I've started a game of the Age of Discovery on Sid level (Meh, for the 9 special conquests all difficulties are almost the same) as the Dutch, and I'm just wondering if I'm playing decently, or if I need a change of plans. So far, it's 1522, and I've just gotten gunpowder off of the french for peace and some slave workers. Earlier in the game, I made a GPT deal with England for Colonization, which I traded to the Spanish for Magnetism(I had to give away a little more GPT). I now have a GPT deal with England again, this time for banking. I'm down Colonization, Naval Ordinance, and Protestantism.

Military wise, well, I don't think the situation is too good. I suffered heavy losses against french musketeers, and I only have around 4 MI left. I know I can rebuild my army, but I'd rather build banks and culture now(To make more money and avoid culture flips, respectively). I'm planning on sticking with the cheaper pikes for defense, and if I ever buy the tech to get the Dutch UU; I'll upgrade them to it. I have Leonardo's Workshop, Sistine Chapel, and Copernicus' Observatory from my newly captured cities, though Copernicus' Observatory is useless, as I'm using a 0% science strat.

So overall, I'm just wondering what someone else thinks of the situation. I'm nearly double my nearest rival in victory points thanks to the war, and I now have an eighth of the power graph to myself. I'm hoping that in my next encounter with France, I'll leave them only with Edinburgh, and then I'll slowly make my way onto Spain, and eventually Portugal, being careful that I don't accidentally jump their capitals to North America. If I feel gutsy, I may launch an attack on England, but that would probably be during the dying turns of the game. In the peace treaties, I'll get some small fishing villages in North America or Africa, and from there, get the treasure units I need to push me to victory. (I'm hoping most of my victory points will come from my war mongering. >_<)
