I LOVE that saying: Just remember, you're UNIQUE. Just like everybody else.
Yes, it's hilarious seeing the counselors expression when you say that during one of those "class learning sessions" where they teach you about how everyone is unique and all that stuff.

As long as you are a goth because thats what you are, I dont mind. I should rephrase. I don't mind goths. I hate the people who walk around acting gothic and like writing poems about death and cutting themselves for fun and always trying to look depressed just so they will fit in with the rest of the gothic community. It's that adaption of another personality that I can;t stand. I'm sure not only Goths do it but Goths are the most lnoticable ones and thats also what makes me also so mad at them.

How in the world are you going to sit in the back of a class and wear all black, with white make-up and act like you dont want to be noticed.

But as long as you are a Goth because that's just who you are, then I don't mind. In fact I encourage it.

Get A's on your tests, gather them and show them to her... they realy make parents happy

There is a potential drawback. This proves to your parents that you are capable of making an A and so when you make a B or C you are so screwed.

And yes, it is important to do other things than sit around playing on the comp all day. Do chores around the house, talk a walk, chill out with friends. Go out into the woods and build forts. As long as you do other things, I say playing 8+ hours is just fine.
I am one who did everything right--stayed in school, got good grades, did my chores, played outside, built forts that Saddam wished he had, obeyed the limit on how often I could play video games--

Read some of the stuff I post in Off-Topic, and ask yourself how I came to be the damn bloomin' psycho that I am. :crazyeye:

Take my advice: screw school, neglect your chores, experiment with weed and alcohol. Argue with your parents about video games or whatever else. It's the only way to come out normal.....

Bah, my school is filled with skaters and preps. There's a few nerds, but they're just so......dumb......(with everything not school related)
Besides, I'm not actually a geek. I'm more goth and sociopath than that. And do you realize how hard it is for sociapaths do get anything even resembling a social life?!?!?!?!!?!?!?? :crazyeye:

Hold everything! I may be able to help you. I'm pretty much the same age as you (I'm in ninth grade, don't know what you're in), and only one state over, and I may say that our school is made up of preps and skaters also. Believe it or not, people (including me) consider me a prep. I used to be a prep-skater and before that just a skater. Now, based on my experiences, and the fact that I didn't want to be ragged by cool people, and also how I wanted to have friends that wouldn't be ragged, making me look like a complete moron for hanging out with them, I gave that past life up, went to American Eagle, and bought some shorts and collared shirts and got rid of my skater shoes (replaced them with K Swiss). Now, I didn't fit in right away, but I'm starting to be assimilated. I'm at the point now where cool people don't rag me anymore and I'm actually cool enough to hang out with them. Why did I tell you this story? One reason. If you stay a goth for the rest of your high school career you will not have any social life (as you said). I recommend you go through a change, like I did. I did this all last year. I think it was a pretty strategic move on my part because when you go into high school, you basically have a clean slate to work with and starting out as a 'semi-prep' will probably allow me to become a 'full prep' by my sophomore year. I joined football (I'm a quarterback, #11), futhering my efforts to become cool. Finally, I'm trying to give up Civ. I don't play it so much anymore because I use most of my time practicing football and doing other things.

Now, that may have been the most off-topic post ever, but I recommend you take my advice, IF you want a social life. Of course, you don't have to. :)

Actually, I only wear black. I've never understood teh wearing white makeup and acting like you're not tryin to be noticed when you actually are part. Which is why I'm more sociopath than goth.

Are you serious about that?

First: I didn't read any part of this thread but the first post.
Here's a simple thing to propose to your mom--
contract to have a system where you Earn civ time--with grades, or exercise, or whatever she wants you to do instead. That way, you can earn Extra civ time.

I used to play Huge maps, and got kind of flabby sitting around for huge amounts of time due to the long waits between turns. So, I started doing exercise, to earn each turn. Do ten pushups a turn, that's over 5000 pushups in an average game. Look like the governator in no time. Or make straight A's. Or whatever else.

On weekdays I .have school plus homework so i really don't get much time to play. I only really play on weekends. My mom dose'nt care as long as I get good grades and the credits.

Lock your mom in a closet That always works!

Yeah then when she busts out shes gona giev ya a big spanking  and take your civ away

also why would she take it in the first place if your following her 2 hour rule?

Nope

Was actually a funny read ;)

But 2 hours a day? When I was around 13-15 I was only allowed to play the computer about 30 minutes a day!

You need to use an Espionage mission to locate the missing CD, make sure you've stocked up loads of gold as it may cost you a lot to spy on all the possible locations. Try to make sure that you have put yourself into a Communist government too. Then negotiate a Right Of Passage with your mother so that you can go and collect the CD without being accused of rummaging through her private things. After that, bribe her with Luxury Resources and bind her into a Mutual Protection Pact so she'll always have to support you or risk getting a bad rep with all the other moms. Simple.

I play Civ III upwards of 12 hours every day, and as you can see I am still firmly grounded in the real world. Hasn't done my sanity any harm whatsoever. *squawk*

Darn......I was hoping everyone would forget this thread and let it die......

Well I just read this whole thread...

At least I don't get civ taken away....never have..The longest game I played is Age of Empires 2 w/ expainsion online for almost 4 hours..2 in a half hours for not online games of AoE...

Civ 3--longest I play a day...1 hour....something like..that's on an average....

Before I do anything...I get my homework..even if it takes until 8 PM...then I go in this site...(I spend more time on this site then Civ3... :mischief: )

I guess many people are reluctant to just "fit into the crowd" and change themselves in order to be acceptable in other's eyes. I know that I was when I was a teenager.

I'd say the best thing one can do is to just be oneself and do the things that one enjoys (as long as they aren't illegal or dangerous to others or oneself). In most cases, nature will take care of itself and we turn out to be okay anyway when we grow up.

I read a lot, programmed my computer, played role-playing games and was both afraid and fascinated by girls when I was a teen. Then, when I moved out to another city and away from everyone that I had known to continue my education I naturally began to build some social skills until I became what I am: A married man with a job and way too little time to enjoy Civ!

Of course, in Finland we have this thing called conscription that takes us away to military service for at least six months. For many young men it is rather a nice step between teenage and adulthood and teaches many such (psychological) skills that one needs later in life.

One thing you can do with your mother: Show her that you are a responsible youth who knows (mostly) what he is doing and she will eventually begin to trust in the fact that you are able to make your own choices on how you use your time. Show her that you understand why she is taking the game away from you and things will continue from there...

It seems to me that you are quite popular for being a sociopath ;) 4 pages!

You mom might be worried for you being a sociopath and by your goth looks, and I bet she is blaming Civ for that. That might be the reason for the 2 hours limit. I bet if you had a stronger social life and did your homework :vomit: she wouldn't be using the limit thing. Another tip, Does she use a computer? Does your father do it? Parents use to be afraid or to blame things we do not know.

Look for things they like, buy a CD with recipes and show it to her, if your father likes history show him some of the scenarios, he might like it and realize it does not do any harm. But only do all of this if you think it is worthy.
