Use the word 'Wo' instead of 'vere'. Irritating Yankish way of butchering the German language. :p

Anyways, the update will come eventually. So, no need to worry over small delays.

The force that is supporting Sweden is, indeed, not Poland. Nay, it is much more evil, much more wretched than that! It is so utterly evil, so dark and menacing that it could only be called... [CENSORED BY POLAR BEARS]

Not too much left now. Well, am probably lying, but I'll definitely post it today, no more delays.

It is so horrible, so wretched, so mind-boggling it could only be called... Portugal!

(two wars left to do, one of them is almost done for now)

that was NOT expected

I'm so excited.. and I just can't hide it!

That had better get the spotlight !

That DOES get the spotlight. Am working on it right now.

well that will keep the HRE and FK occupied for a turn, or two.

Why FK?

And don't worry, you are occupied as well because I was in an evil mood and didn't tell you about a glaring mistake in your orders.

Well, Sweden did prepare for that, though personally I doubt that it will work.

In the other news, update is cancelled. NES closed. Actually, posting the update now. If you can read this text, you will be considered a penguin spy and dealt with as such.

Update 4 - Year 1864

Non-Military Events:

Californians have lots of problems raising new forces, having lost many vital regions (-5 divisions).

The provisional Mexican government was moved to the city of Acapulco, and Vicente Guerrero took command of the Revolution (+1 Civilian Leadership, +5 irregular divisions).

The Portuguese-Incan War ends anticlimatically, as the Portuguese, coming under foreign pressure, paid out the reparations and ceded a nominal bit of Amazon rainforest to Incan Peru (-1 Portuguese Confidence). This sudden Incan triumph has also caused a sudden rise in separatism among the Amerinds in European colonies in South America, especially southern Imperial Neugranada [1] and the northern Plate [2] (-1 Federate, Imperial Culture [3]). Attempts to modernize the Incan Empire, however, failed thus far - the expected foreign assistance didn't come, and the plan seems to be too ambitious to carry out without outer support.

In Sweden, the Riksdag suddenly gained actual power (although the king still retained much power where it mattered), turning the country into a parliamentary monarchy.

Geneva evolves into an economic center, thanks to new ties with France and Italy commerce-wise and the revitalization of cookoo clock ( :p ) and other industries (+Geneva economic center).

After a well-planned propaganda campaign, the Polish government managed to win back some support from the Autonomist movement (+1 Culture). The reforms, however, stirred up controversy - if the conversion to a parliamentary monarchy wasn't too badly received, the abrupt abolition of serfdom caused lots of problems - many nobles actively protested (some even resisted by force, and had to be arrested) and the agriculture in the eastern provinces was badly, if temporarily, damaged (-Kiev economic center, -2 Confidence). The abrupt end of Polonization of Prusy left the Poles already there in a very uncertain situation as well...

Hungary gained independence from the Ottoman Empire after it came under the diplomatic pressure of the great European powers; although not all of the historical St. Stephen's Crown Lands were recovered, that alone is quite good. A parliamentary monarchy was declared, with Lajos Kossuth as regent until a king is selected.

Turkish military is building up dangerously - both for nearby countries and for the Turkish economy (-1 Economy)...

Dalnorossians organize several measures to improve the economy of the entire country (+1 Economy). More stuff still is likely to come - particularily, the Central Asian city of Turtkul seems to be a potential agricultural and commercial center...

By the Treaty of Bandar-e' Abbas, former Greater Turkmenistan is partitioned between Persia, China, FK and Dalnorossia, though the Turkmens in the annexed territories don't like it (-1 Persian, Chinese Culture).

Shiraz is largely rebuilt and once more flourishes (+Shiraz economic center).

Gradually, more and more trade is attracted to Siam, as tax breaks for merchants who trade in foreign lands are provided. This is likely to have more radical effects further on... On the other hand, the government is making rather improbable demands of the provinces, demanding that each contributes 10,000 men to the army. A few revolts had to be put down, the confidence in king Phra Ram Ti Ha sunk (-1 Confidence) and the economy is coming under a huge strain as the army is doubled (-1 Economy)...

Rumours of gold spread like wildfire across France - gold, this time, in the islands of Terra Australis. The masses are skeptical, but a few desperate/opportunistic people already agreed to move there. And others might follow...

