Naval Mod, from 4000 BC to 2000 AD

I might be able to.

I actually did one today, played around a lot with the one there, and the frigate a little.

I am just adding it to the DB.

Yep, DataBase, I think that is the correct shorty.

Anyways, the one on the left is mine, the one on the right is the one I modified.

Good thing I am not from space, arr. It would be Space Junk!

Anyways, back to the mod.

So far I have quite a few names for the Unique ships already in that had them.

The American Heavy Frigate has maybe 6 (If you know of more Sword, since you are from New England, please share. :P)

The British SotL Has maybe 27 so far (All the ones from Trafalgar, there all in a book I have on that battle).

The French Ironclad Battleships has maybe 20.

The German Pocket Battleship has 3, the Yamato Class for the Japanese has 2 etc.

I am trying to add in names as I go along..

I believe we Americans pioneered a special class of Ship of the Line called an Ironside, which the USS Constitution is a member. Hope that helps.

The USS Constitution was called "Old Ironsides" because she was able to take a heavy beating... and she was able to do that because of the wood she was constructed from which was very hard and dense and thus between normal wood used for ships and iron in terms of the ability to absorb hits from cannonballs of the day. The ship itself was heavier than most frigates of the day, and I believe that the US Navy tended to build their frigates a bit heavier instead of investing in many big battleships, but to say that this was some class of Ship of the Line is not accurate.

In reply to the USS Constitution/Ironsides thing.. As far as I know, the Constitution was just a frigate (You want a SotL go look at the Victory. :p) But as Healz pointed out it is kind of in the middle, though a frigate would have more chance against the Constitution in a fight that the Constitution vs a SotL like the HMS Victory (no matter how hard the wood, 48 guns from one side pounding you a while, and with there superb training would do some damage).

And so I figured it would be better to give the US a Better frigate as a UU than a weaker SotL. They did in fact build a couple SotL, but as there was really no need (there biggest threat would normally be the RN, and they would not have a large amount of SotL in North American waters) why build a ton? Their biggest enemies elsewhere would have been to far away for SotL to sail (Ie the barbary coast) hence the fast sailing Frigate.

The difference between the US and UK navies was that the UK went was a fleet, the US more as single vessels. They would have had no chance at all vs even the RN ships in US waters all together.

There is a galleass out there, would that work if I removed the cannons?

Sorry if this is redundant, but: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_original_United_States_frigates
* USS United States (completed in 1796)
* USS Constellation (completed in 1797)
* USS Constitution (completed in 1797)
* USS Chesapeake (completed in 1800)
* USS Congress (completed in 1800)
* USS President (completed in 1800)

In addition to these, there was the infant coast guard: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revenue_Cutter_Service to block smugglers, slavers, and unwanted advances from France.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Pickering (a brig, 14 guns)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Washington_(1837) (1 42pounder).

Other names: Surveyor, Eagle, Jefferson, and probably the name of anyone present at the signing of the Declaration of Independence / Constitution.

That's about right. Some the function of destroyers was to put a massive wave of dumb torpedos on an intercept path with an enemy fleet, and PT boats were an attempt to do the same thing, but with smaller boat.

It'd be similar to a modern naval bomber releasing it missiles 100's of kilometers away from target, and then trying to disappear.

So low :strength: with a nice promotion or intrinsic vs. bigger ships would be appropriate. Some might help with picket air defense or picket sub defense.

EDIT: They should also have a coastal/shallow water intrinsic.

Thanks.

The problem with PT boats is it is all in the PWR stat, no attack and defence, though there is modifiers for the above.

So PT boats carried Torpedos as their chief armament? They dart in, torpedo the big battleship and dart out?

Shrink it down, remove the cannons and change the sails maybe...

Hmm, Ok, I will look into that after the other stuff I have to do.

Ok, cool thanks. I wouldn't know the names of anyone really who signed the Deceleration as I am Canadian, soo.

One thing, the Wikipedia states that the Constitution is the oldest ship still commissioned, while it also states in the HMS Victory article that that one is still commissioned, and she was completed some 30 years before any of the constellation class (And was still in use too).

Ah, yes, the Deceleration... the pivotal moment in American history when the Founding Fathers looked at their revolution and said "Whoa! Whoa! Slow down there! You're moving too fast..."

Yeah, even that would be considered fast to the way we did it, which I personally prefer (Our way) but lets not get into that..)

I have been a little bit slack lately, I picked up a copy of NHL 07 for $10.00, and as it is on a DVD and I haven't got the thing to play DVD's in my PC I have to borrow my sisters. And that keeps me from working on this you know.. But I did manage to do a teeny bit today.
