The main reason for sigs to be a certain length is to stop something like this happening:

And the 30 posts and 30 days is meant to stop people from comming here, regestering, uploading an avatar, and then never comming back again.

We probably have one of the lowest requirements for custom titles and custom avatars.

As for signature, 5 lines is a reasonable limit so we don't have extremely long sigs that are far longer than the posts.

actually this is the first time Ive been on a forum that required it...

all the others Ive been to... had no requirements...

yeah your point is taken... if you have a long useless sig like that...

(but I thought that was admins were for to PM peeps about it)

and yeah I have never been to a forum that had the limits on it's avatars and sigs

(except you can only put in a certain amount... but that is default of it...for example everyone one complained about the length of my original sig... but on other forums... if my sig was too long... I couldnt enter it all in... then have people tell me it's too long... it would just cut me off when I entered it originally...)

One forum I go to doesn't even allow either one. Titles fixed based on postcount, and no avatars. Period.

And the sig limit isn't a character limit. It's a vertical height limit. Hard to automatically control.

as for the sig limit... that's odd (for me anyway)

the other forums I am registered to has a character limit.... (I know I pushed the limit and found it out)

We could put a character limit too, but it wouldn't work well, because you can have one character per line and have a very long sig. If we put the character limit too small, people would complain. So a number of lines limit works better in our experience.

Don't think 5 line sig limit is too little... It's amazing how much stuff and links people can fit into it...

Do notice that you can also make the text in your sig be size 1. So you can fit more into it.

You've probably joined the forum as a member to discuss the game and some of the other topics that come up here...so why let an avatar stop you?

I don't think I even had an avatar until I was around 800 or so posts into things.

Actually I did come here to discuss and get info on CIV4

but with the forums responses to one of my posts about avatars...

well I'm rethinking the whole 'registering' thingy and posting altogether...

Civ4 doesnt work?

Is it your copy or maybe it needs a fan patch...

I found the Harkonenn patch help me run it


here is the link

it only works with the 1.09 patch (he is working on the 1.52 patch)

basically CIV4 doesnt work well with some "high end" computers and there is a problem of managing virtual Memory...
(the thread explains it better than I can...)


this patch fixes that...

so you might want to check it out...

This is exactly why I question on being registered...

I made one post and people make comments about it...

I then respond to those comments and more people make comments...

and that is how I got my # of posts (besides posting in two other forums)

I wasnt talking about your avatar, was talking about your entire registration as you've said here you didnt know whether it was worthwhile.

If you got warned by the mods, then you should know yourself what you were warned for. Serching for your earlier posts i could not find any other then your posts on this thread. They probably got deleted for a very good reason i can bet. Mods don't give warning for no reason, your posts (that got you warned) were most likely out of line with the rules. (Flaming/Trolling/Language (Swearing)/Spamming, etc)
