(My first SG)For newbies

That would make the roster:

JJJ: UP
Elephantium: Just played
Goodsmell: On skip until further notice
choxorn: Skipped

...right? I'm not missing anyone, am I?

No, unless you count cody and the 3 months+ absent Pequenino... ;)

lurker's comment: I assume an aqueduct or hospital in a city with free walls from the Great Wall could be destroyed. Of course having an aqueduct in a city with size<7 is unlikely, and having a hospital and free walls is impossible in an unmodded game.

Yes, but the stupid AI might have built the Aqueduct in a city that can't grow above size 7/8, and then the city shrinks to <7 due to, well, something. Then, it gets free walls from the great wall, and the catapult can destroy it (or maybe even the free walls, if they're that messed up).

So, we're at war with the world, eh? *smiles evilly and starts talking like Mr. Burns* Exxxcellent. :evil:
Why did you raze the German cities without first checking the flip risk? It might not have been that high- this isn't deity level, after all. ;)

Hamburg was in a bad spot. Where the Stack is now, when there is a hill and a good choke point one squae away.
Frankfurt. I didn't want to spend the Time defending it. When the Front is going to be south of there.
Plus it solves the problem of any Culture Preasure on the Invasion City which is now none.

Okay then, but maybe we could keep a couple of the cities to save some settlers. ;)

Got it.

Choxorn, if you'd like to pre-empt me, that's fine; just post something to that effect within the next 11 hours, and I'll hold off on playing.

Otherwise, I'll play through some warfare tonight!

Nope, vanilla still doesn't work. Go ahead and wreak some havoc, Elephantium! :)

Turns 1 and 2 done. War is time-consuming! I'll play again tomorrow.

So far we're 15-5 vs. the Axis of Evil, and we're in a good position. Flight will come soon, which will nicely improve our artillery capabilities.

I played a few more turns last night, and I plan to finish the set and post them tonight. We've had several naval battles, and I have a very strong defensive line set up at Twin Peak Point (the new city founded on the red dot from JJJ's last post). I also did some restructuring at home to grow our smaller towns to 6 pop apiece - giving opportunities for more 3 labor/3 scientist farms.

Good news: My vanilla works again! :smug: :clap: :bowdown: :worship: :hatsoff: :woohoo: :yeah: [party] :band: :dance: :banana: :bounce: :thanx: :cheers: :high5: I guess that means I can take the save when Elephantium posts it.

You got it:

Pre-flight:

I notice we have no spies in England and try to remedy the situation. We get caught.

IBT:

We sink an attacking French ironclad near Besancon [1-0]
An English? Cavalry mistakes our red dot for a red X and goes digging for buried treasure. He didn't find any treasure, but he did get buried. [2-0]
A Russian Cossack out of Lisst suicides against our Infantry. [3-0]
An enemy Infantry joins his Cavalry brethren in the grave near Germo Invasion[4-0]
There might have been one more here, but too much was happening too fast for me to take very good notes - alt-tab doesn't work well during turn processing :(

Seattle: Inf->Inf
Cisco: Battleship->Battleship
Ivory Coast: Inf->Inf
New Orleans: Harbor->Battleship
Baltimore: Inf->Inf
Germo Invasion: Harbor->Walls

Turn 1 (1645 AD):

Two French Cav and one English Inf are redlined by artillery and shot by our Elite Cavalry near Germo Invasion [7-0]
Just for fun, we shell the Russian coast with some Destroyers.
We also shell the Russian landing party approaching our shore. This time we use land artillery :D
We use Ironclads and Destroyers to shell Lisst in preparation for our attack, which goes well. A Cossack and a Swordsman of all things die in the assault, as does the Archer south of town. Our victory is not without a cost, though; one of our brave Infantry sacrifices himself for the cause. [10-1]
Lisht is making Wealth.
We move a lot of troops around.

