An Emerging Superpower?

The formation of the UUC-led Free Realms Alliance has tied several states around the world together in a pursuit of worldwide socialism and democracy. Besides surging the economies of its members by rapidly tearing down trade barriers, it also boasts coordinated foreign policy and military efforts by its members. Analysts believe that over time, the FRA could give rise to the first post-Cataclysmic superpower as the benefits of the alliance gradually accrue to the UUC.

Fall of Guangdong

With the occupation of Hainan, the Guangdong Socialist Party has been driven into exile, and the King of China has formally declared the annexation and full reunification of all China under the suzerainty of China and the High Kingdom.

King Qiaozhi has alleviated concerns about Taiwan (currently an integral state of the FRCN) by stating that Taiwan is not part of China, and in fact, has never been part of China. Taiwan was a state with a proud independent tradition occupied by Chinese capitalists and claimed by Chinese communists. The divinely-guided Chinese monarchy, on the other hand, recognizes the island’s sovereignty and its right to be a constituent member of a federation.

Autocracy In Retreat?

Extensive protests in Mexico have stretched the state repressive organs to the breaking point. The Emperor has been forced to release many political prisoners and disband many oversight bodies that diluted Mexican federalism. The government in Fenix continues to claim Zapatista territory as integral components of Mexico, but with a rollback of security capabilities, the government is in far less of a position to fight a war over it.

The weakening of Mexican autocracy, juxtaposed with the formation of the FRA, has many believing a new age of democracy may soon come to the world as the UUC and FRCN each expand their influence.

Ethiopia Flexes Its Military Might

In the span of days, Ethiopia’s military stormed the Darfur Confederation before immediately annexing it.

To the surprise of many observers, most Darfuri welcomed the Imperial forces, and the region has quickly stabilized under its new Governor. Reports suggest that perhaps the weak autocracy previously in place had become increasingly repressive as well as corrupt, no longer investing much in its citizens’ quality of life; the abundance of social services offered by Ethiopia and its Emperor is an immediate improvement.

Yousai Nippon

A massive array of fortifications has sprung up in Japan, as has a large militia presence. The government of the Emperor Chikara has announced that their “Yousai” project has been a massive success, and Japan is now extremely well-defended.

Analysts note this is a natural consequence of recent government shifts: the Emperor recently appointed a new Prime Minister. The new PM has dialed back rhetoric about conquering the Korean-occupied islands of the archipelago, and has instead stressed the need for Japan to find a “third way.” The term “third way” refers to how Japan has no natural allies in its region and so could not seek alliances for security, but how Japan also cannot simply abandon its claim to the islands. The Yousai Project is seen as the culmination of the Third Way: if Japan cannot negotiate nor use aggression to resolve the Islands dispute, it can drastically improve its defensive capabilities so that whoever starts a war first will lose.

Auto(cracy)lysis

4 years ago, the Romanian Foreign Ministry published an article about an “autocratic peace,” noting the peace between autocratic regimes and their superior performance. Tellingly, the power of the FRCN and UUC was dismissed as simply being a consequence of alliances and not a sign of any inherent capabilities.

How ironic that, in truth, autocracy’s benefits are being discovered as incidental. The “autocratic” peace theory has been disproven: the Ethiopians recently destroyed their autocratic brethren in Darfur, as did the Chinese in Guangdong.

In terms of performance, 34 of the world’s 74 states are autocracies – 46 percent. 44% of the world’s GDP and 50.6 percent of its population comes from those same states. The immediate takeaway from these statistics is that democratic citizens should have more income and a higher quality on life on average.

Here are the top 18 states by HDI performance:

Of these states, 10 of the 18 are democracies, with a mean HDI of 0.749, compared to autocracies’ 0.747. This appears statistically insignificant, but it does disprove the Romanian assertion that autocracy will lead to a higher quality of life for citizens. Nonetheless, there is some mild support for the hypothesis that it is in fact democracies that will provide for the highest quality of life.

