Multipolarity III - Game Thread

What ever happens we of the Imperium will aid our allies if called, just as our allies would aid the Imperium if it was attacked. We help each other. Glory to the holy way!

Peace in South Africa

NCHEKWUBE: A bloody power struggle was averted thanks to the tireless effort of Guinea's most prominent diplomat, Walther Hewel. The so-called "Hope Summit" concluded with Zimbabwe and Mozambique agreeing to a cessation of hostilities.

The roundtable negotiations included representatives from Guinea, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Namibia. While Namibia's previous public statements cast doubt on its willingness to compromise, Zimbabwe managed to sway it away from its traditional opposition to a two-state solution by agreeing to an annual export quota that would refund Mozambican losses. The final agreement recognizes both states along their current borders.

Guinea's Minister of Information Josef Goebbels praised Hewel's initiative in defusing the crisis, citing the summit as "a resounding success for level-headed diplomacy and the promotion of peace in Africa."

Zimbabwe made mention of the potential for a reintegration of both states in the future, but with Namibia openly pursuing annexation of Mozambique, Zimbabwe now looks to be the only country of the two with any hope of an independent future.

Orders lock in 24 hours, my children.

Remember it's a "soft lock" and you can still turn in orders after it, until I finish my coursework for the week.

THE ECONOMIST

International Economic Magazine

Our reporter, Mr. James Fox, has gone to South Africa (SA), a country ravaged by war and dictatorships. However, this country is now becoming an economic powerhouse with huge economic development in a very short time. Mr. James (J) will interview the Finacial Minister of South Africa, Mr. Mehmet (M).

J: Hello Mr. Mehmet.

M: Hello. I am very happy to be here with you and to explain you the SA economy.

J: My first question is how your economy has managed to grow so much over the past 3 years?

M: I have been Finacial Minister in both the Pohamba and Mulhara governments. Mr. Pohamba invited me to become his finacial minister after the elections in Namibia and the introduction of the free market economy. Mr. Mulhara, the current President of South Africa, asked me to remain finacial minister since I had done an amazing work.

But in reality, it is the South African people who can claim the success to this amazing economic miracle. The South African people work very, very long hours and very hard. They have suffered huge hardships in order to recover from the war.

Foreign companies saw that trait of the South African people, and were encouraged by loans given by the Government to support investment in SA economy, and decided to invest into the economy. New factories are created every day, cities are re-build and the SA industry grows very fast.

J: Can you tell me how much your industry, and in general your economy, has grown those past 3 years?

M: It has grown very, very, very much. It's almost an economic miracle. In 2509, when the Blood - Namibian war ended, our Industry was at 12 points and our GDP was 0. Now, in 2511, our industry is at 45 points, and our GDP at 1487. In less than three years our Industry has almost increased by 4 times and you can really see the growth in the economy and the growth of our GDP from 0 to 1487. And we are not over yet. This year, we shall spend 530 billion SA Rubles in the economy. We have the ambition to become the largest economy in the world. And we shall achieve it.

J: But, I suppose, that not everything is good, right?

M: Indeed. Althought our industry has grown, our national income is still small compared to other countries. But I am sure that we can solve this problem. Also, because of the threat of war, for example the Mozambiquen civil war, we have to keep a very, very large standing army that damages a bit our economy and also scares off investors. However, we believe that more foreign investor will come and invest in SA since our government has shown that it can handle crisis in foreign policy with diplomacy. In fact, now more and more foreign investors realize that SA is a very stable country, where their money will pay off.

J: I will now ask you a question that is not purely economical, but it is connected to the economy. Tourism in South Africa. What can attract people to visit South Africa?

M: There are many things that can attract tourist. In Africa, there is the Namibian Desert. In the Capital, there is the National Culture Museum and the National Park. In America, there are very beutyfull cities with huge markets and great beaches.

There is a lot of Tourism in SA lately and we are happy about it, as we want to share our culture with other people.

J: Can you tell us what are your plans for the future and a few last words?

