"Must have" titles for PS3?

Chiming in, as no one has mentioned JRPGs :P

-Catherine: A fun puzzle game with an amazing story line, great game to play.
-Dark Souls: Online play a must
-Persona 3, Persona 4, Persona 4 Arena-On the PS2 but available on the PS3 Store, AMAZING games, incredible stories, P3 and P4 are traditional JRPGs, P4A is a fighting game, great music all around
-Disgaea 4: Amazing JRPG with hilarious story, great music

well one of the reasons to get a PS3 is to get alot of the exclusive Japanese titles :P

Also, Armored Core, while not an exclusive, is AMAZING

No one mentioned them because they aren't really must plays unless you really like JRPGs, although Catherine does seem interesting (its also, thank goodness, not a JRPG).

Dark Souls really has nothing to do with the traditional concept of JRPG.

I completely forgot about Catherine in my own post but yeah that one is definitely worth a look, I enjoyed it a lot.

No, but I have a 3D HDTV and I'd like to try it. It would almost be worth purchasing a PS3 for me if there were good titles.

Have you tried it?

There are good titles for PS3, but by this point you'd be better off waiting for PS4.

Why? I pretty much completely disagree and say this is the best time to buy a PS3. It has been largely re-designed twice now, and the price has dropped to less than half of what it was at launch. Most importantly it now has a huge library of games and will continue to get new games for at least couple years still, if previous console generations are any indication.

PS4 on the other hand will have very few games at launch, cost more, and comes with all the quirks of new tech.

I believe he was referring to 3D games in particular. Odds are that the PS4 will make better use of that tech than the PS3 did. Or am I wrong?

For the record I don't know this (and should have known before speaking) but supposing PS4 is backwards compatible he should by all means get one supposing he can afford it. Sony has a reputation of products that work well even at launch. In fact, Microsoft is the main one that sucks in this regard.

From what I remember hearing, the PS4 will not be backwards compatible on release. It might get backwards compatibility through digital downloads, but because the architecture is so different I'm not sure if the ps3 discs will actually work at all.

PS3 will not have backwards compatibility, aside from digital downloads per PSN account I believe.

As long as everything he wants is available via PSN and the PS4 has an adequate amount of storage, he should still be fine.

I don't recall them offering the PS3 games as digital downloads, since that owuld mean redesigning all of them to run on the PS4 and at that point it would justb e easier to have developed backwards compatability. They're all going to be streamed to you from Gaikai's servers that wil lactually be playing them (I assume there will be a limited selection. Just like On Live tried to do. Also it will be part of the PS Premium subscription.

Yes, I was asking about 3D games in particular because at the moment only the PS3 (and a smattering of PC games that require expensive and weird setups) has 3D games. Are any of them good? Are there many of them?

Windows Vista, 7 or 8, + 3D supporting monitor + free paper/plastic 3D glasses = Enjoy your games in 3D!

The actual NVIDIA 3D glasses are $150 still though.

Wow, that sucks... Honestly I'm somewhat at a loss of words for that.

Time to troll.

That's a really small list compared to all of the games on PS3. Any of them good? Thanks BTW

Last time I checked you also had to buy a special graphics card and the list of games that are 3D capable is pretty low. It's been a while though. I'm fairly certain just having a 3D monitor with the special glasses isn't enough to play 3D games or I'd already be doing it. :\

Edit: I was wrong, with Nvidia you just need a driver. I have an AMD card though.