In terms of relevance, the fall of the Mexican autocracy makes continental North America entirely democratic except for the Vandread Empire. The formation of the Free Realms Alliance has bolstered the economic capabilities of democracies far more than the typical colonial campaign has for autocracies. With autocrats continuing to practice diplomatic isolation as the FRCN and UUC create gradually larger, global networks of alliances, democracy appears to be the direction the world as a whole is heading.

Autocracy, meanwhile, continues to eat itself.

Pre-Cataclysmic Journal Found!

While the Korean Dictator is away in Thailand giving a frank interview in the context of that country’s robust political liberties, a remarkably intact (only having some light singing) journal has been found in the ruins of Seoul. Based on the dates listed within, it predates the Cataclysm by days, even hours in its last entries.

Many theories have been put forth about the exact cause of global socioeconomic and political collapse generations ago, but the journal seems to point to the most concrete one yet: meteor showers. It appears that in the weeks preceding the Cataclysm, a series of 22 meteors broke through the Earth’s atmosphere and managed to make contact with the ground. While small enough to avoid destroying the Earth outright, they did nonetheless appear to generate sufficient heat and electromagnetic energy that much of the world was ravaged.

The journal’s final pages describe series of events that seem remarkable: abrupt changes in foreign policy, dramatic shifts in territory, discovery of new species, innumerable political leaders coming to power with almost no prior experience or backing. Of course, it is this remarkable sequence of events that has researchers doubting the journal.

Besides, it’s from the UDPRK, of course it’s going to be a little exaggerated.

Ethiopia invites Central Africa and Uganda to a summit to discuss an alliance that will secure the sovereignty and security of Africa. This military alliance shall be known as the Central African Treaty Organization - CATO.

Central Africa builds a Supply Center in Central Africa.

The Papal States moves to form a trilateral defensive alliance with Romania and Sicily. The Italo-Romanian Alliance (IRA) will preserve Eastern Mediterranean peace, in light of the FRA's expansion and concerned about the sovereignty of autocratic states, proposes that the Alexandria Pact and Papal-Romanian Alliance form a defense pact of their own, the International Sovereignty Alliance (ISA); this alliance would not annul the underlying alliances of its members, but build upon them an alliance that promotes defense and the ability of states to select their own regime type. Democracies would be welcome to join.

However, he notices the logistical problems of the coalition effort, namely, that all that impressive naval and air firepower is going to take some time to really be of use in pushing inland.

While His Imperial Majesty has no interest in Polish land, he does have an interest in keeping promises to his allies. Romania's allies in The Hetmanate are quite interested in reclaiming the part of old Ukraine currently under Polish occupation. Between Romania and the Clans' diplomats, it would certainly be possible to convince them to bring their armies to bear against Poland. Romania's air wings are within striking distance of most Polish territory, and the Emperor could pledge their Support in exchange for allowing Ukraine to retake its rightful territory in the final settlement.

If lasting peace is the goal of the FRA, it stands to reason that Poland should have its military and industrial capabilities reduced. What is more, given Karmazyn's insane notion that the Baltics are naturally Polish territory, it is questionable that the Poles are more of a majority in their portion of Ukraine than the Ukrainian people."

Warchief Bula Paflok ro Miot and the Clan Assembly has had a meditative meeting on the offers of military co-operation in bringing a end to the Baltic War, to enshrine the demise of President Karmazyn's campaign of aggression against the Baltic League. We listen and read the offers of the Bavarian and Romanian governments on purpose of taking out the Polish military. We are happy on the potential consideration of potential power to help bring down Karmazyn's aggressive policies. The United Uruk Clans have deeply considered the offer and see interest in it.