IBT:

French Ironclad dies near Avignon [11-1]
French Cavalry murders one of our red-dot Infantry [11-2]
English Cavalry tries to duplicate the feat and fails. [12-2]

Russia lands a raiding force near Tenochtitlan!

New York: Inf->Inf
Boston: Inf->Inf
Philly: Inf->Inf
Atlanta: Inf->Inf
Miami: Battleship->Battleship
Detroit: Transport->Carrier
Cincinnati: Inf->Inf

Turn 2 (1650 AD):

We lose an Ironclad to France after bombarding with other Ironclads. Stupid RNG :( [12-3]
Twin Peak Point (TPP) founded on the red dot. Making Temple for culture.
Artillery and Infantry are a good combo. Both (redlined) Cossacks near Tenochtitlan die, though they take two of our Infantry with them :( [14-5]
Endless Dunes founded on the Whaling Village island. Making Temple (culture)
Our Cavalry chases down the murderous (redlined) French cav near TPP. [15-5]
We redline a Russian Ironclad and sink their Galleon near Lisht.
We hurry Walls in Germo Invasion.

IBT:

French ironclad catches one of our transports unescorted. Our transport sinks the ironclad! [16-5]
Two French Ironclads sink their counterparts in the same area :( [16-7]
We have Motorized Transportation! ...Oops, I forgot to reduce the sci slider last turn. Regardless, Flight in 5.
Washington: Battleship->Battleship
Chicago: Inf->Tank
Seattle: Inf->Tank
Buffalo riots. We hire a scientist.
Baltimore: Inf->Tank
Germo Invasion: Walls->Courthouse prebuild (such as it is) for Airport

Turn 3 (1655 AD):

We sink the Russian Ironclad that escorted the invasion near Tenochtitlan! [17-7]
Ironclad sinks Russian Frigate in southern edge-of-the map waters. [18-7]
Redlined French ironclad repulses our own Ironclad attack. Stupid RNG! [18-8]
Our Ironclad spots enemy naval forces near Cologne and withdraws in anticipation of superior firepower in a turn or two.
We use artillery fire to redline French Infantry and Cavalry standing on the mountain next to TPP - they should die when they attack.
Change Arctic Dye from Wealth to Harbor - it could support a Specialist if it could get enough food from the sea.
Change St. Louis to Aqueduct - it could support more specialists if it farmed another couple of squares. It will need a Marketplace to keep the people happy though.
Change Dallas to Aqueduct - same reasoning as St. Louis.
MM several towns for better production and growth of outlying specialist farms.
Santa Fe to Harbor - same rationale
Tampa Bay to Harbor - ditto
All this MM pushes Flight to 6 turns, but I think the extra Scientists we can hire will be worth it when we get to Modern Times.
Also, we sell South Nome's Temple and switch its production to Submarine (complete in 66 turns instead of 166 for the Battleship)

IBT:

Not much action this turn. A French Ironclad sinks one of ours, but otherwise it is nothing but troop movements. [18-9]
Tenochtitlan riots. We hire a scientist.
New York: Inf->Tank
Boston: Inf->Tank
Philly: Inf->Tank
Atlanta: Inf->Tank
TPP: Temple->Barracks
Cisco: Battleship->Battleship
Cincinnati: Inf->Tank

Turn 4 (1660 AD):
Our Battleship puts paid to a Russian Caravel near Cleveland! [19-9]
We shell a French Ironclad near Lisht with four Ironclads, taking it to yellow. We'll try to sink it next turn.
We redline and sink an English Ironclad near Germo Invasion! [20-9]
Our Cavalry kills a redlined French Infantry who retreated STRAIGHT SOUTH onto empty grassland (!) from the mountain next to TPP [21-9]
Another Cavarly suicides vs. an English Cavalry next to Berlin, grr. [21-10]
A third Cavalry rights that injustice. [22-10]
A fourth Cavalry attacks an English Infantry (I hit the movement key one time too many, oops) and wins! [23-10]
Change Tenochtitlan to Marketplace - that might cut down on future riots.

