Nerds in Space

Laser leads to Fiber Optics (SS Cockpit) and Fusion (SS Engine) but it appears that we could research Computers instead and still get both of those techs. I think I only put one turn in it, so it wouldn't hurt too bad to switch. We will also need Superconductors (SS Thrusters) and Genetics (SS Stasis Chamber).

So we need 4 techs for our ship. Two of them require at least one more prereq, either Computers or Laser. I think Computers also gives a discount on the latter two techs, so it might be a better idea to do Computers instead of Laser.

Joao will give us Computers for Satellites and 2200 gold, also something to consider if we want to focus on only spending our research on actual SS techs - perhaps putting a turn or two into Computers would cause him to lower his price.

Qin will give us Computers for Composites, but I don't know if that is a better deal or not.

Computers also unlocks labs (+50% SS parts and tech) so it is a useful tech when building the SS.

Still unwell, so I'll make this quick.

First checked the status of our Overwhelm Doctrine.

Wow, that's easy. Just build fighters. Can do. Now, let's check the tech.

Still not a big issue. What is a big issue is unhappiness. I'll echo Whosit's frustration with the AI choosing emancipation on this map. That's just stupid.

100% growth for both of our towns. Sigh. Here's where we are.

It'll take 3 turns of anarchy to change just emancipation. Our best bet would be to UN our way, but I couldn't remember who is the secretary. The AI would probably choose something stupid, like No Nukes. That wouldn't help us at all.

Press enter and we get a revolt in Yeha. Again.

When not revolting, this city is giving us a good number of beakers per turn. So it's worth keeping.

Then this guy shows up.

I still didn't know how viable the UN path to emancipation was, so I went ahead and solved the problem here.

Happy accident.

Computers comes in. Set to Super conductors.

Then we get the stupid election.

(Emancipation was on the list. Still, we have a golden age.)

Joao gets uppity

My open markets proposal fails

Hatty asks nicer than Joao

But I feel bad for Portugal, and I give them the keys to our destruction.

Research in.

I turn fighters into gold.

One small step for China

One giant parity for all

(clap clap clap) brovo w e l l wait you guys aren't done looks like yo ugot it very esily though! my bad!

That was the quick version, Rex? :p

By the way, if you went to the Victory screen, you could probably see who was Chair of the U.N. (us). Not that a Golden Age hurts us. And I don't think that the Engineer could have fully rushed a Wonder at this point.

Fighters into Money, indeed. A good choice for an Archipelago map. Unlike emancipation. But this is why the AI is AI. Seriously. Wasn't there supposed to be a cap on Emancipation Anger?

I'm still unable to play, but you guys seem to be doing well. I might have given Joao the coal, though, since it's an older resource and less dangerous to us than Uranium! :nuke:

The plan is to crank out space ship parts, yes? Best to get started on that early and often.

Looks good, Rex :goodjob:

Pretty sure I mentioned in my report that we were the UN winner, but like Whosit says, a golden age is still a positive thing for us. :cooool:

I think Bindamel would be up again now, right? There should be time for him to pick it up and play, my best playing times this week are going to be towards the end, Friday and Saturday.

You two are both discounting my ability to blindly do stupid things regardless of how well others lead me to do otherwise.

Plus, I had strep throat while playing. Hope the save isn't contagious.

Are we looking to build all available parts for the SS? Or a minimum? If we are doing a minimum, what are we cutting out?

Have any of the AI started building parts yet?

it depends on the tech order. The second engine, if we research fission last, is useless. Each thruster shaves two turns off of our journey. With production as awful as it is, I imagine we won't build all thrusters. Casings are a must, though, in my book.

Or maybe it won't be Tuesday or Wednesday. We had a delightful little minithunderstorm here on Tuesday, and I was without power from 5 P.M. Tuesday 'til about 3 A.M. Wednesday. I wasn't able to play last night, and tonight and Friday are right out, as they say. If anyone wants to play before the weekend, jump right in, otherwise I'll pick it up then!

I can play some turns tonight unless you were planning to, Bindamel. Please just post a "playing now" or something if you start so I know to wait until afterwards, or we can swap and you can pick it up after me for the weekend. :)

January, 1945 AD - January, 1955 AD

We learn Genetics, I set Fiber Optics for additional SS parts

Started the Stasis Chamber in Rome

I put up Emancipation for vote in UN - it passes, surprise surprise

Started Life Support in Mecca

China has completed a Casing

Sold Replaceable Parts to Boudica for 160 gold and her map
Begged 360 gold off Sitting Bull

Our golden age ends

Fiber Optics comes in, set Fusion for our last SS part

We get a bad event - civil unrest in Rome. Our mine gets destroyed.

Hurry the labs in Medina and Mon Calamari, then also in Absurd and Yasodharapura

Sitting Bull asks us to quit trading with Joao - I don't really want the diplo penalty with him but I also don't want to deal with Joao refusing to talk so I decline

Started Thrusters in Yasodharapura, a Casing in Absurd

We are third in power

Vote for UN chair comes up again between us and Joao, I vote for us - we win

I decline a defensive pact with Boudica again

We complete our SS Life Support in Rome, start Docking Bay

China completes another Casing, then tried to get us to gift him Genetics

Joao has also completed the Life Support

Hurry the Hospital in Mon Calamari and the Observatory in Massawa - my rush buying has drained a lot of our cash

Fusion comes in - set research down to 0 to rebuild some cash reserve, and put in Laser again as a placeholder. We have a great engineer from Fusion. Not sure if we should just settle him or what, will have him rest in Rome for the rest of the turnset.

Start a Casing in Mon Calamari

Sitting Bull has now also completed Apollo

China has completed a thrusters and a life support

We complete our Stasis Chamber in Rome, start our Engine - chopped a forest into it

Joao has completed the cockpit

Hurry the lab in Massawa, start our cockpit there

Put up the vote for open markets in the UN vote which fails

Laser comes in, set Robotics

We have 50 million souls

I have our highest production cities working on SS parts

China is our current competitor in the space race

We have two parts completed, but as you could see, several on the way

And the save ~

So I guess, any time a part completes just slot in a casing to follow so we can get those done. I should have put in another casing at either Medina or Yasoharapura instead of that second thruster - I don't know what I was thinking :smoke:

good job. Looking at the save, I have the following thoughts:

  1. we now have all required techs. That's great. Joao is down three SS techs, but will have fission next turn. Qin is down two SS techs. As long as those two don't trade with each other, that should buy us about 10 turns. Our production seems worse than theirs, though.
  2. I do not believe we have the right cities working parts. Absurd will finish its casing in 39 turns. I don't think we have 39 turns. Also, we have our life support (I think) in a 40 hammer/turn city. That will take 34 turns. I think we can probably manage production better than that.
  3. It might be wise to assemble a fleet of death for use in case someone launches first. Enough battleships/destroyers to take out either Qin's or Joao's capital defenses in one turn. Enough carriers to airstrike the defenses to half, and enough transports with troops to just raze the city, recalling the spaceship.

Bindy, do you still want to take this? I can play today or tomorrow if you don't want it.
