Natural wonders development thread

the cultural boosts for discovery and ownership of wonders needs to be changed to happy boosts. dacubz can give more in depth explaination
 
Right now when you found a city next to a wonder the culture gets a huge boost. Unless you are playing on a huge map more then likely it is going to happen in the begining of the game. It really seems to OP to me at this point since when you discover one it is similar to getting a great artist it seems like and in the begining of the game it is to strong

I would like to see it changed to happiness, one who owns it +2 happiness in all cities, +1 happiness in nearest city. One who discovers it first +2 happiness, all others who discover +1 happiness

But noqw that i remember Jamie said there was no way to switch the happiness if the wonder switched hands (there is but to game costly) and i beleive he fixded the huge culture so if happiness doesnt work let me give culture another try
 
Maybe you should keep the culture-bomb, but make it relative to the era. As for happiness, do you want this to last the whole game or expire? Anbd BTW, it would be possible to switch the happiness or culture when the wonder switched hands, at least in SDK.

But no - that was the first wonder that came to my mind (along with niagra falls). It is pretty hard to create art for a whoel int he ground since if it is undr the ground it just wouldnt appear. Only idea i had is to make an elevation then create a whole in that but that would look inaccurate plus im still not the best at art

Maybe you can request it to HROCHland but hes pretty busy but if anyone can do it he can
 
I think that would be a must, if it is possible.

EDIT: I meant having the Grand Canyon, not making it multiple tiles.
 
I have an idea

we Don't use any more SDK, but we use ONLY the adjecent plots for checking for city ownership, as cities can;t be that close we never have to check owner! (plats idea)

I can start working on this (adjecent tiles for bonus + :) or even specialists) immediately if you want
 
instead of checking that the wonder is the in BFC of a city, check if it is in the first cultural radius (adjecent plots). This fixes 2 problems, the checks in on CultureExpansion are removed and also as cities cannot be founded next to each other the natural wonder will only EVER be in the radius of that city.

Also the specialists could be a good idea for settled. Maybe temporary happiness for discovery, per civilization and then settling next to one either gives happiness or some random specialists are settled.
 
I see a couple problems with that though, it is very possible that a city is adjacent but does not own it since another city could be founded two plots away but have much more culture and own it

Also what if a city owns it but isnt right next to it? It doesnt get the bonus?

Also what if you changed it so the number of plots required inbetween cities is 1 not the usual 2. I always do that for my mods since i find it much better.
 
Another country may own it but it is still adjecent to that city. also the city difference is 3 not 2 :p

so even if the cities can found 1 tile closer they don't overlap first ring tiles :D

what do the think about temporary happiness on discovery (as it is to all players it speeds up performance) and the random specialist settled in the city that is adjecent to that woner?
 
Specialist doesnt make sence to me. I can't think of a natural wonder that effected an engineer or scientist or most specialist. Now I can think of a couple that you could make an argument for priest, and maybe for artists since they paint the wonder?? But I do not think thats an accurate effect

I still think the xml tag for happiness is the best option. If we do that we dont even have to do most of the python checks, everything is through sdk. Most (if not all not sure) of the stuff you added in sdk is just xml tags. I read something a bit ago that said they are pretty simple - so already to merge our mod you need to edit DLL so having to edit it just a little bit more i dont think matters since you already have to edit it

Not to mention It would be best this mod runs as quickly as possible
 
well imagine scientists come and settle because they are researching unique animals or a prophet settles as he belives the site is holy. An artist settles as he wants o paint it. A engineer might be hired to build a statue in the city to comemorate it or maybe build a visitor centre. A merchant might be there to sell merchandise or profit from the wonder in some other way. Very believable

XML tag is easy, making it work is the hard bit. that would be voy's domain.

I thnk haver a 50% chance for happiness or random settled specialist. In python for the moment, it's easy, fast (you reeeealy won't tell the difference) and this has taken long enough, I can start work on friday and finish on friday as well.