IBT:

Near TPP, two French Cavalry suicide vs. our defenders! [25-10]
Washington riots! War weariness is starting to take its toll :( I hire two entertainers to give us more tolerance for the war.
New York riots! Again, entertainers.
Boston riots!
Mustang Canal: Battleship->Destroyer
Chicago riots, sigh. Entertainers!
Seattle: Tank->Tank
Miami: Battleship->Battleship
Ivory Coast: Inf->Inf (4 turns vs. 5 turns for Tank)
Houston riots. More entertainers.
Buffalo riots. Sigh.
Detroit riots. Grr.

Turn 5 (1665 AD):

Our Ironclad sinks a French Ironclad near Lisht. Waiting paid off. [26-10]
Our Battleship sinks a Russian Frigate in map-edge waters. [27-10]
Our Elite Cavalry defeats two redlined French Infantry south of TPP! [29-10]
Our elite Infantry slays a German Knight on the mountain north of TPP. [30-10]
A Veteran Cavalry clears the fields south of TPP of French Infantry [31-10]
Veteran Cavalry kill three English troops (Swordsman, Warrior, and Longbowman) on the road to Berlin [33-10]
Sell Azpoca Temple (we no longer need it for culture expansion)
I also drop science by 10% (flight still in 4) and raise the lux slider to 20%. Hopefully this will allay the WW.

IBT:

The French request an audience. They offer a peace treaty, no strings attached. We spurn their offer.
We trade Ironclads with the French near Besancon, then sink another of theirs near Avignon [35-11]
An English Cavalry raids Germo Invasion and catches our boys with their pants down. Scratch one Infantry. [35-12]
The Russians lose an Ironclad while trying to sink ours near Krasnoyarsk [36-12]
And then they lose another one before they sink our Destroyer near Vladivostok! [37-13]
Philly: Tank->Tank
Atlanta: Tank->Tank
New Orleans: Battleship->Destroyer
Baltimore (pollution strikes!): Tank->Tank
Cincinnati: Tank->Tank
Fro Toe: Courthouse->Police Station (it will be a reasonable production center in about a century if we drop the corruption a bit)
We catch a French spy.

Turn 6 (1670 AD):

We Investigate Heidelburg to see that the Germans only have two units on garrison duty there. Excellent. We move some forces into position to sack the town next turn.
We shell Berlin, killing some citizens, destroying the Library, and hurting some troops.
Our Cavalry kills an English Knight near TPP [38-13]
We lose a Cavalry to a redlined French Infantry [38-14]
Our Cavalry units attack Berlin and slay the defenders! [41-14]
We own Berlin! I'm kind of wary about it flipping, but I'm going to wait and see.
Our Cavalry finally kills that pesky French Infantry outside Berlin. [42-14]
Our (now Elite) Destroyer sinks a French Elite Ironclad near Besancon! [43-14]
Also, our first wave of Tanks is now en route to Germo Invasion!

IBT:

In a moment of blind stupidity, I didn't garrison Berlin strongly enough, and it falls to the French. Scratch one Leader-producing Cavalry :( [43-15]
New York: Tank->Tank
Boston: Tank->Tank
TPP: Barracks->Walls
Seattle: Tank->Tank
Cisco: Battleship->Battleship

Turn 7 (1675 AD):

Our Ironclads sink an English Frigate and Galley (yes, galley!) near Cologne. [45-15]
Our Cavalry gains revenge in Berlin! [46-15]
Another Cav promotes to elite as it rides into Berlin [47-15]
Battleship vs. French Ironclad near St. Louis. We win [48-15]

IBT:

In Berlin-
2x/French Cavalry vs. our Infantry. [49-16]
2x/Fr. Infantry vs. our Infantry. [51-16]
Washington: Battleship->Battleship
Tenochtitlan riots. We switch to four actors and one scientist to avoid another riot in the next few turns of WW.
Palo Alto riots. We hire two entertainers, one of which loses us a scientist.
Philly: Tank->Tank
Atlanta: Tank->Tank
Chicago: Tank->Tank
Tacoma riots: we deal with it.
Las Vegas riots. We deal.
Miami: Battleship->Battleship
St. Louis riots. We deal.
Denver riots. More singers!
Cincinnati: Tank->Tank
Tula riots, we deal.
San Diego riots. We deal.