The F.R.A. was forged to protect realms from aggression and oppression. Our end interest is to enlighten Poland away from the autocratic executive ambitions of President Karmazyn, along of course with ensuring the end of his regime's invasions of our comrades in the Baltic League. If the eastern territories be Ukrainian it will be the dictation of the peoples rather than either the U.C.C. or Romania but this will be part of a major set of policies to ensure the salvation of Poland and bringing it into the fold, with Karmazyn bought before a international court to answer for his crimes of warmongering. We want this to end in honor.

We will hold the line and offer our two actions:

Action One: Request Polish Surrender

We speak to the government of Poland beyond that of the executive President Karmazyn.

Does not the Polish authorities see the situation they are in? By invading the Baltic League they have bought their glorious power to shame and now their potential as a power has been reduced, in addition to their northern lands now under occupation from we and our allies. Now Bavaria, Romania and Ukraine are making visions of partition: the Warchief feels that our refusal may see them invade anyway in a grab for land.

Peace requires a end to this war and for Poland to surrender to the Baltic, Uruk, Saxon-Brandenburgian and Iberian alliance. We ask Poland and not Karmazyn as we feel he is... a liability to peace.

The surrender will require the following terms:

1. Poland will hand Karmazyn over so he can face trial in a international court on his warmongering against the Baltic League.
2. Poland is to make payment to the Baltic League to heal for damages made.
3. Poland will accept a Uruk protection pact (AKA become a client), which will include consolidating Polish democracy so they will not be taken for a ride by a aggressive executive like Karmazyn. We are open to revisit the terms.
4. Demilitarized the Polish-Baltic frontier zones for 5 years to keep both parties from aggression: a pact of non-aggression will be set.

We advise Poland to consider this as the alternative would be for them to face a Bavarian-Romanian-Ukrainian interference, which we dread will not be done in honor and will be set to the determent of the to be conquered peoples. We came to protect the Baltic League from Polish aggression, not to slice Poland up for authoritarian aggression. Keep in mind our protection would Poland to build itself, although

We hope this will ease the Baltic League, as we dread a Bavarian-Romanian competition would eventually lead to threats to the League. Poland must be not the launch board for imperial ambitions.

We are prepared to pay for any needs for Saxony-Brandenburg and Iberia.

In the end: listen not to arbitrary aggression of your Karmazyn and instead consider the well-being of your peoples. Submit to peace: remember one can rise after kneeling, while we dread Romania and Bavaria may strive to chain you down. We will guard you from them, after ensuring you do not threaten the Baltic League and other friends of Uruktok.

Action Two: Resurrect and Empower International Courts System

To ensure the war codes of the F.R.A. can be enforced and that rights are guaranteed we are going to require the reformation of a international courts system to enshrine a legal means to protect peace, prosperity and the peoples of this planet. We will enshrine the International Courts to formation for the following edicts of glory:

1. Enshrine international laws protection peoples from oppressive harms. This will also cover NGOs. The aim is to guarantee the prime principles of rights of persons. Rights will include protecting peoples under oppression due to protective characteristics and will also cover elements of the laws of war as the massacring of populations are to be dealt with.
2. Enforce the laws of war: war crimes will be dealt with.
3. To serve as a tribunal mediator between realms on disputes of international legality and to have the authority to finalize decisions on matters in a diplomatic way.
4. Enable border disputes and other matters of confrontation to be settled through the table rather than the battlefield. If there be failure and war erupts the tribunal can be used to settle out the zones of confrontation so that it can be kept in honor and maintain towards the laws of war. Of course more settled alternatives, like making the leaders fight each other directly with the soldiers in the audience, are desirable in the eyes of Uruktok.
5. For the F.R.A the courts can serve as a means to test the legality of any militaristic activity conducted by the alliance, as to ensure we follow our own instructions and to enable the safeguards in waging conflict to protect populaces from injustice. This also means the F.R.A. and it members will be accountable.

Additional considerations can be bought up by others if need be.

Saxony-Brandenburg, due to being outside the F.R.A, may make a good candidate to host the courts, although the Swizz would also make potential hosts or we can have multiple hosts if need be. Whatever the host our dream remains to enshrine the vision once more.

