Nero02-no science - Emperor

Figured I’d see what I could draw. Random world, random barbarians, random opponents, and normal aggression. I picked France as our tribe.

First draw I get this:

Nero2.JPG

In case you can’t see there is a bg under the settler and gems under the worker. I hope you all don’t mind I moved the worker but figured that would be what we do anyway. If we take this one I think we should settle one south of our start position. I hate to settle on a bg. I do see plains to the south though.

Out of curiosity should we all draw a start and pick between them?

Here's the 4000 BC save.

I'd settle on the spot, nice to have the wheat in the capital. I'd also consider building cities three tiles east of the start and two tiles north of the gems.

I'll roll a start as Iroquois...

Hmm... settler factory, anyone?

I prefer Methos his start as it has a GH and lux.
I would settle 1S or 1E.
South will leave more room on coast, east will give irrigated wheat faster.

I would move south too, it will give teh hills and there´s a forest which will be welcome for a settler farm. What about roster, keep this way or do we need to switch some players?

Moving south on Methos's start would be in order I think

Road and mine the 2 river BGs, Irrigate the third + the Wheat.
But we wont get to +5f while in Depo, so Irrigating the BG will allow us to work a hill and stil be at +5f in Republic. Maybe do a Warrior-Settler 4 turn factory @10spt

CC (1) + 2 Mined BG (4) + Irrigated BG (1) +Wheat (0) + Hill (4) = 11spt @ size 5
So that should work thru 4.5->5->5.5->6 without problems

Mathias's start does show 2 forrests for chops but has less hills more plains, tho we are not going for 20K.... So it doesnt really matter.

Neither start is a SF in depo, both are in Republic.

Methos has the lux going for him
Mathias has the +Food going for him fromt the start

Irrigating the cow straight off (I found) will give a (near) perfect Warrior-Warrior-Settler start.
It will be a while before we are at +4f (or even +3f) on Methos' start.

@namliaM: You might as well try your own luck. That way we all have options. Just a thought.

I like mine due to the lux, but food will be a problem. It would be at least 10 turns after founding before the wheat comes into our radius. Unless we move closer, which I don't think would be wise. Mine also shows a lot of good terrain around us with the addition of another river.

Mathias has much better food and we can grow a lot quicker. With his we will be able to expand faster too, and much sooner.

I can't remember what Nerovats was like so can't comment there.

Mine was wurthless compared to the both of you.
I usually don´t roll this many starts. I take what I get, except when playing on deity/sid I want a good start. For some reason never play DG.

Nero's is not that good a start, but then again in TGOTM we didnt get a good start either AND as the Americans....

Might make it a bit more fun to pull a less than perfect start...
Lets try COTM 12 I think it was the Arabs in the desert?!

I prefer to play a map I don´t know. It´s kind of cheating if you know where the resources are. A questionable start would add to the level, but no research already adds to that as well, so might be a little to much. In nero01 we played random empreror with also a no more then average start, but happend to find 4 luxes, a cow and wheat nearby.

Iroquois are agricultural, so the city will give +3 food, and irrigating the cattle will give an additional +2 food. With all three BGs mined, we have:

Size 3: +5 food, 6 shields
Growth to size 4: +8 shields, 14 total
Size 4: +5 food, +8 shields, 22 shields total
Growth again, settler complete.

I don't really care which save we play.

I let the decision to the rng gods and it´s the iroquois.
I´ll start us of in about 12 hours, or someone else could lead the way when able to play sooner.

4000BC
settle in place get map from GH, 2 more wheat!
science to 0 :D
3950BC
irrigate the cow, can use both weat for other cities, to have 2 4 turn SF and a 2 turn WF.
3750BC
warrior->warrior
up lux
3550BC
warrior->warrior
up lux
3400BC
warrior->warrior (3 scouting, 1 MP)
3350BC
up lux
3300BC
warrior->granary
down lux
3200BC
run into GH, get barbs
just 1 attacks? war promotes
3150BC
another barb attacks no promotion
3050BC
run into another GH, yet angain barbs
barbs move towards capitol
3000BC
kill one of the barbs

Granary done in 2, 3 warriors scouting. There a 2 barbs coming from the north to the capitol.
Propose to settle blue (SF)next then pink as wonder city, then red (WF)
Could do with piramids, as we should expand quickly

So what is the roster?

Oh yeah, even though we are not researching we should still set our F6 choice to the cheapest tech. You will not pop the tech you are researching from a GH. I'd suggest we set it at CB since I believe it is the cheapest one.

Let's just keep the signup roster:
Nerovats
Mathias
Methos
namliaM

Good point about thescience didn't think of that. I almost forgot about the no science and instictivly went for writing.
