[MULT] Pitboss Worldbuilding Challenge

Still not figuring it out. I set up the left side of the pitboss turn notifications, not really sure what to do on the right side, but I tried filling that out in a few different configurations and that didn't improve anything. If that's just a turn notification thing though, that shouldn't be the problem though, right?

Then I go to multiplayer, pitboss, internet, type in the IP address listed above and pressed enter. Then it says there is an error connecting. Anything else I need to be doing?

I think the issue is on sillsworth's end. I can't get on the server using the IP either.

I can't join either. :dunno:

Btw, are you sure you should put your IP address in the thread? That way, I guess anyone could join this game.

Okay UPDATE:
I lost power in my house yesterday. So that helped.
Google Chrome stopped working when the power went back on. Weird.
I set up the server and everything thanks to your guy's suggestions, but it's forcing me to become an Observer. But I don't want to be an Observer! I gotta play with you guys!
Arexander is using his brother's computer to set up a dummy dedicated host, so that way everyone can play and the dummy computer can work as an Observer.
Crap. Did not see this coming.
Also, Mecca keeps spawning in this one jungle spot. Haha best of luck.
If Arexander could post his progress as this process goes on, I'm sure we will be able to start soon enough. Thank you all.

Alright, downloading the SDK as we speak, the map has been downloaded and I'll test the server soon enough. Will edit this post as things develop.

[Edit] Can't connect to the server through internet, but LAN works fine. My father said it's because the firewall he has setup at a dedicated computer is blocking it, so he must adjust it and will do so shortly. I'll update as things advance.

I'd advise we get a social group set up for this. That will allow us to exchange the IP for the server more "safely".
Anyway, hopefully this can be gotten underway!

Posted a reply instead of editing as I have something important.

It seems I can't host it either as my father as an IT engineer has setup an external firewall, housed in its own computer, which currently blocks server from the internet. I can join the server on my brother's computer through LAN but not through the net, which means you can't either. This was tested with cpm. In other words, someone else has to get a dedicated server up and running on a different computer than the one they're playing on, or we need to get someone who doesn't play to run the server for us. Or we wait for an indeterminate time for my father to fix our firewall so I can host it.

What are your opinions?

HI there! was hoping to play in this game, because it looks amazing, but I'm obviously too late because it seems veeery full. Is there any way to spectate?

We're not full yet. I think two more spots are open if people are willing to join, but I'd have to get a confirmation from sillsworth first. So hold steady and you might just get in!

Um, sillsworth, are you sure you're setting the game up right? I've run a fast test with a Pitboss server and it's not forcing me to play as an Observer.
EDIT: Oh, and @Conk - you should be able to join! I'm pretty sure we've still got some space in the game.
EDIT 2: Scratch all that; I'm an idiot.

All right, here's the deal. It is indeed impossible to run both a Pitboss server and a client from the same computer, unless the server is launched from within Civ. So, that means either a) we have to wait and see if Arexander can get his firewall issue resolved, b) sillsworth leaves his game (and hence the server) running 24/7, or c) someone else hosts the multiplayer match. Or we just all have to meet online at the same time, which is probably extremely unlikely.

hmm, this is weird. So you can't host a game and play in it at the same time? I could probably host if you really wanted me too and we don't have another option. Kind of annoying, but you've now gotten me to start thinking of ways I could play as a god in your world and still participate while being an observer, so that would also be pretty fun. I always do like playing Super Mario Wii U as the gamepad. :)

I think you'll be able to get in. Welcome to the forums, btw!

Maybe we'll get this working somehow.

UPDATE: Welcome Conk, you're happy to join. Pick a civ and be sure to have the time and dedication to play through this fully, worldbuilding and all.
Perhaps we can find someone to host it, but not play it. But I'll put my money on Arexander, for now it is our best bet I feel like. Sorry, Arex. Didn't mean to throw you into this.

Thanks for posting that, cpm, I forgot to do so.

Again, I want to emphasize, that waiting for me is the option you want to choose if nothing else works. Why? Because things are very complicated with my firewall. To put it short and simple, my father, who is an IT engineer, has setup a external firewall to our internet connection into a separate computer. That firewall, is messing up my servers and ports, so I can't host the game without my father making modifications to that external firewall. And to make matters worse, we don't know for sure what to change, where it is, or how we're going to change it. And we don't have a lot of time on our hands either.

Here's the deal: You try to get either someone from the players or from any other willing friend/forum-member/someone to host the game or try to figure out another way, while I and my father try to fix our issues. And fixing our issues just might take a week, maybe more. We don't know.

Thank you for your faith in me, sillsworth, but unfortunately my issues are too big for me to effectively host the game anytime soon.

I may be able to install Civ and the subsequent expansions on a Mac brought from work close by, and then host it on that. Again, this might cause problems like it did with Arexander due to the nature of the IP. I'll look into it as an alternative.
Thank you Arexander so much for attempting this, we shall overcome.

If you can install Civ on another computer and host a game there, sillsworth, we should be able to get the game underway. The only issue will be whether or not you can join.
