We greet the new nation of europe, and in hope for better relations, propose a 5-turn NAP.

From: Incan Empire
To: Portugal

The world opinion is against you and your troops have suffered significant losses in return for only minor gains. There is no way you will be able to defeat us in the Andes so we suggest peace in order to save the lives of countless Portuguese and Incan soldiers.
We suggest the following terms:

  • Portugal will pay the Incan Empire 3m nuevo sol (3 eco points) for their unlawful invasion
  • Portugal cede parts of the eastern Amazonian Basin to Peru to compensate for damage caused to our lands and to give us a secure bufferzone
  • Portugal will allow the Federated Kingdoms access to one of their Brazilian ports as appreciation for their help in ending the war
  • Peru will allow the Portuguese navy access to resupply in Chiclayo
  • Portugal and Peru sign a 10-year NAP
  • Portugal and Peru will release all prisoners of war

We think the terms very fair. Will you agree to them? We are willing to send diplomats to meet with yours if we can agree on where to hold the negotiations.

Genevan Patriotism

"This has to stop!" yelled Josef Leu to his advisor. "The Swiss people have to stand united if we are ever going to rise from the state of stagnation in which we have been thrown at! We cannot allow these religious battles to continue!"

"Yes.. we have already ended all possibilities for cantons to make some sort of "special pacts" with other cantons of the same religion. What more can we do? Perhaps increase religious tolerance within the cantons?"

"Yes, that might work for now. But for how long? What we need to do is to create a 3rd party! One that has no religious tendencies, one that believes in religious tolerance! And one that has army on it's side! They will obey the government and they will stop it if the religious strife with force, if need be! This new way of thinking shall be called Genevan Patriotism, for it is the only "

As the advisor left the room, Josef looked out of his palace window, to the streets of Geneva. With disgust he thought of the stubbornly religious people who he was supposed to govern to their greater destiny. If only they knew what was coming to them..

***

Soon, in the name of patriotism, the military tradition in Switzerland was changed. The disclipine grew much tougher, army service time was prolonged.

"To ensure the safety of our nation, we need soldiers who believe in this government - in ME - rather than in some silly religion! We want machines, not humans! Keep that in mind!" Josef Leu was heard explaining to one if his generals. Meanwhile, he did keep his promise of increasing religious tolerance by law. Switzerland had indeed come to a turning point in it's history.

To Incans
From Portugal

Your terms are laughable. We may not be in the best position now, but think of your economy. We are fighting in your heartlands, while ours are thousands of miles away. Instead we suggest:

Portugal will pay the Incan Empire 1m nuevo sol (1 eco points) for their unlawful invasion
Portugal cede very very little parts of the eastern Amazonian Basin to Peru to compensate for damage caused to our lands and to give us a secure bufferzone
Portugal will allow the Federated Kingdoms access to one of their Brazilian ports as appreciation for their help in ending the war
Peru will allow the Portuguese navy access to resupply in Chiclayo
Portugal and Peru sign a 10-year NAP
Portugal and Peru will release all prisoners of war
Peru will apologize for their insult before the war.

Very similar to your own. Until we are loosing this war, we won't think of more.

OOC: We have plenty of diplomats in Europe seeking favor at various courts. It is quite clear that we have heard of it from the diplomats there. Adding to this we will have heard that the European states who oppose the Ottomans have recognized Hungary and thus it is a logical step from there to also recognize them in order to carry favor with the European powers... the very powers that we need to be on the good side of.

It is not the information age, but with every turn being one year then we WILL know this. It is not our sphere of influence, but it is in our interests to be on the good side off the major powers and by doing this we will gain goodwill from them. That is what leadership is about. Doing whatever is necessary to accomplish our own goals.

Moreover, your point is hard to understand since Turkmenistan actually sent a message to Peru asking for assistance in the war against Persia and FK. Doublemorals?

To Swiss Confederation:
From Hungary:
We thank you for your recognition.

To Holy Roman Empire:
From Hungary:
We thank you for your recognition, and would like to accept your NAP proposal. However, before we can do so, we must inquire as to the future of those portions of Hungary which are currently under Holy Roman administration. It is the desire of this nation have those portions of the Lands of St. Stephen returned to their rightful Crown peacefully. We hope the Empire understands our position, and can accept this.

To Ottoman Empire:
From Hungary:
Three bounties is more than we can afford at this point in time. Remember that our economy has been burdened for three hundred years by your domination, and bent to the breaking point during this War of Independence. We can, at most, offer you two bounties, to be paid over the next two years.

OOC: And yes, it was me.

For Portugal:

OOC: an apology after you said you were looking for any reason to start a war? :p

IC: Your terms are not acceptable. We have explained that the insult from the document was due to translation error. However, we will not let mere pride stand in the way of peace. We will send a member of the House Royal to Lisbon to apologize to the king for the mistake, but in that even we will want 2m nuevo sol rather than the 1m you offer.
Will this be acceptable to you? The rest of the treaty is agreeable to us.

