Multiplayer Stability Thread

I think he meant that you do not need to wait for someone to make a modpack with the newest version and you can make your own. Moreover, most people add other extra mods in their modpacks and you may not like the extra mods (or maybe you will want to add some on your own in the future).
 
I heard there was an issue with saving games in multiplayer - i.e. it didn't work. Has this been fixed yet?
 
Didn't know there were issue with saving, we did a lot with my friend to test multi-stability last couple of day.
Can't tell, if it is, it's not that obvious.

(by the way, I bring back my last question which was flooded by modpack answer : )

Merci Cat du fromage for your answer :) When you say Chill Barbs is a maximum...it does desync-freeze often or just rarely ?

Any other tips for increasing Multiplayer stability at this point, and which doesn't matter anymore ? (Particulary with big modpack like Magnus Mutatio one's ?)
We did other testing last night by checking the local file (steam) and the "creating game with only IA, save and then bring buddy on lobby on the saved T1 game" trick with no barbs & no events, but we experience twice a big desync freeze each time he pass through Classical Era. (and he is the first to pass it, because he rushing it more or less), that's a known issue out there ?

We gonna try with the mid-dec Magnus Mutatio modpack next time...
 
Sorry didn't open the "spoiler" ^^', So barb Like AI civ are the first "generator" of desync, (desync still occure though) BUT all mod that use lots of LUA cause dysinc too, we had a lot of issue in late game when not only the desync become more and more frequent but they became also LOOOONNNGER(game making lots of calculations i guess), and to finish/kill the chicken... CRASH began to occure.... so we gave up the game.

From our recent tests:

- disable event... (they became too frequent in late game and cause BIG performance issues)
-chill barbs MAX(if you set normal or raging, early to mid will be desyncLAND) , barb in late game are not an issue since they are a dead species^^
-IF you set lots of AI... KILL THEM BEFORE LATE GAME!
-avoid mods with lot's of LUA especially those containing heavy calculation.

We didn't play in the two last version, since there was a bug, who doen't allow 6 players to play together^^' i will try tonight the new version, hope it's FIXED!

It auto-saves every turn. You can save at will to the steam cloud, but you don't really need to save unless you are in multiple games.
 
Our last test with Magnus Mutatio Modpack (15th Jan) was an epic failure : no barbs, no event, 2 humans players and 4 IA..
Quick speed setup.
We try with and without the "start a game with full AI and 2nd human join in" trick.

We get stuck (not just desync, big freeze with crash of the host) around T24-25ish consistently. (migth be again the "1st player pass Classical era" thing)

Magnus Mutatio is probably not helping here, but we don't really want to fall back to "vanilla Vox Populi"... for now. We might be forced to.
 
Magnus mutatio use too much mods with heavy LUA, in our games with 6 players and 4 AI it's quite fine, we got some desinyc but no more crash, modpack (VP EUI, World wonder expend, more unique component, prussia)

with chill barbarians because we are mad ;)

BUT since the AI use more agressiv i think it might be the guilty one, they do much more troops wich is a big source of calculation.

Hey Cat-du-fromage, could you tell me which version your modpack is based on? Me and my group are playing 5-20 (yes, super old...), because nothing else worked - even without barbs and ruins :(

Mine and Magnus's are both up to date and I've tested both quite successfully (into the information era) in a 2-player large multi-player game with the normal amount of AI for the map-size, with barbarians active. There are occasional resynchs but they are quite short and relatively infrequent.

I tested the Cat-du-fromage modpack, which is a (very) light Magnus modpack, based on the same last version of VP...but it's still almost unplayable early with chill barbs (T22), and no barbs we went to turn 50 (quick 4 IA) with no desync, but from turn 50 we got almost 1 turn for 2 turns played a big desync (no-host player need to quit the game and let IA play his turn).

I'm start to think that might be linked to something else than modpack we use...that's a silly idea ?

it is the 2-12-3 EUI (last version released), we are in turn 225+ and we only encounter like 2-3 desync

EDIT: Civ5 is a CPU DEVOURER (using 80% of a I7 7800)! maybe it's your processor that can't follow^^'

I never settle myself a modpack (don't know how to do it !), I always pick some on the repository topic.

For the lastest, we tried Magnus Mutatio alone (various version : december, january), with a lot a favorable settings (low IA count, no barbs no event) then the Cat-du-fromage one's above which is lighter and contain the minimum we need.
But we are in trouble since the multi-instable version of VP on may 2018 if I remember correctly, and we never found a stable version since. (espacially when we tried to found a VP+4uc+EUI modpacks)
We didn't have any trouble with BNW vanilla and I had a terrible computer at this time ! (But we didn't try since a while tbh ^^)

But we gonna try a fresh reinstall of the game for both of us to clear an hypothetic poor or messy installation for one of us.
We still have to find a way to "clear the cache", for the steam version it doesn't seem that obvious the way we are supposed to do it after some research.
