talked to Belisar and he should post this weekend.
Another weekend, another post.
Next time you better specify the correct year ;)

Being bored I solved an issue on our future project
Oh, we will get to this one soon but we need some more balancing (the huts is Europe for example where removed by all this additional civs, if you have spare time you can place them -> hint, hint :mischief:

Onwards...

OK, I have zero time but got a couple of rounds done, mostly continued our build up.

Analysis:

We are doing good on the tech front bit our production is only barely with the leader.
We might need switching to nationhood if we really want a serious war, we can decide later on that.

I start by redoing the banana-for-clam deal with S-man and I also trade wheat for spices with Izzy.
We get +3 health (in our big cities with grocers) and this immediately solves our health issues
(Bursa was already at -3, that's 1.5 scientists)
Please check F1 regulary to see such problems and negotiate deals immediately so that we don't suffer health
and happy issues.
Also try to spread the deals over as much AIs as possible to prevent dependancy from one AI.
The Micro-Monger inside me nearly went catatonic when I saw that Vija... is working 2 umiproved sea tiles
instead of 2 fishes :smoke:
I figure it was done to avoid exceeding the happy-health cap, gentlemen, whenever we hit those caps we need to
do something about it like trading more ressources, more people = more power!

Our privateer fleet is really doing great. We have already starved 3 cities from each Brennus and Ramses big time,
now Ramses is next on the starve-list.
He has for sure a lot of caravells, I think we need more ships.
Brennus wants replacement parts for scientific method, no thanks.
I'm rolling my eyes as Izzy, second last in demographics, says hallo and wants 3000 gold as tribute,
I tell her where she can go, I think we must keep an eye on here.

I continued our build up with cannons and rifles. Some leeves and jails for improving the infrastructure.
Privateers continue to bring in some added benefits every turn.
I sunk a lot of ships including some of Brennus, Ramses and Izzy.
I suggest to have a look at the save and discuss first, as we need to get into this situation again (not aztecs there, Acid ;) )

Tech: we need to discuss if we take assembly line for infantry or Railroad (as we have not a single source of coal
we need to know where the oil is ASAP)
So, all in all I still think that we are a bit light on units for an invasion, our tech advantantage is nice tough.
Our cash can then be used to upgrade selectively (for example the highly promoted horse archer).
We have a great general waiting and maybe we should wait for a super-naval unit for the war.
Ships are really keay on this map.

Don't stop building units. I built a stable in Istanbul so that we can churn out the cavalry, Edrine is exclusively for cannons,
but we also need more defense-rifles and don't forget the ships, keep those privateers and frigates coming after the
current infra is done in the main cities.
I also started on spies, we need a few for scouting our beachhead.

I suggest to have a look at the save and discuss first, as we need to get into this situation again (not aztecs there, Acid ;) )

Belisar, I still can not load the savegame!

The message is as before "error....., expected save version 301 or lower"
Please, check batt if the save works with your setup!

Remark: looking at the map I see an island to the SW of our continent we should explore.

My next slots for playing are tue, wed, thu if we solve the problem.
Cheers and hope for a Cordoba reloaded tomorrow!

I can load the game

civ version 313
save version 301
build version 3.0.0.1

Bu I See a source of coal in MAlata!!! directly on the city site! can you check it, Belisar? Do we have to abandon the city (if possible) to gain access (can still not see that we have access to it)

OK, I tried a zip version of the save, should be in your mail.
I'm getting more and more frustrated with the technical side of this game.

@batter: at malatya, there is iron, no coal, the city is founded on a desert-iron tile.
Ressources in cities are connected automatically when you gain the tech.
There is also no way to abandon a city in Civ4 (with the exception of autoraze at size 1), very annoying sometimes.

HEy, this thread did not nearly take as long as Duke Nukem Forever programming or the Apokalypse now filming :trophy2nd:!!!!

To be fair to my comrades I also must say that we already planned the next 2 SGs in our heads as well as the ending of this one; all it needs is just a tiny little bit of execution

you know, this is a hall of fame thread of sorts.

Aug 18, 2007, 01:24 PM was the creation date and it's still being played...

My young friend, If you think this is a long timeframe I should tell you about my huge earth map game, was created with Civ3 in April 2005 and is still beeing played.
On some Sunday-nights I take a turn, takes about 2-3 hours to move nearly
1000 units. :old:

It's not that that we have some sort of stress with this one, MrB's currently setting up his system :coffee:

Hi Folks

Whats the status?

I checked the save and have a few ideas concerning the next step:
1) we still have a lot of old units (6 Warriors, 4 war elephants, 1 trebuchet, 1 sword and most important: 1 chariot with MEdiC2 2 which we should take with the invasion)

we have at the moment 3000€, ~400 per upgrade = ~8-9 upgrades possible, warriors can be upgraded optional as they are mostly used for MP issues

at the moment we have transport capacity of 15, 6cavs+8Rifles+Chariot+4cannons = we need more galleons and also I would think 2 more frigates

For the invasion: we want to sack the Apostolic palace and the coal
So my vote: we attack Bibrace (very weak) and Elephantine. We resettle El 1 tile northeast as this city place is imo better (no paper wasted, coal in the first ring)

We defend the new city, ignore thebes for the moment and attack with both forces Memphis before we focus on Thebes and the rest of the continent.