We are not ready for an alliance just yet and a navy is not really that useful since we don't have any sailors :p

Maybe a compromise though. You have technology and knowledge we lack. Send people to teach and train us in those things and we will retire our financial demand.
(OOC: I'm looking for the knowlegde to get into middle industrial age rather than early.... but don't know if it can be done this way.... das?)

Capac was lying at the edge of a steep cliff looking down on a Portuguese camp. While there were many enemy soldiers in the region and they possesed superior weapons, they just didn't have the same ability to fight in the mountains as the Incan warriors did. The European army might have the advantages of numbers and technology, but they had learned that it mattered little when fighting in the Andes. While Incan casualties had been high, they had still managed to kill 2 europeans for each of their own losses.

Many Europeans had been captured when they fell into ambushes. Several times had Capac worked on preparing traps, triggering avalanches which cut off the passes, trapping the enemy troops. Upon seing Incan soldiers occupying the higher ground and having no places to hide they had surrendered in droves. Even so, the number of soldiers who kept coming seemed endless.

There was little news from the coastal regions, but word was that the enemy had taken one of the Incan cities and then barricaded themselves there surrounded by the Incan army. They seemed reluctant to break out of their beachhead as they had started to fear the mountains. Capac was pleased. While they had retreated out of the Amazonian area, it was all according to plan. Several traps had been set when they retreated and the Europeans had suffered for it. Now, their advance had halted though as they had reached the mountains and sought open passages that hadn't been blocked by the Incan army.

Looking down on the Portuguese column he quietly waited until they reached a specific point. Then he lifted one arm and a relay was quickly sent down the lenght of the canyon to waiting troops. Triggering explosives they started an avalanche which showered the Portuguese with rocks. As the dust settled Capac saw that several enemies had been killed with the rest milling about. On both sides of the canyon Incan troops fired of a single salvo against the enemy and then ducked back into cover.

Soon, they would give the Portuguese troops a chance to surrender. Should they refuse the Incans could signal artillery further back and start to rain down death on the invaders. Capac hoped it wouldn't be necessary though. Not only because he didn't want to cause unnecessary deaths, but also because shells were expensive and problematic to move through the mountains. Regardless of what happened the Incans would capture more of the European weapons. Soon, they would have enough functioning rifles to equip a division or two with them. That should increase their firepower significantly.

Capac smiled. This war was almost too easy to win. He just hoped he wouldn't have to face the European troops in open battle.

each turn.

@ das, could you show me a map of those territories inside HRE's borders which are hungarian?

Uzbekistan will be expanded from Dalnorossia's proposal. Since it will remain as part of Dalnorossia and not an independant state we feel all of Uzbekistan should be included.

OCC: Sorry, what? The modern borders of Uzbekistan in the OTL have little bearing on the ATL distribution of prior Uzbek/whatever states and disribution of 1863 Uzbek populations.

IC:
We will review the situation, is there any thing Dalnorossia could offer on behalf of our Uzbek peoples in exchange for the city of Bukhara?

OOC: Dunno, I figured the PoD was later than the Siege of Vienna. Is there a full history somewhere?

The PoD was in early 17th century, in Muscovy (Poland managed to temporarily conquer Russia, though Siberia broke away under the Stroganov merchant family, who lead refugees there; Poland later broke apart, but not before changing the outcome of the 25 years war; much of it was reunited later on though, even if Muscovy remained independent after the collapse).

I believe it's been started in the Alternate History thread...

No, owing to my laziness.

OOC: Das, the Sikh state right now is in Kashmir, not in Punjab as we agreed. Punjab is further south west, where there is a Y in the river, and it does not border China.

Its not in Kashmir (well, parts of it are...). Although, maybe I did get cities wrong, but in that case, blame goes to NK et Panda for doing the rivers wrong on the map.

I'll try to change things, though (give Sikhistan more land in SW, less land in NE).

Did the certain area that will become OTL Walnut in Southern California get destroyed by conehead's troops? And how are the Japanese doing with their lack of sushi?

Not only was it looted and burned in a most hideous manner, but it didn't even exist. And the Japanese fishermen still do, at night, make daring blockade runs to go catch the ingredients for sushi, thus ensuring that, with strict sushi rationing, the Japanese people don't have to switch to other types of food.

OOC: Is Muscovy still active?

It should be - tommy sent orders last turn.

Any word on my project das? (It should be 4/6, seeing as how it got a bonus turn in 1862)

4/6 it is, then.

OOC: When do we get the eco points by the economic centers? this turn or next?

Every turn.

@ das, could you show me a map of those territories inside HRE's borders which are hungarian?

No, go find the OTL division map yourself! :p Or have GM point out what exactly does he want...

Das, I'm currently in Early Industrial... if the Portuguese agree to send engineers and other workers will that then (combined with the fact that I have people studying new technology in Europe and have captured quite a number of Portuguese rifles) be enough to move me into middle industrial?

In other words... with the efforts of my own people in going abroad to aquire skills combined with captures of modern weapons and Portuguese help be enough?

No. But it'll help.

OOC: Right then :)

Since we can't really use the ships you generally offer due to a lack of sailors, we will accept your offer of 1m nuevo sol if you will also send trained personel to help upgrade our industry, military, agriculture etc.