M: Our ambition is to become the largest economy of the world and grow more and more. We believe that economic development can solve other issues, like social issues. We hope that the SA economy will grow even more.

J: Thank you for answering my questions.

M: I thank you.

Edit.

Lock in about 3 hours. Again, it's a soft one.

Pending Annexations

Aden - Somalia
Costa Rica - Woodbury
Granada - Algiers
Guinea - Cameroon
Manx - Egypt
Namibia - Mozambique
New Zealand - Tsingtao
Papal States - Bosnia
Solitude - Greece
Tropico - Venezuela

These of course will change in the event of a coup. When in doubt always have at least one client to get in on the client annexation while it lasts... :p I will probably cease annexation next turn.

Wait, we can annex clients now? What? Do the people annexing other nations get the standard occupation penalties? Or is this crazy?

Unless there are MASSIVE (and I mean MASSIVE) and crippling penalties from client annexations then I am protesting this rule change. It turns clients from something awesome and cool into giant signs that say LAND FOR SALE!!! And I mean half of these clients have been clients for ONE TURN. I say that you should cease client annexation NOW and stop this sorry page in the history of MP III.

I know I sound like a hypocrite here considering the Spammers' Crusade has annexed half of Canada and that I sound like I am trying to get the rules changed in my favour due to the subsequent annexation of Egypt, but I will gladly return the land that has annexed in Canada AND renounce my claims on Egypt if that would stop these client annexations from taking place. I really wouldn't want this to happen even if it did benefit me.

More of Tani's secret mechanics, naturally.

Guinea forms Pan-African Commonwealth

In an effort to promote greater continental stability, the Union of Guinea has partnered with a number of African states in a military co-operative dubbed the Pan-African Commonwealth. The alliance aims to defend against armed aggression and subversive action, incorporating seven countries situated along the 10th Parallel.

The charter describes the purpose of the treaty as "safeguard[ing] the freedom, common heritage and civilization of [member states'] peoples". While the rationale does not describe any specific motivating threat, observers speculate the Commonwealth was formed as a check against Adeni aggression, which has steadily escalated over the past decade.

The new Zimbabwean government has expressed interest in acceding to the organization.

The 13-article treaty is the first of its kind legislated by a leading regional power. Guinea's supreme leader Adolf Hitler describes the pact as embodying "an important departure from traditional master-client relations. [The Pan-African Commonwealth] will usher in a new diplomatic paradigm grounded in reciprocal dialogue and multilateral decision-making."

Uh, guys? Gradual Annexation of clients has been around since MP1, its nothing new. Heck, I've already annexed Easter Island like this, so it's happened before in this one as well.

Not really a "secret" since it's been happening for the past two turns. As a quick look at the maps can attest to.

It's more or less a measure to reduce the number of nations and thus speed things up. While also balancing out the advantage aggressive nations have, given that smaller nations receive more.

But if the world truly desires Russia to reign unopposed...

In that case... the Imperium of Man welcome the people of Egypt into the imperial realm of the Manx! Glory to His Imperial Majesty as we are a true empire!

Oh. But that means that the entire client doesn't get annexed in one turn?

Hmm...I'm happy with that if it's been happening for a while, but the way you worded it made it sound like the clients were going to be completely annexed in one turn, which is pretty silly if you ask me.

Wait, I would like to just have clarification, are all these clients all getting annexed in one turn? And what about me and Canada?

Anything Tani doesn't state upfront in the rules is a "secret".

There's a set number of provinces to be allotted to each suzerain; if you are owed more provinces than your client has, they get annexed. The goal is to reduce the number of states for less number crunching. I shall stop when we are at about 40-50 NPCs.We are at 65.

Players without clients get compensated by other means.

This is automatic?

If not... do I have to set it as part of my orders? If so... should I redo my orders?

It's automatic and is adjusted for the size of the suzerain, hence Manx expanding greatly and Russia expanding only a little.

Provided one has a client at some point in the turn they shall receive the benefit.

We believe that, for security reasons, Zimbabwe should not join this organazation.