Military Events:

French forces in the Greater Mexico suffer badly from an awful buerocratic mistake. No supplies at all were sent, and the French forces, already overstretched and undersupplied, faced the Californian and Mexican armies, equipped with the best that can be acquired at the black market these days and spurred on by their high morale. Guerrilas raided French supply routes and assassinated French officers, while the "regular" troops defended their cities to the death and struck out by themselves. The French army being what it was, though, it still did have some successes - even though they had to evacuate la Californie, they have decisively stopped the Californian March to Texas at the small village of Albuquerque and pushed them back some, later retaking San Diego as well; in Mexico Proper, Matamoros and Mexico City itself were seized before the Mexican Federacion Infantry could stop the French onslaught and defeat the ranceros (pro-French guerrilas). French casualties, naturally, were awful as the large army used simply couldn't live off the ground, but possibly, the tide shall soon be turned on the rebels once more.

(-16 French divisions, -9 French Garde Imperiale divisions, -3 French irregular divisions, -7 Californian divisions, -4 Californian irregular divisions, -7 Mexican divisions, -5 Mexican irregular divisions, -2 Mexican Federacion divisions)

The Gaelic Rebels make their last stand - in the Highlands, not in Ireland, as the Irish leaders suddenly declared that they capitulate to the Federates, in exchange for amnesty for all the Gaels in Ireland and, rumours say, certain political concessions. Several important Gaelic leaders were turned over to the authorities by the Irish as well, including the Welshman David Owen, the man responsible for the Gaelic sabotage, assassinations and other covert activities on the Federate side of the front. William Ross, the head of the entire rebellion, took personal command in the Highlands, harassing the advancing Federate forces with the help of the local population, which was much more diehard then the Lowlanders. Finally, after a series of costly skirmishes, William Ross shot himself and his officers soon raised the white flag. The Gaelic Rebellion, or the British Civil War, is over.

(-Gaelic Rebels as a faction, -2 Federate divisions)

Holy Roman Empire Is Under Attack!

(see spotlight)

(-1 Imperial Confidence, 1 Imperial Economy to Prussia, +5 Swedish irregular divisions (pro-Reichstag volunteers))

(-4 Portuguese divisions, -2 Portuguese ships, -11 Imperial divisions, -4 Imperial Sturmtruppen divisions, -5 Imperial squadrons, -12 Swedish divisions, -7 Swedish Berserker divisions, -3 Swedish irregular divisions, -9 Prussian divisions)

The French had also re-invaded Madagascar, landing at Toliara and easily pushing the Merinas out; however, the aforementioned Merinas continued raiding the French from the mountains, which, combined with the previous buerocratic mistake that denied supplies to them as well, demoralized and weakened the armies of France. Diseases wrecked havoc on the Europeans as well. Still, with a (barely-functioning, admittedly) seaborne supply route and elite forces, the French, in spite of fierce resistance given even by the civilian population, managed to advance well along the coast.

(-5 French divisions, -1 French Garde Imperiale division, -2 Merina division, -1 Merina Battle Engineer brigade, -4 Merina irregular divisions)

Karamurad staged a brief comeback in Persian Turkmenistan, the so-called "Fifty Days" during which he, in a series of daring maneuvers and ambushes, inflicted unexpected casualties on the Persian troops. Still, eventually he was betrayed, overwhelmed, captured, escorted by 40,000 soldiers to Shiraz and publically executted.

(-2 Persian divisions)

The Chinese have slaughtered the last Japanese defenders in Kyushu. The island of Shikoku fell soon after. The assault on Honshu itself followed, but not at all flawlessly - the Japanese decided to make a desperate last stand, and the swiftly-assembled fleet from the northern shipyards managed to defeat the Chinese fleet at Noto, preventing a seaborne landing in west-central Honshu. Although the other two lands - in the southwestern Honshu and in Edo - went unblocked, the Japanese resisted fanatically and only barely did they give ground. Emperor Hitsuji eventually fled for Fukushima as the Chinese hordes overran the southern half of Honshu as well, but the very fact of Japan lasting so long is enough of a frustration for the Chinese as it is.

(-8 Chinese divisions, -7 Chinese squadrons, -1 Japanese division, -14 Japanese irregular divisions, -11 Japanese squadrons)

(1 Japanese Economy to China)

Siam declares a war on piracy [4]! So far, so good - the pirates in the coastal waters were practically eliminated, if at the price of a few good ships.

