Guys, I'm a total noob at modding and like my name says, I'm on a mac, which makes things more complicated. I'm trying to modify the marine unit in two ways: (1) up the combat strength so its higher than regular infantry; and (2) to make marines upgradable to mechanized infantry (if possible).
Unfortunately, I cannot find the unit xml file to change the marine unit's stats. Its not in the vanilla units file: contents/home/assets/gameplay/xml/units/civ5units. A ctl-F search for unit_marine reveals no marine unit to modify. I then learned that the marine unit was not part of the vanilla version (its been a while) per: http://www.civfanatics.com/civ5/units. So I searched the contents/home/assets/DLC file to track down the xml/unit file adding marines. Both the DLC/Expansion and DLC/Expansion2 files seem to be the GNK and BNW expansions but neither gameplay/xml/units/civ5units files contains a marine unit to modify either.
Am I overlooking an obvious place where the right file is located or looking for the wrong file? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. if the marine unit cannot be upgraded to mech infantry, I would like to create a line of marine infantry. For example, an 1800-1920 type weaker on defense (due to historical marine unit's smaller sizes) but stronger on attack (due to higher espirit du corps/training) which then upgrades to a 1920-1945 unit modeled on the U.S. Marines (stronger attack/defense and jungle warfare against infantry due to larger unit size but weaker against armor) and then a final unit reflecting modern marines focus on combined arms (a better defense against air attacks due to marine expeditionary units' air wings, better mobility due to large helicopter/osprey forces, and better city attack due to larger infantry unit sizes). I know these are two separate topics and probably should be split into different threads but any thoughts/help would be appreciated.
