I was watching this video playthrough and at around 7m 18s (https://youtu.be/e0ybpi659g4?t=7m18s) I noticed when Victoria popped up for a trade window, the music that played sounded eerily familiar... I'd know the Epitaph of Seikilos anywhere! (If you need a reminder of Civ 5's version, here's our favourite Macedonian https://youtu.be/YEKRE2uamyg?t=1m24s).

Since we know that Scarborough Fair is supposed to be the theme of England, maybe it was mistakenly playing the Greek theme?

Yeah probably a mistake. I fully expect Epitaph to be the theme for Gorgo and Pericles given the time period Epitaph is from. It would be a real surprise if it turned out just to be regular ambient music.

Yeah, I remember that video. It seems to be a bug. Hopefully, Firaxis fixed that.

It seems like they opted to have leader themes for each age rather than any war themes. This despite their claim that Civ VI's music would be the most dynamic ever. So I hope they have something else up their sleeve other than intertwining themes from leaders you meet in game.

Yeah, it seems like war themes are out. I think the composer or Firaxis thought it was too much effort to create both Peaceful and warlike themes for different eras. We're back to a Civ4 approach to the civ music.

I like the age-specific music but do think the war music really added lots of flavor. I'm sad to see them go.

I never got to enjoy war theme music, because it would loop 2 tracks non stop for as long as I remember. During peace (or when that bug wouldn't apply) it would still repeat same stuff way too much. All the music pieces (while some good, some very good, some bad, some crazy annoying) had in common is they were heavy to listen to for a long time.

Era specific changes (or evolution) creates a more reasonable and much better variety IMO. Eras change fast enough (assuming normal speed) to not get annoyed/bored with the music. Well, I THINK that I will enjoy it for much longer than I did in V this way. In the end it's inevitable I'll mute the music altogether and listen to my own anyway.

I finally heard Scythia's theme today in the video where Ed Beach plays Germany. It sounds sort of slow and Middle Eastern sounding. No idea which real life melody it's based on. Possibly on Ossetian music.

Thanks to Reddit user AnFiachraDonn, it seems that Norway's theme is Gjendines Bånlåt (or heavily inspired by it), a lullaby sung by Kaia Gjendine Slålien, a seterjente ("dairymaid") from Lom in Oppland, which was written down by Edvard Grieg when he met her at the farm where she lived. So, Norway has gotten a theme with its origins far off from the Viking Age.

Spain's theme is "Spanish Romance" or "Spanish Romance."
You know, I never that song was Spanish. Hearing it in Quill's video, I was surprised it was Spanish. I heard that song many times but thought it was Baroque or something. Now I know.

Misleading. That song is a *folk song* and therefore age-appropriate. Looks like Firaxis music composers wanted to have their cake and eat it too, so they got a composition by Grieg that sounds like it came from the Viking Age. Notably, when you click the YouTube song, the other suggested songs are also all folk songs (more modern in origin) that are about the Vikings, sung in a Viking-esque way.

So they are now calling the piece in the beginning (American theme) the Baba Yetu of Civ 6? I just wonder what has happened to il Sogno di Volare. Compared to earlier let's play demos, the Tin piece no longer plays in the menu, but instead the less epic and music that is also quite overheard after all these First Looks it plays in. (For that reason my mind connects the song to also be the female narrator's theme. ) And, why use the American theme as the whole game's theme?

Isn't Il Sogno di Volare ready yet? Or is it reserved for other purposes, like the intro video or the ending? Or, I would dare not to say, has it made it into the game? I'm super disappointed if it's left out... which I hope and believe can't be true...

IIRC, il Sogno di Volare was played in London sometime this year, so it's probably ready to go. They're probably just saving it for the full release so the players have a nice (but long awaited) surprise when they first boot up the game.