(-2 Siamese squadrons)

Random Events:

Patriotism and religious tolerance are widely propagated throughout Switzerland (+1 Culture).

Incan victory against Peru is widely celebrated by the Inca's subjects (+1 Culture, Confidence).

Ardashir's personal participation in the reconstruction processes in Persia inspires the workers (+1 project progress). And indeed, Persia is recovering anyway (+1 Economy).

Tsarevitch Alexius comes to power in Muscovy in a military coup d'etat, and the people, both loyal commoners (+2 Confidence) and wise advisors (+1 Civilian Leadership) rejoiced. The army is reformed (+1 Army Training).

Nationalism flourishes in Poland (+1 Culture). Popularity of the Liberal movement declines, while the King's grows ennormously with the promsied reforms (+3 Confidence). However, corruption spreads as the aforementioned reforms are widely abused (-1 Civilian Leadership).

The Federates manage to win the hearts and minds of the Gaelic masses (+1 Culture).

Chinese New Year is celebrated throughout the empire, even by the minorities (+1 Culture).

Muhammad Ramat of Sokoto becomes ever-more popular among the people (+1 Confidence).

An anti-industrialist movement in China systimatically sabotages economic development and industrial production (-1 Economy).

Polish roads suffer from neglect (-1 Infrastructure).

Droughts damage the Ottoman economy (-1 Economy).

A desperate campaign of individual terror by Gaels and Irish American colonists caused the disruption of regional Federate government (-1 Civilian Leadership).

Spotlight:

The Holy Roman War.

"So... This is the man whose name shall forever live in infamy..."
- Kaiser Friedrich IV. When shown the portrait of the Swedish king. Year 1864.

Ever since it came to be as a modern centralized state, the Holy Roman Empire was under constant threat from almost all of its neighbours. Eventually, some learned to live in peace with it, but others - France, Portugal (due to South America), Piedmont, Sweden and Poland - remained hostile to the Reich and on this basis formed a single alliance.

Time went on. After the Nine Years War, the HRE lost many lands to most of the French alliance. Still, it remained a giant, albeit a sleeping one, sleeping due to the adoptatition of a parliamentary monarchy and the emergence of a powerful new conservative elite that was opposed to any strenghthening of the Kaiser, even if it meant the strenghthening of the Reich as well.

All that was to end with the coming of Friedrich IV to power in 1857. By then the HRE was definitely stagnating, the popularity of the Reichstag was sinking and North German nationalists managed to build up a powerful organization that couldn't quite be destroyed when Friedrich IV DID persuade the Reichstag to look into this. Frustrated by this and extremely popular in the army after the formation of the Sturmtruppen and the reconquest of Venice, he dismissed the Reichstag with scarcely a shot being fired, in 1863.

On the next year, the Holy Roman War begun. It begun in the small city of Potsdam, where an angry mob headed by local nobility - the Junkers - threw the Imperial officials out of their residence's building. Soon enough, the rebellion spread like wildfire throughout Brandenburg. Slightly to the north - in the Swedish city of Stralsund - the more discontent members of the old Reichstag formed a new one, the infamous "Stralsund Reichstag" or "Imperial Government-in-Exile" that condemned Kaiser Friedrich and called for a general rising, all over HRE. Both the "Junker" rebellion and the Stralsund Reichstag with supporters were coordinated by the Swedish government. On May 1st, as the Imperials begun their counteroffensive, the Swedish army has finally crossed the border into the inner regions of Germany, for the first time since the Twenty-five Years War, a defeat that the new Swedish king was eager to avenge. As did the entire nation.

Spearheaded by the new oddly-named "Berserker" divisions, the Swedes moved in into Imperial Pomerania and Brandenburg. Meanwhile, a sudden influx of soldiers came to Brandenburg - the soldiers of the new Prussian army that were being prepared for this hour for some time now. The Imperial forces were at first spread out throughout the Reich, and thusly failed to do much to stop the Swedo-Junker forces from taking Berlin and advancing to the Elbe. By then, lesser rebellions sprouted up in Hannover, Saxony and Rhineland, in support of either the Junkers, either the Reichstag.

