Hey! I'm fairly new to the forums here and thought I would make my post trying to get some help to improve my game :)

I'm going to attempt my first monarch game and upload what happens as it comes. Any advice or criticism would be nice (I know I suck)

Now the game itself. (Disclaimer: I have no idea how to attach pictures inside the post so i've attached them below the post  ) I was given Wang Kong of Korea. I've played them once before on noble and didn't do so well :(

I've attached my start and the game save so you can see it/play it if you would like to.

Now my first question, where should I settle? It seems like a really really crappy start but I think i'll just roll with it. I was thinking about settling in place and picking up the wheat in another city since it isn't irrigated so it's not high priority. I would lose out on some of the flood plains if I moved to pick it up. I could move 1 north and see if there is anything up there? Thoughts?

Also, would it be a good idea to just cottage spam in my capitol?

Welcome to CFC! :)

Settle in place looks fine. Since you are financial, those floodplains are golden. ;)

Allthough it would be nice to get that wheat as well.
Have you moved your warrior allready? If not, where would be a good place to move him?

Settling in place means you get your first worker in 12 turns, which could be very nice!
Also, since you start with mining, you have the option of mining that sheep-hill.

Thankyou:)

Spoiler :
I moved the warrior onto the hut which gave a map showing some silver in the tundra. Also met the first Civ; Gilgamesh. I was also thinking of teching Agri into Pottery then mining so I can cottage and mine those sheep as you said. Looks like I've got some room to expand, though not very high quality land.

Also, how can I add pictures to the replies?

you attach images by using the image-taggs around a url to the image you want to show.

I like hosting my images on imigur, but there are alot of places to host your images.

Teching agri-> AH to work the sheep quickly is no doubt a sound idea.
You are going straight for the food!

This is the correct strategy in the wast majority of the cases, and it's nice that you have established that habit.

Ag>AH sounds pretty solid, with so few visible resources there's a good chance of having a strategic resource in BFC. If you do end up with horses then wheel>pottery to cottage FPs for early commerce could be useful. If not then maybe think about BW next.

Here is a picture of my planed cities

I opened up with a worker into 2 warriors and then a settler to spawn bust them a bit and keep my settler safe. I'm thinking about settling the city with the stone to pump out some early wonders. Thoughts?

Spoiler :
Ended up getting great wall and stone henge. Missed the mids by a few turns but got 400 golds so that isn't too bad :)

Looks like im isolated with gligamesh. He is protective iirc so this might be challenging. Maybe rush him with horse archers?

Here is a picture of the cities so far and my tech tree.

I'm going for monarchy so I can work those wine tiles in my city and the extra is happiness is nice :)

Giggles is backstabber in most of my games. You should use precaution. It doesn't seem like he has copper but I can't see the northwest area. Switch to slavery and monarch if you haven't done it to whip those unhappiness. Best to take him out now or have problems later. Expand more into his territory to block him off. Tech wise, have u tech aesthetic? Ai rarely research this and you can trade it for almost every tech below it, including meditation.
Just a question, are you a builder or warmonger type?

Gearing up to war against him now, massing up some horse archers on his borders. I've added a link to the save game where I am currently if you would like to give some advice some tile improvements and city placement because that is defiantly what I need to work on

On imgur, look for a box labeled "BBCode". Copy the text into your post directly (ideally in a spoiler tag)

Use the quote button on my post to see what the actually text looks like from imgur for the pic below - everything inside the spoiler tag.

Also, I'm curious. Did you pop that first hut before settling your capital? If not, make sure you settle your cap first before popping huts. Only way to get free techs.

Thanks! Sorry if it wasn't working before, still trying to get used to the formatting.

And I think I moved my warrior first, didn't know that you must settle first. I'll keep that in mind next time though!

Okay! Finally worked it out. I forgot to add the .jpg at the end so it wasn't working. Silly me. I've edited my posts and added spoilers.

Spoiler :
Finally killed off Gilgamesh. Took his last city which was the islamic holy city as well.

Used Horse archers to quickly get his weaker cities but ended up having to train my UU and some maces to take his well defended ones

Not sure what to do now, so i'm teching towards liberlism to see if I can snag that. Also met ragnar and boudica. Not sure where they are though

Spoiler :
And I just got chain declared on by Tokugawa, Ragnar and Mao

Ragnar Declared on me and tried to take my heroic epic city but failed against my city garison 3 long bows. Looks like he bribed them into war because of his massive tech lead

Why are you in a religion all by yourself? Generally not a good idea unless in Iso. Probably need to work on Diplo.

I highly encourage you to get the BUG mod.

Yes u really need to work on diplomatic relation. Having your own religion does cause a war but only cuz ur isolated its ok but not worth the extra boost in my opinion with civics. If u meet the other Ais trade with them see what their favorite civics are and switch to your likings (get 2 happy faces). Know the Ais character ex. Toku attacks even in please, Ragnar attacks if not in his religion, etcs. There's an article for Ais in this forum somewhere. Get BUG Mod, helps out greatly improve ur gameplay.
