NES2 VI - Last Semblance of Order.

Rome, Meeting of the Papal Enclave

There was an odd number of Cardinals for this very reason. For days, the Enclave had been deadlocked between two candidates. One, an Italian from Florence, the other a Portuguese man from Oporto. One man was now going to be the sole decider, one Cardinal from Sardinia who had been selected to this Enclave at the last minute....a choice made purely because the one in his place had suffered a heart attack and died.

The reasons for thier selections was clear. An Italian cardinal would bring instant credibility towards the Papal attempts for a unified Italy. The man was known as a charismatic statesman (and was not even 50 yet) but with a clear disdain for the policies shown by Pope Innocent XIV. He was once quoted as saying,"If Papal security can only be secured by working with heathens, then I would rather have no security." when questioned about diplomatic ties with the Ottomans.

The Portuguese man was obviously a neutral candidate. Portugal itself had been largely neutral, an ally to Spain but not a very public one. It kept largely to itself but made no real enemies doing this. The same for this Papal candidate. He was an aging man who had been a Cardinal for over 40 years of his life. He definately had greater experience, and would cause no controversy with his selection. A nice, safe, pick.

All eyes were on him. Angelo Braschi was a levelheaded man, but this kind of pressure wears away on even the mentally toughest of men. Beads of sweat trickled down his wrinkled face. Right now his eyes were covered, contemplating the decision.

A Cardinal from the end of the large rectangular table spoke,"Braschi, half is in favor of Corzetti, the other half for Rodrigo. Your vote is the deciding one." Braschi faked a grin. He knew this already...why did Cardinal Giovanni insist on pounding it into his head?? HIS decision would mark the path of the Papal States, Italy, and Catholicism.

Braschi stood suddenly, opening his eyes and wiping his forehead clear. Sweat had stung his eyes so he wiped them to be able to survey the Enclave. "I am sure you men are all tired of this by now. As you know, I am the deciding vote. This is what I have decided to do." Braschi then took out a coin, placing it on his thumb, "heads is Corzetti, tails is Rodrigo. Giovanni, call it in the air!"

Official Statement from the Papal Enclave

After weeks of deliberation, the Enclave has decided upon the new Pope, the new leader of Catholicism.

Tomorrow, the Italian born Cardinal Zerano Corzetti will be officially titled as Pope Leo XII.

Don't Papal elections require a two-thirds plus one majority to confirm a Pope? Hence the weeks of deliberating and speak-making so it doesn't just come down to a coin flip :lol: ?

Leo XII huh - I hope for your sake he does not resemble the OTL Leo XII!

Also @das do the ATL Papal elections still have the "Right of exclusion"*...and if so which nations have it? Just throwing the idea out there :mischief:

*Certain Catholic nations are allowed to veto one and only one candidate in the the selection process.

Yes yes yes, but they made a special concession in this case because it was taking to long and people were becoming restless with the rule of the Cardinals...

Funny, because this cooperation and friendship thing isn't listed under an alliance. And once again, Shove it Kentharu.

As friends of both the French and Ottoman Empires the Mughal Empire entered the war as a response to blatant Afghan agression. Too many times has Afghanistan attacked not only the Ottomans but the Mughal Empire in the not so recent past. To ensure there is no further Afghan agression the Mughal Empire will continue military operations until the Afghan Khnate agrees to come to peace terms. Should the Afghan Khanate refuse peace it will be destroyed.

The non-agression pact as mentioned by our brothers in Sennar is null and void due to Afghan agression.

OOC:

but the Kingdom of Ireland, which is technically at war,

No, the Oireacthas vetoed the very declaration as well.

Hence the weeks of deliberating and speak-making so it doesn't just come down to a coin flip?

Do note that this time the Papacy went for nearly a year without a Pope. They had plenty of time for deliberating, speach-making, secret deals and intrigues before this. ;)

Not sure about Right of Exclusion, can't find anything about it in Britannica... Up to Azale, I suppose.

No fair.... you said i could define the government and said in the first story Parliment has control over FUNDING for all projects, the king had control over
Chip said:
the King had control over was Diplomacy and the IRA and IRN[1]. He could establish colonies
So I can sign treaties and declare war and make troop movements without parmilentary support. They can choose not to fund it, which i thought is what you ment they did. So no troops get sent, but the declaration of war is still very real. And i know your not supposed to argue with a mod, so i apologize

Oh, and you still haven't changed my education to Academic

i could define the government

The point of parliamentary monarchy is that the parliament still does retain some veto power, you know.

It wields that power in the form of controling the funding for everything. All funding must go through them. This is based on Irelands historical Parliment that was formed in the middle ages and was a factor until they were incorporated into the British Parliment in the 18th century. Btu seeing how in this althistory Ireland was granted independence while the Irish Parliment was still in power, i assumed that it had been kept in the change over. So thats what i have been basing everything off.

Das, i have sent you legislation i would like the Parliment to vote on. Also, The Irish applaud the Afgans decision and are glad they didn't have to send their armies ramaging through your heathen lands;)

King Badi IV commends the Afghan nation for accepting France's fair peace terms

Daft go to your thread now pleeeease i SEE YOU!!

Speaking of thread responses I hope the update gets here soon, kinda boring while waiting for your country to form...

TREATY OF VIENNA:

Section I

I- This Treaty restricts Bulgarian MIlitary forces from Entering and administering any of the Serbian Territories.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Iosef von Dunkelheit
Grand Chancellor of The Union of Krakow
(awaiting the Russian Delegation to sign the Treaty)
So you restrict me from aiding my brothers. Why do you restrict me from bring order to this tumultuos nation. I do not seek to put the entire land of Serbia under a firm grip. I say that the Balkan states must have some say in this treaty. I only wish to help and yet you portray me as a devil who wishes to emplace all of the Balkans under a tyrranical rein. I seek no such future. I will not protest any further. But I believe it is Serbia's descision to allow who enters and leaves their borders and not foreign dignataries, hundreds of miles a way. I just believe Serbia has control of Serbia and who can aid it and no others should influence. May I state once more, Bulgaria does not seek the annexation and utter control of Serbia.
To Bulgaria:
From Krakow:
The Czar signed the treaty, if you have any problems deal with the Czar. Besides there is no need for bulgarian forces. The Russian army is capable enough.
To:Sweden
From:Bulgaria
Due to the recent peace, Bulgaria would like to secure matters with your country. We ask for a defensive Pact. We also will be kind to ask that you may send troops to aid my nation in training my army and/or sending shiprights to aid in building ships. We ask kindly for a quick response.
To: Finalnd
From: Bulgaria
We know of your recent move to independence. We acknowledge that you can probably not spare anything in need to build your own country. We mearly ask if you would like a NAP or defensive Pact. Whichever one you wish to take is your descision. Good luck in your Nation's construction.
