Native Amazons ModComp

Really, then over 95% of people here on CFC will not be able to use this, sorry.:( Thats why i WISH Civ 5 doesnt use this crappy tga stuff.

You don't have to be sorry ;), I just didn't know that this is such a major issue. I've added a workaround for this problem in the first post.

I'm not 100% sure, but I did read in the past something like how to replace the spline interpolator with a transform interpolator... may be a import/export animation with blender...

I'm afraid more than one of the interpolators might need to be exchanged for this. After all, the nodes are connected to each other and changing one might result in a strange reaction of all following nodes. Also it might be the case that not the HorseBip L UpperArm node is at fault here, but some parent node. However, I don't say that repairing this glitch is impossible, but might be a lot of work. Still, if you want to try it I wish you best of luck. At least you'll learn a lot about animation.

Edit: Maybe this tutorial will be of help for you: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=271331

Ive been loking for mods with female units and this one is very interesting, nice art on the units and also the sense of having male units fighting in your army along with female units is... Interesting. I wonder what they due when I stack them and order them to Fortify? :mischief:

Too bad it only lasts till gunpowder, like if gunpowder is enough to end with the legacy of the amazons.

I just put up a request for a mod, since you know. I'm just being picky here.

Please check it out.

U remember that favor u did for me?

Well guess what? I got to Gunpowder and of course no more Amazons, I think I forgot about that little detail.

So, um... I know I ask too damn much. Yo Saibot! Anyway I can add more units to your modcomp?

In fact both aspects can be changed realatively easy. I'll quote myself from the first post here:

The python functions that changes the units to Amazon units is written in a way that all units that have similiar named Amazon unit counterparts are targets. For example, the existence of the Unit_Amazon_Archer makes the Unit_Archer a target. So, if it is desired to add more Amazon units to this mod this is possible by just naming the new Amazon units accordingly. For example, if an Amazon Knight should be added to this mod, that unit should be named Unit_Amazon_Knight. This is also the reason why the for example the Amazon Greatswordwoman files can be found in the Amazon_Maceman folder. Of course this will only work if the 'Amazons' bonus isn't obsolete at the time that unit is build. To change the tech that makes that bonus obsolete change the xml files accordingly as well as the entry 'TECH_GUNPOWDER' under 'onTechAcquired' in the python file 'CvEventManager'.

The second part also covers the Tech that makes the Amazon units convert into their male counterparts. So all you have to do to change my modcomp the way you like is some xml scripting, which isn't very hard to learn and offers much possibilities.

Yeah, I was messing around with that XML thingy and its surprisingly simple to rewrite, of course I couldnt figure THAT much out just by poking.

But with these instructions I think I'll get it done. Thanx again for your help and I apologize for the harrasment.

Mr Strategy: Everything you make is so cool you can take a dump and it will still be cool. So I'll check out your spy vs spy, even the title is cool.

I've updated this modcomp to version 3.0. :)

The changes are:

- The modcomp is now mostly modular and should therefore be must easier to add.
- Added a new unit, the Amazon Skirmisher to replace the Catapult
- Removed the .tga files

See the first page for more details.

SaibotLieh,

Thanks much for posting this!! I'm new to the game and to this website, but I've already become an instant fan of your work.

When I was younger, I used to design modifications for the original "Unreal Tournament," and so I appreciate the type of commitment involved here.

And I would like to contribute something also. I'm definitely going to have to study the inner workings of Civ IV first. But I have a couple ideas for my own modification... I'm thinking something in the way of lengthening the time Amazons are present in the game before "the show is over" (they get replaced by male counterparts).

This could mean prohibiting advancement into the modern era or otherwise cutting off access to certain technologies. A less extreme idea would be to simply lengthen the research time required for each of the earlier technologies. Still another idea would be to convert the Amazons into their own playable civilization, providing female replacements for the modern soldiers. I will need to reflect on this some more.

But thanks again for your contributions. You are very talented.

Thank you, I'm glad you like my work. :)
I'm always happy when somebody wants to work with my creations and I wish you luck with your modifications. I would however first check the other mods and modcomps in this forum if the things you want are already made by somebody else. At least maybe you can build onto some other work.
By the way, I've already made some modern female soldiers. Because they wear the same uniforms as the male soldiers, they don't look that much different, but that was indeed intended.
And last but not least: Welcome to CFC. :)

Nice, but this mod did not work on my BtS 3.19, why? Must I change something? I only copy the NativeAmazons in the BtS/mod-folder. Start game, select a nation, put one amazonvillage with the builder in range to my new city and after the first round the BtS crashed... so what is the problem? Hope, you can help me!

Hm, I tried myself to start a game with the downloadable file and had the same problem. Don't know the reason why. :dunno: I've uploaded a fresh version of the modcomp that worked on my computer. Please try again with that file.

Hiya. Spotted this mod, downloaded it and am rather enjoying the variety in my units.

One thing I've noticed... my Cottages (for Amazon-harvesting, among other things) don't seem to develop into Hamlets (or Villages or Towns) any more. I can overwrite them in the Builder easily enough, but during the game they don't have the "City must work to grow" or "X turns to *next size*" notes. City Ruins, however, suddenly can convert to full-bore Towns if they're worked for a single turn.

Also, how do you go about using the Native Amazons modcomp with the Female Great Persons modcomp? The description for FGP suggests that it's doable, but I can't figure out how - I can only tell BTS to load one or the other.

Hi, glad you like it. :)

I'm sorry about the error. It seems like the modulation of the improvments doesn't work like it should. I've changed the important file accordingly, now it seems like it works like it should. I've uploaded the new version of the modcomp, but you can also fix it by just downloading the attached file and replacing the old one with it.

For using more modcomps together it is quite easy. Just put all the files in the 'Modules' folder into the 'Modules' folder of your main mod(comp). With my modcomps it is a tad more work because I modified some python commands. If you want to use the Female Great Persons modcomp together with the Native Amazons modcomp I'd suggest to use the Amazon modcomp as main mod. After having copied the files of the 'Modules' folder you'll have to modify the CvEventManager.py file in the 'Python' folder. First, just open the file of both modcomps (for example with Notepad++, but even the normal Notepad should work). Next, search in the Great People one for 'saibotlieh'. You should find two entries ('# Female Great People - saibotlieh - start' and '# Female Great People - saibotlieh - end'). Copy these two lines and everthing that is between them and paste it in the same place in the Amazon CvEventManager.py file (into the onGreatPersonBorn definition, between 'return' and 'if (not self.__LOG_GREATPERSON):'). You can ignore all other files in the Female Great People folder, because the same things are already included in the Native Amazons files.

Now you should have successfully merged two of my modcomps. :)

:thanx:

After a bit of "wait - it doesn't look right - I did that wrong, didn't I?", I now have amazons and lady prophets running around my map. And the cottages are developing exactly as planned... :D

Thank you muchly.
