Can I install a program on a computer if the computer doesn't have a cd drive? I need to stick a program on our desktop computer but it doesn't have a CD drive that works. My laptop however does have a working CD drive. Can I install the program on our desktop from my laptop?
The program does NOT have a CD check.
If the desktop PC has a virus, could this allow the virus to spread to my laptop? the desktop is XP 32 bit and my computer is 7x64 if that makes a difference. Also if the desktop has a virus, it has been there for a while (like a year or two).
(I'm not sure whether or not the desktop has a virus)

Do you know how to share a folder over the network? Share the CD drive like a folder. I do it all the time with moms 'cause my CD drive is too fast for some. And then I'd copy the files to the hard drive and install it from there (its faster). Or you can just copy the CD files to a USB and sneakernet it over.

Viruses can spread over networks... Im not sure how that works though. Someone here will know more than i do.

DAEMON Tools Lite

Make *.iso, *.mds/*.mdf and *.mdx images of CD/DVD/Blu-ray discs
Mount *.mdx, *.mds/*.mdf, *.iso, *.b5t, *.b6t, *.bwt, *.ccd, *.cdi, *.cue, *.nrg, *.pdi, *.isz disc images to a virtual drive

These are the top 3 most popular free anti-virus software for your virus problem:

AVG
Avast
Avira

Or buy an external CD-DVD drive.

Thumb drives are pretty cheap too.

You can scan and fix your computer with the free version of Malwarebytes, I think. It's better than any of the aforementioned AVs IMO.

About installing the program, you can either use a $10 or $20 flash drive, the easiest option, or...

...you can upload an .iso or other image accepted by Daemon Tools to a site like megaupload or mediafire or something, and download that file with your laptop. Then mount the image, go to Computer, explore the virtual drive and boom goes the dynamite.

Another easier option would be to get an external CD drive.
