Music of Civ VI

The RnF themes really hit it out of the park. I love how the Mapuche theme chills out a bit in the Industrial era but comes back almost in a celebratory way in the final rendition.

Kind of replicates their history, I guess.

They were a bit subdued in the industrial era but they are on the rise again. :)

Ok, just to let you all know. I've submitted a question to Geoff Knorr about the musical inspirations for the Cree, Mongolia, and Mapuche's themes. :D

I'm actually looking forward to hearing the First Listen for the Zulu themes. I'll probably already be on the plane when that gets uploaded though.

Can anything top the Civ5 Zulu themes though?

Yes. Civ5 Mongolia themes :p
And by "Mongolia" you actually meant "Attila," I believe. :p That rendition of "Li Ling Si Han" justified his presence in the game, even if it's ahistorical nonsense. (The Huns almost certainly had nothing to do with the Xiongnu.)

Actually, I meant Venice for peace and Arabia for war :P

But yeah, Hun themes are also really nice. Mongolian too. And Carthaginian, Byzantine, Ottoman, Inca, French, Arabian, Spanish, Swedish, and much much more :P

The Civ5 themes are a testament to the skills of Geoff Knorr, Michael Curran, Roland Rizzo (who specifically composed Nebby's themes), and Ian Smith (he composed Hiawatha's themes before leaving Firaxis).

I didn't find any of them to be truly horrible. Some might be considered more mediocre than the others, but I still listen to the soundtrack regularly (but not everyday of course :p).

I have playlist that's a music of Civ IV, V and VI diplomacy, lots of fun to listen to. Basically, I pick the best theme for each civ, so I use the Poland War Theme from Civ V for Poland, Khmer Atomic for Civ VI, Portugal Civ IV theme, etc. to make a mix.

Someone on Reddit did some very astute sleuthing to figure out the origins of the Mapuche theme. Linking the original Reddit post so full credit goes to the user, especially since (s)he goes the extra mile to explain the significance of the origins and even details the parts of the theme that line up the song.

I like how the transition from Mapuche to Chilean was deliberate. For some people the Aztec theme sounded Mexican in the Industrial and Atomic versions. Wonder if that was deliberate as well.

I'll be interested in reading what Geoff Knorr has to say about the origins of the Mapuche theme (I'm still waiting for his reply). This Chilean redditor might be right.

The Aztec themes seem to get "Mexican" as the era progresses to me too.

We can always rely on Peaches Lamb to upload Civ6 music. For Civ5 music, it was a Youtuber called Skummelhustler.
I wonder if they are the same person with two channels? Their posting styles seem similar.

I've never really noticed any similarities between the two, but you may be right....

I’m loving this! Now, some Chilean, Bolivian and Peruvian native music, of course, have similar influences and all three countries have had heated debates about their origins and ownership. On a side note, Bolivia has won on many of those debates. :D Carnival is around the corner and we’ll be celebrating music and dance. But I digress.

Having said that, I feel the subtle influences of the exquisite Cueca (Bolivia and Chile contest this one; we do have a richer set of 3 versions which are tremendous two of which I personally know how to dance) and of the beautiful Marinera (although readily recognized as Peruvian, Chile argues its version of the Cueca influenced it) in the Mapuche theme. Regardless, and not taking well founded sides today, I’m loving the Mapuche theme.

Edit: I’m not going to entertain any debates with any of my Chilean and Peruvian friends here. :nono::D