2.nd alternative: we Attack Bibrace with everything we have now first (Ap most important for the moment) then mop up brennus (should be easy) and after Brennus we attack Memphis with the northern force and El. with newly built units from our continent. This plan would delay the coal issue unfortunately but would spare us to divide our forces

Plans are open for discussion, but we need 2 more frigates for bombarding cities from a safe position. If we want to delay the attack until we have enough units to mop up brennus and attack Ramses simultaneously, we als need more galleons

Waiting for your comments.....

I completely agree, we need more ships and more defense-rifles.
Also don't split up our forces, we lack the production to reinforce 2 beachheads.
A few spies are necessary to "keep the big picture".

Some of the outdated units should serve as garrisons, no need to upgrade them with the exception of an emergency.
The medic should also not upgrade as we do not want him to actually fight and perhaps lose.
Some highly promoted mounted units can be selectively upgraded.

And don't forget to build sips on the west coast, too.

Hi, Folks!

I had a look into the game and will proceed as follows:

-Edrine will build levee next
-build more ships and rifles
-Cavalry is imo secondary (we don´t need much harassement / we have only 2-3 rather close cities to take)
-only war vs. Ramesses (take Thebes + coal, raze Memphis if neccessary) I fear Brennus will become vassal to S-man very quickly if he is attacked -> more problems than we want.
-Privateers only for w-coast as we don´t want war there, just the $$

Questions: did we decide on a IW city or if/where we build the Staue of Lib?
What about the island in the SW of the continent? I guess I´ll send the single privateer form the west continent to explore until a backup privateer is built.
Shall we still wait to trade for sci meth (reveals oil, enables physics->GS / comm->great spy)?
GS or GM first (7turns vs. 8turns); I could choose via MM. GM is needed for Sid´s sushi (medicine), GS for bulping physics after trading for sci meth

Long term: Maintain sea superiority to be able bring down the AIs eco if neccessary. Go for Space race or go for Inf or later on tanks to get the rest of the eastern continent after Ramesses is dealt with?

Good thing: Issy is annoyed with S-man. I hope the clash will come which leaves us maybe not disturbed when we deal with Ramesses...

I will play tomorrow afternoon until we have the Great person. So if there is valuable input around please post until then.

Mounted units: We have the tech lead, so quick units are important. Additionally, I saw a lot of AI-catapults.

Sushi: porperly (selectively) used, it is very strong, so we should use the next GM for it.
The boost in food will allow more GPs in the two GP farms and more production in the production centers via workshops (and the rapid growth of the northern iron city)

IronWorks: I think the natural choice would be Edrine.

SoL: We have to focus here. Either we want a war OR we build wonders.
I think we have decided for war now, so current wonder-plans should be postboned, at least my opinion.

Ships: don't leave the west coast naked, strengthen the privateer-fleet there so that we know when someone sneaks up on us while we are busy in the east. Especially, try to investigate Gilga's and Izzy's harbour cities.

What I see in the future: Infantry (only 1 tech away!), destroyers and tanks :D

So, I played my turns as we discussed. I hope I didn´t make too many mistakes as my CIV play got rusty over the last months.

0. Wdrine is set for levee, I MM Dehli to get the GM first. Caravel is moved to investigate the little island and take up the spy from Ankara to move to the W continent; Healer chariot is moved to join the army

1. Istanbul Cav-Cav, Ankara Spy-Priv
Brennus is now vassal of S-man

2. The small island has coal on it
Question found city despite invading Ramesses or do we ignore it?

3. S-man asks us to cancel deals with Izzy- of course not

4. Istanbul: cav-galleon
bombay another privateer - I feel we should annoy S-man a little more
S-man declares on Izzy and asks if we join - nep
So we might be left alone with Ramesses

5. S-man captures Salamanca
Istanbul Galleon-Privateer -> we don´t want to forget Gilgamesh

6. Bursa: levee-cannon

7. GM is here!
V...: Bank->market (unhappyness)
Ankara: levee (then Wallstreet)

My thoughts:
I think we start the war now as S-man is busy. 6 Galleons=18 units in the first rush, this should be imo enough to take the coal city and march to Thebes; Memphis will be attacked later (is cut off from the land way)
Move then some privateers to S-man and some Eastwards to get superiority in the Egyptioan bay east of Thebes.

Tech: 2 turns to RR, then Assembly line?
trade for Sci Meth or not?

I think when we have Thebes, the coal city and memphis (or we raze it) we have to asses how much units we have left / how big WW is and then decide if we go for domination or space race
