[GS] Named Deserts.....how do I get them in-game?

I am seriously confused about this one. I have never managed to have named Deserts in the game.....yet everyone assures me you can set the game to show them. Can anyone please tell me how this would be done?

Mine were just there without doing anything. But I do think there's a toggle in the map options, not looking at the game at the moment but I believe there's an icon around the minimap to open the menu.

All the different groups of geographical labels have a toggle in the map options.