The Imperials by then recovered from the shock, regroupped and set out to restore the rightful order in the rebellious northern provinces. But before they could do that, Sweden, just as it was feared by some, had found itself an ally. But the ally wasn't a one the Germans were expected. The French did not reach out for the Rhine. The Italians did not assault Venice. Hell, not even the Poles tried to link up with the Swedes! No. Portugal was the one to attack the HRE.

Disgraceful Portuguese defeat in the Incan-Portuguese War did nothing to calm down the Portuguese king; if anything, it made him more eager for action, as that seemed to be the only way to recover his prestige. And what could be a better target than a weakened, distracted colonial power with a small navy? This was FAR better than Peru, the Portuguese king knew it. He was so excited he forgot to order any supplies for the troops again, but his advisors remembered the Peruvian debacle and diverted some of the funds towards logistical support.

And so, the Portuguese fleet heroically annihilated the Northern German Fleet, based in Bremen, just as the city was seized by the forces of Sweden. All serious supply and communication routes between HRE and Neugranada were cut. The Portuguese forces, some even moving from the Incan territory that they didn't fully evacuate until then, made some modest overland gains, but the seaborne "city-hopping" campaign easily overwhelmed the surprised, disoriented and quite small garrisons, allowing the Portuguese to quickly secure all the important coastal cities there.

Back in Germany, the Prusso (the Junkers renamed Brandenburg into the "Kingdom of New Prussia", as many of them have immigrated from Polish Prusy and also looked back to the good old days of the Teutonic Order)-Swedish forces clashed with the cream of the Imperial forces at Eisenach... and were defeated, as the Sturmtruppen outflanked them and forced a large portion of the army to surrender. The rebellions in Rhineland soon ceased. But on the other hand, the Imperial invasion of Brandenburg was stopped at Torgau, while the Swedish forces succesfully reached the Rhine from the north, having established a temporary protectorate in the name of the Stralsund Reichstag in Hannover.

As Autumn drew to a close, the Imperials launched yet another offensive, this time along the Elbe, to divide the Prussians and the main Swedish force in the west. In spite of early successes, the Imperials clearly still haven't recovered compeletely from the early shock - coordination problems arose and in the end, the Imperials were forced to fight their way back south, to avoid encirclement. But this might the last Swedo-Prussian success in the Holy Roman War - the Imperials shall soon be able to strike back north, and the FK has all reasons to intervenne in this war on the Kaiser's side. On the other hand, if that does happen a new war on a global scale is almost assured... and its hard to say who could be the likely winner of that.

NPC Diplo:

From: The Sejm (the szlacht, more precisely)
To: The King of Poland

We demand immediate compensation for the reckless destruction of the institution of serfdom!

From: The Stralsund Reichstag
To: The World

We ask you to recognize us as the legitimate provisional government of the Holy Roman Empire.

From: The Stralsund Reichstag, the Junker Rebels
To: France, Poland, Italy

We request your assistance against the vile tyrant Friedrich!

OOC:

[1] Imperial Neugranada is HRE's colony in South America. Its southern regions are OTL Ecuador.

[2] The Federate Plate is the FK's colony in South America. Its northern regions are OTL Bolivia.

[3] Yes, I know that Neugranada and the Plate aren't too important on the scale of the Holy Roman or, to an even greater extent, Federate empires. But the dissent there is combined with developments back in Europe (remaining Gaelic resistance in Great Britain, Scandinavist agitation in Denmark-Norway and the chaos in HRE) and in Federate case Asia (integration of newly-conquered lands).

[4] The pirates recently complained about professional discrimination at the hands of a lightbulb penguin who, according to them, keeps attacking piracy in all the NESes he joins. Why can we all live in peace (and occasionally steal stuff from each other)?!

You can't grow irregular divisions with eco. points, Kal'thzar.

Texas Toast, are you still playing?

BananaLee, no "Suez Canal" exists in this world. There were some projects for it, but none got far.

Kal'thzar: and may this be the lesson to all of you who forget to invest into logistics.

andis-1: and may this be the lesson to all of you who forget to say where which of your troops are located in the orders!

Update! YEY!

Which city is Turtkul?

@Ottomans: Why the enormous military build up? Surely you are not planning a repeat of your earlier vicious expansionism! And after we thought you had changed...

OCC: Paranoid much Iggy? ;)

It is nearing finish. Probably.

Which city is Turtkul?

The city that just popped up in your part of Central Asia (on the river).
