National Anthems!

Montenegro's National Anthem is very intimidating. It sounds like the theme song for an evil organization in a movie, like maybe the Galactic Empire in Star Wars

I always get a kick out of all the nationalism that takes place in the comment sections of these videos.

I like that one except the final like chord
It doesn't fit in with the general mood of the song

Wow, sounds great indeed. Some mixture of Russian Imperial, Orthodox and Cossacks spirit. Similar style as Peter the Great theme in Civ4.

Well, leaving aside the "land of the free" sentiment which... well... OK, we'll not mention that, as I say... that is one very strangely penned anthem, imo.

I mean, for instance:
"On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:"

What? Just what? It does just about scan, in fact. But very oddly. But what on earth is it on about?

And small children have to learn this stuff off by heart????

No wonder Americans are weird.

Still, other anthems aren't any better, I guess.

How I long for the day when national borders are simply a dim memory of an incomprehensible former age!

Not that I hold with taxation without representation, I hasten to add. Oh dear me no.

This may have already been stated by someone (as I am reading this thread for the first time) but only the first stanza is sung at public events. Many people know the words to the first stanza but few people are even aware of the following stanzas, much less know the words.

Every time I hear "God Save The Queen" I can't help but use these words:

Thanks grammar school teachers...

Grandfather was a Scot and often told me of the Highlanders and their deeds, no anthem, but for rousing music and song(?).

And if your interested in the lads themselves, here's one example:

"They would rather eat the husks from their children's mouths, they would rather die at the altars, sepulchres and hearths of their ancestors, than submit, for they regard themselves as an ancient nobility, kings among kings".

Holy #&$@!, this is a great anthem! I am ready to take up arms and march on whomever is the enemy du jour.

Really? Hmmm... I could only stand about 20 seconds of this boredom, then scrolled to 1:30 to find if it gets any better then; it doesn't.

Probably that's why they had to make "The Sacred War" ("Священная война") when they really needed the thing. That one makes my skin crawl. I assume it has something to do with the rhythm matching heartbeat or something.

EDIT: What really makes me wonder (enormously) is where comrade Lohrenswald dug this thing out from. It's not like the local regional Russian anthems are all over the Internet for everyone to stumble upon while searching for anything, is it?

I like both, they are quite inspiring, but made in different styles.

Daw, you seem to be very arbitrary in what you deem as good or not, and then describe them in a very black and white way

There's a bunch of youtube channels dedicated to this stuff

I'm sorry if it looks this way. It is probably a side effect of my efforts in trying to as much as possible prevent my position from being misinterpreted. Results in me putting it in a somewhat exaggerated way, possibly. I do apologize if it looks offensive, never mean it.
