[MULT] Pitboss Worldbuilding Challenge

Alright, so I think i'll choose Greece if nobody has taken it yet.

I've looked through this entire thread now, as well. I agree with everything, and cant wait to begin.

Okay, uh, crap.

I have installed and run Civ V on my new Mac, which only causes the game to crash once the opening video is completed. Bus error. I only have that other desktop, I won't be able to run it. Might there be a fan or a player who would be willing to host (if you're playing with us, and you only have one computer, don't host it, you should play with us.)
Anyone? Anyone at all?

Have you checked in the Mac and/or Tech Support forums for help, sillsworth? I haven't the slightest clue if there's a way to resolve that crash, but if there is it'd be located there.
Otherwise, I'm not sure how we're going to get this underway; I can't host the game (without my computer melting, at least) and I don't know who else could.

From what I'm digging up, you'll probably want to a) validate your cache and, if that doesn't work, b) try reinstalling the game. I'll keep looking and see if I can find anything else; however, what exactly is the error?

Out of curiosity, I went into the host a pitboss game screen. There weren't any problems and it showed me as a player. However, I'm setting up a new computer (a Mac) very soon, probably tomorrow. If it works on that, I could host it.

You can host the game as a player too, but this requires you (as a host) to keep the game open 24/7 for others to play too, because if you close the the game, the server goes down. That's why we have been trying to get someone to host the game as a dedicated server on a separate computer, so we can leave that computer on 24/7 and still do whatever we want to do on our own computers.

The SDK needed to host a dedicated server are not available on the Mac. If, however, you are able to get this Mac up and running, try to download Civ V (and subsequent expansions) to play on as you (might) be able to host the game on your other, non-Mac computer.

Okay, I'm going to make a suggestion here. Is there any chance of someone hosting the pitboss server from in-game for a couple hours every day, during which time we can all hop on and play our turn(s)? It'd be far from ideal (finding a time frame that will work for everyone, especially as we have people in both Europe and America, could be a pain), but it would at least get the game underway until we can make better arrangements. A thought, anyway.

Long term Civfanatics lurker...this looks like the coolest project I have seen for Civilization 5. I have never played a pitboss game, but if possible (seeing as how it doesn't look like it has taken off yet) I would enjoy joining a long-term game like this.

I have played Civilization since Civ 3, favorite so far has been Civ 4 (with Fall From Heaven 2). I currently play on Emperor difficulty in Civ 5 and enjoy a mixed peaceful/warlike playstyle. I have some experience worldbuilding with over more than a decade of role playing games like D&D.

I am not a professional writer but I have taken writing intensive classes in English, World Politics, Religion, History, etc.

As far as which Civ if I were to join...maybe Korea? If No DLC, Mayans would be good.

Well, I believe you can still join, @kobo1d! I'm sure we'd be happy to have another player (actually, that'd be ideal; it'll mean we have 12 players on a Huge map.)
However, you may be waiting for a while; we're still having some technical issues in getting this launched.

Have the group considered switching to Giant Multiplayer Robot rather than Pitboss?

I haven't heard anyone mention Giant Multiplayer Robot. But a cursory look at their website seems promising. I'll look into it further.

I've created an account with GMR (at http://multiplayerrobot.com/), but I can't really figure out much about how it works unless we get a game going. If anyone's willing to test with me, make an account there and then find the game called NIGBOAST Test.

*facepalm*

I don't know why I didn't think about using GMR. I've played two games on that before! I'll come do the test.

I joined the game. Btw, there's a video tutorial on the homepage of the site there.