While many in the FRCN government are supportive of the idea of military and economic ties to an alliance on the other side of the globe, enough officials raise anxieties about getting tangled in a largely European organization, democratic orientation or not, that the measure does not get far.

The parliament closes ranks around Karmazyn with incredible speed, noting Poland’s local superiority and ability to keep the Clans’ Imperial forces from advancing much further inland. The Speaker of the Parliament disputes the idea they need protection Romania, Ukraine and Bavaria when the UUC will never coordinate with them lest it compromise its own values of self-determination and make the FRA look like a hypocritical body.

Not long after parliamentary leaders deny the UUC’s request, it begins rapidly expelling all the members of parliament who entertained the proposal. The rump Parliament almost immediately grants Karmazyn broad emergency powers to guarantee Polish victory in the war. The next Polish election is postponed for the safety of the Polish people and to conserve resources. Various opposition members are arrested due to being implicated in plots to undermine the nation.

On an unrelated matter, rumors circulate that in Rome, His Holiness was heard muttering the Lord’s name in vain upon hearing of the news, followed by, “All this, because no one would agree to a referendum.”

The measure seems to collapse under the vague terms of its mandate: what are these laws? Who determines them and how are they amended? Do they apply to only members, or to the entire world?

We may have overestimated the strength of Polish legislation in keeping the executive in accordance.

The U.U.C. will bare the blunt of what will come. Nevertheless while they are entrenched so are we and we are a position to hold the line too. We will prepare for a long game and the glory will belong to the warriors of we and our allies. Our mission has upgraded to free Poland from the regime of the despotic Karmazyn. We just hope this... escalation does not spring into a full out continental or intercontinental conflict. Our prime focus is to contain the forces under Karmazyn's command and to ensure justice can be ensured, so to ensure peace & prosperity.

No moves are made, as neither side has the advantage on the offensive.

The Congo War



The Soviet premier authorizes another deadly charge to bring the war to a quick conclusion; by tying down the Kongolese air force in the northeast, it will be possible for Soviet and Zambian forces to occupy the rest of the Kongo and rob the Kongolese military of any supplies.

To the Soviets’ surprise, the deadly charge does not materialize with all the high casualties – military and civilian – it would have incurred. They are barely into the Northeastern Congo before receiving word a Ugandan-Ethiopian force has begun rapidly advancing into the area. The Soviets withdraw, not in any position to contest the region.

The other offensives are a success. The Kongolese government flees into exile for the most part, though the Kongolese Premier is captured and sentenced to life imprisonment, and the Soviet Union annexes the Kongolese territories it has occupied.

Vandread Invasion of Quebec



With the UUC-FRA forces heavily concentrated in Poland and the Baltic, the Vandread Empire finally makes a move in Quebec.

Prior to the attack, the military is rocked by sabotage and assassinations, disrupting the Quebecois military’s ability to coordinate a defense; New England falls quickly as a result.

The Romanian Empire launches an invasion of Slovakia moments after a formal declaration of war. The Romanian military almost effortlessly crushes the Slovak military, and the country is quickly annexed. Bavarian officials report that they received no calls for help from the Slovaks, suggesting the Romanians had sabotaged the Slovakian defense infrastructure immediately prior to invasion; regardless, Bavarian forces were unable to offer support before the country was overrun.

The Romanian Emperor, meanwhile, is quick to address his new subjects, pointing out the inefficiencies of the rigged electoral system the country previously operated under, and welcomes the Slovaks as a community of the greater Southeastern European nation.

No the empire means kidnapping. There is a massive difference between going through the legal emigration process, and sneaking into another country and dragging people out in the middle of the night. The empire has no issues with citizens moving wherever they feel they will be able to find prosperity, but we do have issue with breaking of our laws and sneaking past our borders to commit subversive acts against our state..
