MSMD: How to Create a Mod (video demo)

Um, what do you want to do?
But in general, yes.
When i create new buttons for technologies, buildings or something else, i google the item and take one of the better photos or images from there, resize it, save it as .dds and use it as button.

I was hoping to save the art file for my new civilization as a bitmap image, both banner and flag on paint because I don't have photoshop.:D
And what do you mean by google?

Also, can you use different sound files instead of mp3 files?:band:

You can use this programm here to save your .bmps as .dds files.
There's not really much more to do then this.

And what do you mean by google?

You do not want to say that you don't know google, do you ?

Also, can you use different sound files instead of mp3 files?:band:

Why should you?
I don't know, but convertign to mp3 is not really difficult.

I've done everything that the
ColbertNation video says to add audio to Civ4, but when I try it out it didn't work Help!!!

I've saved the file in the sounds, diplomacy folder, it has been properly defined, and when does the musicpeace diplomacy music play?

Sweet, I finally got it! :)

What program do you need to install in order to edit/add NIF or KFM files(a.k.a- Adobe photoshop, notepad ++, word, etc)?

What are they(a.k.a-picture, text, animation, script, etc)?

I just want to animate my leader when I get photoshop.:D:lol::mischief:

What is the use of python editing?

How do you add a unique building?

First think, then write. One post would have been enough.

You need Blender and nearly everything what is mentioned here in the middle (not for Maya and 3Dsmax).

A texteditor. Like notepad or wordpad.

You mean for what you can use python?
As a new modder, you yourself can't do many things. Nearly everything needed can be done in XML.
Look around in the area of mod components to see what can be done with python.
Mostly small things and interface changes.

So I've been following this website for a while, I've usually been able to find the answers to my questions so there wasn't really a need to sign up. Anyway I signed up, I want to get into modding. Here's my problem

I've watched the first video on How to make a Mod, a million times, when I go to open the game it says

"Mods/modname is an invalid mod directory, ignoring"

I've watched the video a million times now, pausing it after every step doing everything it says and I can't figure out why I'm getting this error. I thought maybe its because I'm using Windows 7. I don't know...

Can anyone help me with this?

Well I've been rough drafting some ideas for a Star Wars mod I'd like to do once I know enough about modding. I've been calling it Return of the Mod.

I did what the video said, opened a new folder in the MODS folder. There;s the location:

C:\Users\Aly\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\MODS\Return of the Mod

I did the step that said to go in and change the properties, so now it looks like this:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Civilization4.exe" mod=/ReturnoftheMod

By the way, I don't really know whats up with the (X86) thing. When I was going through to add the short cut I have the file normal, and another one with the 86 thing.

First thing:
No mods should go into My Documents.
You should put your mod to the same place where the default civilization mods are.

Second thing:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Civilization4.exe" is the standard civ installation path on a Vista machine.
Your path might differ. Look at your normal civ shortcut to find out, what you put in there.
Or just ignore it and use this tool here. Way better than a shortcut.

I need help getting a mod started. The video runs faster than I can pull up the window to follow it. It seems to run a few times then the link stop working so I'm unable to run it enoudh time to get the instruction. I'm not a computer whiz by any stretch of the imagination. (Computers for Dummies here nearly.)

When I try to create a short cut to the .exe file it doesn't bring up to shortcut Wizard box instead it creat a shortcut to the new mod file.
