Nerds in Space

Another set of just pressing enter a few times and moving a boat around.

Now I only know two things about Star Trek so I invited them to tell us all about the set...

7 of 9: Now the major thing of note was that research is on Iron Working, ETA 5 turns. Now what....

Ozbenno:  Um, hi.

7 of 9: Yes, what is it?

Oz: Did I do OK?

7 of 9: I guess, as I was just saying, Iron Working is a good...

Oz: It's just that, aahhh.

7 of 9: Speak up human, what is it?

Oz: Well, I was just thinking it must be hot in those tight uniforms, surely it would be better if you slipped into something more comfortable to give your report. :please: :groucho: [pimp]

7 of 9: Does this help?

Oz:   :twitch: :spank: :whipped:

7 of 9: Good, as I was saying to you Ozbenno, we should be looking at...

7 of 9: Heh, up here fella.

Oz:   :twitch: :spank: :whipped:

7 of 9: Fine, here's the save, good luck with that.

Hey, I don't think that was a regulation starfleet uniform...

I'm late, but I really liked this one. Took a bit to get, though.

And I hope this gets into the late game, there is one joke that no real Star Trek fan would miss late game.

Why do I get the impression that Ozbenno wsn't really thinking about the game?

Let's see how I can drag us further astray...

The next faser prototype:
Spoiler :
Faraway Absurd Settled. Establish Ridikulus.
Spoiler :
dork2a0000.jpg

Spoiler :
Swopped builds around. Knocked out three settlers (one on a shuttle heading into danger). Whipped a library in MC. Lost a galley to barbs. Sank two barb galleys. OB with Sally. Bud has spread to Antium but we haven't conversioned We have ivory! Soon we will have copper. Iron is a more distant dream. Went IW>hunting>alphabet for no particular reason.

I'm always a fan of the extra trade routes. But we should consider it. Resources seem a little sparse on this map, yes? But Construction first might be wiser if we want to attack sooner rather than later.

The boss didn't repost the roster, but methinks I'm up.

Glad to see I put together a self-sufficient team. :goodjob:

Leaning towards construction, I guess

I guess I'm having a little trouble imagining the overwhelming utility of elephants on a tiny islands map, but I guess we gotta kill people with something, right?

before I commit to something really stupid

There are no stupid commitments, only stupid people.

Well, for the Star Wars fans, giant four legged things are an essential part of any army.

AT-APs: All Terrain Armored Pachyderms! ;)

Hehe, Bantha herds! Just watch out for the sand people....I heard they're nasty.

So are annoying marketing gimmicks, wooden characters, and dialog lacking any sense of spontaneity.

Oh, and ever since Whosit's ATAP joke, I keep enivisioning Luke using his lightsaber to cut an elephant's belly and toss in a grenade. That'd be way cooler than Legolas surfing down the trunk after he thwunked an oliphant between the eyes. Goddamn f--ing Peter Jackson, give me back the scouring of the shire and Tom Bombadil!

High Ranking Empire General: Situation Report!
Measly Toadie: Sir, the citizens of Mon Calamari are revolting!
HREG: Oh, you've been there too, then?

revolting.jpg

HREG: Have we spotted the rebels yet?
MT: Yes sir, and our work boats and galleys mining droids and shuttles have been very busy spying on them on their lush ice planet of Hoth.

HREG: Lush ice planet?
MT: Had to make it work for the AT-AP joke, sir.
HREG: I see. Actually I don't. But we have AT-APs? That's great.
MT: Actually, we needed math, construction, and horseback riding for eleph, er, AT-APs sir.
HREG: So we can build a death star, but we can't do math or construction?
MT: If you recall sir, we did build it with a straight ventilation shaft all the way from the core to the outside, sir. A little more research might have been in order on that.
HREG: And we need horseback riding to allow people to drive giant mechanical four legged creatures why?
MT: Excellent Question, sir.

I played this yesterday, and had a mental list of what to tell the next person, and have forgotten it all.

We're one turn from construction, and can start building cats next turn, but still need HBR for Oliphaunts.
Saladin has monarchy.
I used the settler to found a city on the island just west of Saladin (Hoth Base Camp); I wasn't sure if the intention was to found on the iron to the south of Saladin, but that's going to be an expensive city to found if we do.
I found a little passage to the west of our position, and have a galley trying to connect the two sides of the map.
There is a Great Merchant in the capital who will give us Currency, or we can settle / trade mission.
There is a barbarian galley chasing one of Saladin's workboats through our territory. We have a galley shadowing it, as well.

Most importantly, there is a worker standing on a forested silk tile, idle. In one turn, he can convert that tile to a cottage, clearing the forest, if it seems like a good thing to do.

I'll never defend the newer films, and I don't care to defend Lucas's marketing ploys . . . but I still feel that the original films had a very nice quality to them and that the cast had great synergy. Oh, and the 2003 Clone Wars mini-series was pretty darn good, too. But what else would you expect from the creator of Samurai Jack (and Dexter's Laboratory, apparently)? The new series is awful.

Oh, and it would be cool to see Luke slice open an elephant.

Also, got it.

Hopefully you'll remember what you needed to tell me! Hmm, what to do with the Great Merchant. Bulbing Currency? Doesn't seem like an awful decision. Trade Missions can be very nice, but it might be too early to get a very large return. Settling is, what, 1 Food and 6 Gold? That could help ease our deficit a bit at this point. Don't know.

I'll try to actually look at the save before I start playing. :mischief:

I agree completely. Empire is still in my top 5 movies of all time.

The new series is awful.

I don't know. I still enjoy them. They're just aren't Star Wars as I (a kid who grew up with 4-6) know it. I think they could have been had Lucas only provided the basic outline and let someone else write the scripts. What was campy in the original became painful in the prequels. My $0.02.

That's always a good point. Things from one's childhood almost always retain a certain magic.

Though, regarding the new Clone Wars series (the computer animated one), I've seen a handful of episodes here and there, and I suppose what I dislike the most about it is that it really just seems like a generic adventure show with Star Wars painted over it. To me, at any rate.

I saw one episode where the Jedi made first-contact with some aliens on an ice planet. After a misunderstanding (during which many people died, yay!), things were set right and everyone was happy. I also saw an episode that focused on some clone troopers defending a base, but it felt like a very generic "army pals" episode. I also think that the new stuff has taken "I have a bad feeling about this" a bit too far.

Does this count as a thread hijack if the game is called "Nerds in Space?"

Definitely not threadjacking. I also love the Star Wars 4-6 and thought that 1-3 were just ok. I'm waiting to see a debate on which Star Fleet captain was better - Kirk or Picard :mischief:

I haven't looked at the save yet either, but my vote would be for currency with the GM. I think it would really help us now when we need it, and the extra trade routes would likely be more beneficial in the long run than the 1 :food: 6 :gold: but please keep in mind I am still a noob so maybe you guys would have better reasoning for one of the other uses that I am not yet aware of.
