To be fair, virtually all logographic forms of writing, including both hieroglyphs and hanzi, in practice function on a phonetic basis using the rebus principal.
Same here. I do have to comment that some of GS's later era themes are actually reasonably pleasant, though, which is a surprise. From vanilla, DLC, and R&F I hate about 90% of the Atomic themes...
I noticed that one of the ancient Swedish songs is Herr Mannelig, a medieval ballad. It tells the tale of a knight and a troll, the troll tries to convince the knight to marry her and promises all kinds of gifts in return. The national anthem is also there, though in a less bombastic form compared to civ 5.
Ceddin Deden is among the Ottoman ambient themes.
Sadly, no Un Canadien errant in the Canadian ambient themes. Or El Condor Pasa in the Inca ambient themes (maybe too Peruvian?).

Started playing as the Māori, and I've heard three ambient songs in addition to the main theme. I've included YouTube links to each below.
Main theme: based on the WWI-era love song "Pōkarekare Ana" and the 19th-century haka "Ka mate" (ancient/classical eras also include a longer version).
Ambient themes: I've noticed three so far, with musical and non-musical versions.
"Me He Manu Rere" – a 1920s love song, featured in the First Look Māori video;
"Paikea" – an upbeat hand-action song, based on a 19th-century haka, from the Ngāti Porou tribe;
"Hine E Hine" – an early 20th century lullaby, known to many NZers from TVNZ's "Goodnight Kiwi" video (I also really like this version by José Carreras).
Thanks! It looks like the Ancient themes posted there aren't the actual full Ancient themes per se...Geoff did the same for the Gathering Storm OST, where the ancient themes were more like ambient themes based on the underlying civ themes rather than the actual Ancient theme in its full form (which tends to be around 4-5 minutes long each).
From GS civs i've had Canada, Sweden, Maori, Mali and Hungary in my 2 GS games so far. I can I say I like the Maori music the most so far, it is very nice to listen to.
