Greets, everyone. Just signed up as you may notice. I very recently upgraded my computer so that I should be able to run Civ IV when it drops. The only games I've ever really played on PCs have been Civ since I first picked up a copy of the original for DOS. Anyway, I've got this nice spiffy new machine, and we're still many moons away from the new Civ. I was looking around online to see what games I might be able to get to tide me over while I wait for Civ IV... The problem is, I notice that the good ol' turn-based strategy has become a relic of the past, excepting Civ. I suck at RTS games (just don't like having to move and click so quickly) and never much cared for the shooter games. I was hoping some of you might be able to recommend some fairly recent games that'd take advantage of my new system that are in the vain of Civ. I've already bought my copy of Pirates, but it just didn't hold my interest. Any thoughts? Be greatly appreciated... :)

I'd strongly recommend CivIII. ;)

And by the way, welcome to CFC!

Thanks for the welcome. :)

Guess I should've been a tad more specific... I've got all the games in the Civ series released thus far. My old system was just fast enough to be able to crank along on Civ III. I've been playing it for far too many hours for many years now. Seems like decades... :) Just looking for something that might have some similar characteristics to the Civ franchise that may not actually be Civ. Know what I mean? :)

Yes welcome to OT shaftoe. Have you tried the Total War series? They are excellent.

Or take a shoot at the Heroes of Might and Magic series, especially the 4. It's great, it's turn-based, it's nice looking, there's aslight bit of rpg, I highly recommend it !

Galactic Civ's a good bet. :)

What about Medeival: Total War or Rome: Total War?

Both games are Civ like wherein you control large empires, set the tax rate, appoint governors, and construct armies. But unlike Civ, in both of these games you actually command armies on the field instead of just simplified combat.

You should visit http://www.totalwar.com/

Thanks for all the quick suggestions, all! I'll start lookin' at the websites for the games you mentioned and figure out which ones I'm gonna pick up when I go out to the store later on tonight. Thanks again! :salute:

Dont listen to Him, hes a Myst Player.
He'll trick you to the Dark side. :D

I recommend Panzer general 2 and battle Isle 2

I love the Sierra ancient-city building serie.

Caesar (III)
Pharaoh (+ expansion) ==> in my opinion the best
Zeus (+ expansion) ==> a lot of fun
Rise of the Middle Kingdom ==> buyed more than a year ago, but didn't played it a lot for so far.
