What is the Rune4 song called? I love it and want to send a link to some people :P

I don't know the answer to your question, but is it just me, or is one of the songs the theme music for Sins of a Solar Empire?

It's a remix of one of the music tracks from Heroes of Might and Magic 4. Grasslands theme, I think, but I'm not sure.

It's good, gave me the fantasy feel in heroes, which i've played for more than hundred hours :=)

Thanks for the link and the info, too.

Ahh, so the answer to my questrion was that Song of the Dead Sun turnes into the music used by SoaSE halfway throught.

The original is called Fuushun and comes from the Twelve Kingdoms anime soundtrack. Listen here.

I don't know where the bastardized version used in ffh comes from, but I clearly prefer the original. Awesome anime too, btw.

Runes4.mp3 is from the Eclipse mod for Half-Life where it is called: 12_MountainsofMourn_HighlanderRemix_RD.mp3. RD stands for Rich Douglas who composed the music for that mod. The HighlanderRemix part of the title suggests that it may be a mix of another work, but I dont now what Highlander it refers to. It does sound like it came either from the source you linked or they both share some similar origin.

Interesting stuff.

Kunihiko Ryō is the japanese composer of this and several other soundtracks. He was quite obviously influenced by irish/celtic music and blended some of those distinctive melodic styles with traditional chinese instruments embedded in an western orchestra.

It's highly likely that there's an irish ditty somewhere that sounds just like Fuushun.

Hmmm, that's quite interesting. Twelve Kingdoms and HoMM4 were both released in 2002, but that piece you linked is note-for-note the same as the water theme (thanks Danir!) from that game. The tempo is different and HoMM uses either a different instrument (electric rather than acoustic) or it's simply edited differently, but it's clearly the same music. I wonder what the story behind that is.

HoMM IV and 12 Kingdoms share more than that one track though, for example

&

Are not as identical as the last pair, but the similiarity is obvious. And there are more, too. The Order theme of HoMM IV for example.

Now, Heroes and the first episode of Twelve Kingdoms were published almost at the same time, with only several days inbetween (Heroes being the first). Digging the intarwebz has revealed that the music in the anime has most likely been inspired by several different relatively modern sources, whereas Heroes IV's music has its roots in at least Irish folk music. A theme similiar to the one I linked in this post has been used elsewhere as well.

So I think it's fair to presume that one of the inspirations for the music in Twelve Kingdoms was Heroes IV, simply because they use so many nigh-identical tracks. Perhaps they made a deal of some sort. Or perhaps they simply used an identical source. Some detective story this turned out to be!

The full story, it seems, will forever be hidden in the mists of time...

...

Oh yeah, these were the FFH forums! Erm... well, compliments about the soundtrack! Really good choices, regardless of the original source.

dude, you don't conduct music like this AND apply it to the apropriate movie scenes in ten days. That was quite certainly longer in the making.

However, one song could be a coincidence - one very old original tune inspiring two composers on the opposite place on the earth. But two ... or even more (Have to check the HoMM4 OST) ?

I don't think so. I really wonder how that came to happen.

Credited Composers:
HoMM4 - Paul Romero, Rob King, and Steve Baca
12Kingdoms - Kunihiko Ryō
12_MountainsofMourn_HighlanderRemix_RD.mp3 - Rich Douglas

I'm pretty sure that Rich Douglas only added the ghastly drums to this song.

Hey, I tried searching the forums, didn't help, so maybe you can give me an answer, if it has not yet been given already :)
Where is the Barbarian diplomacy theme from? You know, when you zoom into the barbarian cities. It's really familiar, just can't put my finger on it :/
Thanks in advance.

I think Kael said somewhere that it was from the animated kids movie Madagascar, I could be wrong though.

yeap, its the foosa song. :D

Odd that I don't remember it, its my youngest cousins favorite movie, so I've seen it alot. Do you remeber what part is it from?
