Comment of the Holy See on the Romnesian War
-
The Holy See is glad that Romnesia and the Imperium of Mann are desirous of peace, especially now that it appears the war is spreading beyond West Africa and into South America and Eastern Europe. As such the Holy See would urge all parties to accept a peace and come to an amicable co-existence, particularly now that Romnesia is willing to cease its attempts to illegally blockade terra nullius territory in West Africa.
However on the matter of Romney's possible conversion to the One True Faith, considering the circumstances the Holy See naturally has doubts as to whether Romney truly, genuinely and forthrightly intends to convert in good faith. As such the Holy See suggests the following two terms in addition to the terms proposed by the Imperium of Mann, which we believe will ensure a more lasting compact between all parties involved, including considering the intended conversion, the Holy See.
Term VI: Romnesia recognises the Holy Sees payment of Romnesian debt to Algeria as equivalent to direct payments to Romnesia, and lifts the embargo against it and all other associated parties and vice versa.
Term VII: All parties involved in a peace with Romnesia agree to mutual NAP's, in order to ensure a more lasting peace, with Romnesia in addition signing a NAP with the Holy See in lieu of Romnesia's conversion.
Term six would ensure that the correct paradigm for a newfound relationship between the Holy See and Romnesia is established, particularly as aforementioned in light of its generosity in assisting in Romnesia's debt situation despite Romnesia's previous hostility to the Holy See. The lifting of the general embargo's furthermore would also be of benefit to all involved, as it would open up trade after the war and help with the recovery of Romnesia from the conflict.
Term seven would simply ensure a natural commitment of all parties to remain in peaceful relations with eachother, encouraging a renewal of trade and economic exchange, and ensuring that third parties can have some assurance that war will not break out again a couple of years down the line. Romnesia signing an NAP with the Holy See in addition to this, as mentioned, would simply be another sign of Romney's genuine conversion and its commitment to peace in light of previous hostilities.
Should these two terms be met in addition to the terms proposed by the Imperium of Mann, then the Holy See would be willing to accept the conversion of Romney as genuine, and would wholeheartedly support the peace terms offered by the Imperium. If not, then lacking these two suggestions we would consider it fundamentally lacking in that it overly punished Romnesia for its actions in blockading west africa without on the other hand establishing correct conditions to ensure future prosperity, and a lasting peace.