Our Cavalry slay the German Spear and Musket in Heidelburg with arty support. [55-16]
We take over and start making Barracks.
Our Elite Infantry kills an English Cavalry, no promotion :( [56-16]
Our Cavalry vs. 2 Fr. Infantry and a cav, we win [59-16]
Sci and lux sliders to 30% - flight in 1 turn, WW held more at bay.

IBT:

We lose an Ironclad southwest of Lisht. [56-17]
We have Flight. Radio in 9 turns.
New York: Tank->Airport
Boston: Tank->Airport
Seattle: Tank->Tank
Ivory Coast: Inf->Factory
New Orleans: Destroyer->Airport
Baltimore: Tank->Airport
Buto: Temple->Wealth

We arty and Inf/Cav attack French Inf. on the road outside Berlin. [58-17]
We win a Cav vs. Cav outside TPP [59-17]
Our now Elite Battleship sinks Russian Ironclad near Tblisi! [60-17]
Our Tank Army has its first victory! [61-18]
...and then we have our first Tank loss vs. English Infantry :( [61-19]
Oh well, we avenge the death with a Cav. [62-19]

No one is offering anything noteworthy for peace. Oh, well.

IBT:

English Cavalry retreat at Berlin and Heidelburg [64-19]
Russians decide an infantry charge at Berlin is a good idea. [69-20]
They follow up with a Knight. [70-20]
Philly: Tank->Airport
Mustang Canal: Destroyer->Factory
Atlanta: Tank->Airport
TPP: Walls->Airport
Cisco: Battleship->Airport
Springfield: Harbor->Police Station
Cincinnati: Tank->Airport
Germo Invasion: Airport->Wealth
Palace expansion

Turn 10 (1690 AD):

Our Army kills a French Infantry and Swordsman [72-20]
Switch Berlin to Temple (reduce culture flip risk).
Our Battleship kills a French Ironclad [73-20]
We lose a Cavalry vs. a redlined Russian Inf before killing it and producing a Leader! [74-21]
Our Cav kills an English Cav near Liverpool [75-21]

*Our Home Defense militia is stationed near Cleveland; they've been fighting a few minor invasions with great success.
*A few more turns of warfare should finish Germany and give us the northeastern peninsula on the enemy continent. We're in a good position going forward.
*More MM against WW would be good, but there are too many towns for me to MM every turn. It would be good for us to sue for peace once we have the peninsula secured and get our people happy with us. Plus, that gives us time to stock up on bombers!

Another leader!!! :D Oh, and no wonder planting spies didn't work in your Pre-Turn:

JJJSpider said:
Planted a Spy in all except England
:lol: Well, time to play.

Hey, JJJ, remember when you said switching govs is a bad idea? Well, the fact that 47 (:eek:) cities rioted in the Turn 3-4 interturn might change your mind. To solve it, I would have to raise lux to 50 or 60%. Still think changing to Commy is a bad idea? ;)

Meh. If I'd been more on the ball, I would have upped luxes sooner and avoided the extra WW. I could have negotiated peace treaties, too - but I wanted to hold out until they would offer concessions!

Well, Germany was destroyed last turn, (:D) so they can't be the cause of this WW. We're probably getting it from England- They captured Leipzig twice and have the highest kill ratio vs. us in general. Unfortunately, the last time I checked, they wanted Steel for peace. I might give them a crappy city with a high flip risk, but not Steel. I'll check now.
