My New Mod

Playing as Carthago, 3rd dif-level, 7 rivals.
Doing quite well. Culture 2 times the value of nbr 2, and power only 1 rival of the same size.
Alas, that rival with the same power (Iroquis) demands for something without anything in return. I refused because normally I would be able to handle that.
What I did not know was the fact that they had an enormous army, mainly based on Surveyors. Allthough I had lots of defenders like Rifleman and Musketman, both with a defenserate of 7 or higherand attackers like Imperial Cavalry and normal Cavalry, I could not stand that crowd of Surveyors. Even behind walls they were no match for me.
Their ability of moving 6 tiles everywhere meant a constant surprise on different places for wich I had no answer.
Actually they performed kind of a tankrush.
On top of that the problem that AI-rivals eactly know where your resources are.
In my case Coal. Only in 1 place and of course outside my borders. War starts before you can build an adequate defense. Beiing shut of my Coal no expanding Railroad anymore, so I have to go back in time or make a new scenario.
I have a couple of questions now:
1. What is the best defender against Surveyors?
2. Is there a way to alter the movement of Surveyor from 2 to 1 in a Sav-file via the Editor? Maybe that 6 tile-move is a little bit to much.
3. Medium and Heavy Cavalry can be build when only Horses are available. The Medium is a fast unit with bombardment-facility, so quite atrractive.
However, the moment Iron is available you can not build them anymore. I would like to alter that also in my SAV-file. Possible?

I am using some Art-work now by implemting your terrain-files.
The details like Irrigation and trees I like.
The basic colors you use for grass, plains and sea are IMHO way to hard and flat (pixels of same color)

Endconclusion for this moment: I really enjoy myself with My Mod.

I can't modify my sav files, so I do't know. I would give the serveyours a movement of four and uncheck all terrain as roads. or make their attack 1 and only a high defence. and insn't the graphics that i use the default civ 3 terrain?

Pity we cannot alter Sav-files. Now it is difficult to check if altering a unit-value gives the desired effect because you have to setup a new scenario.
And NO, your terrain-art is diifering a lot from the original.
At the moment I am working on a sheet with all mounted units. Will try to solve the surveyor and medium/heavy cavalry problems.
Will keep you informed.
BTW: Maybe its a good idea to download from Atomicgamer and see for yourself what the real content is.

Transport by rail is infinite. Should be limited somehow. Can't find a way for that.
I seem to remember is was limited maybe in CTP.
Is it possible in Civ3?
AvG

Pity it's hardcoded. Was afraid of that because you do not see it in the Editor.
In the past I played Civ2, CTP1, CTP2, Civ3, Civ4 for God knows howmany hours.
That's alredy several years ago. Since that time I played numerous other strategic games and am now sometimes a little bit confused about what feature belongs to what game.
But the plain fact that I am back at Civ3 (spended the last monthes several hundreds of hours on it) means, at least to me, that Civ3 is maybe the best game ever made.
I like it a lot more than Civ4. (IMHO 3D adds nothing to the game)
Every move that makes the game more complex is welcome. That's the reason I am trying out MY Mod now. 6-8 hours/day is way to much, but pretty normal for me.
AvG

Its the exact same for me. I play 5-8 hours a day and my parents get all mad at me for always being on it. I also like civ3 better than 4, but because my computer can't run it (i have a toshiba celeron processor).
