NESCraft

THANKYOU!

I've added some trait options to the bottom first post. I may add some more after the next turn. I think, during these early turns, if I am adding new trait options, I will allow everyone to change one of their picks.

Anyone who wants to re-re-pick traits, please feel free ^^

I will make a list of active players and their equipment, acquired skills and traits - I think I should probably wait until after the next update though, due to the above.

NEXT UPDATE CAN BE IN ~30 hours IF ORDERS

EDIT3: Is there enough bamboo leaves, twigs and small shoots left over from constructing my hut that i could weave a mattress inside the hut (while i wait for the tiger to move on for a bit)

Sorry, yep you will need to go outside to get enough leaves etc.

Sporadic favouritism is a virtue of any mod. Thanks for the bump daft (I assume for gender reasons?).

EDIT: could I request extra vision for being on a hill?

I may do that starting next turn. You are however surrounded by hills on three sides. You can see far to the west, but it seems to be one big open plain.

OOC: No prizes for guessing that 'fire in the southeast' is

Spoiler :
Nintz

Does anybody know if bears can climb trees?

Bears can climb trees in this world too.

I can't really imagine why someone wouldn't take Energetic, the chance of +1 actions is OP at this stage of the game.

This concerns me too. For now, I have downgraded the effect to give a bonus only 1/4 of the time.

The game is not about winning, friend.

Indeed, since it is all kinda unfair anyway. I like the idea of this being a sandbox type game, albeit with some harsh sudden deaths here and there.

Which it would appear I'm bad at. Not a single mouthful of food in a day and a half.

Some compounded bad luck / dice rolls I'm afraid. I don't want to make it seem like hunting = bad. There are a few more risks to go with increased payoff, especially if you could keep other animals away from your kills.

Interesting link about early human hunting and how things might appear faster than humans. They aren't! Over longer periods of time, we're faster, since we're stamina runners, not sprinters. We're actually quite able to chase things down with an evolutionary superiority before tools were ever invented. The documentary exemplifies Siberian nomads as a modern example of this evolutionary benefit. It's crazy to see what the human body is actually normatively capable of. Just a FYI, I don't think it translates well into this game terms (it's much more fun when we're weak) but perhaps a Seasoned Runner trait thingy could work, allowing people to better escape predators/chase prey? Sprinter? Guts? Runner?

EDIT: J.K.Stockholme's Athlete suggestion might work very well.

Thanks for this, I will keep it in mind! However, note that all deaths so far have been ambush attacks. I do think prey like rabbits can sprint away and hide, and goats are very sure-footed over difficult terrain. On the plains it could be different.

I'm not feeling a specific trait for fast running. We already have a slim athletic body type. Maybe tie this in with the Energetic trait, so its not a dead weight half the time?

I like the new traits. I think my reincarnation will be an explorer/waterborne.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. I only have 2 AP this turn though, so I don't think I can explore outside my view. I'll try to make it to the border and hope for the best.

I say we try to reach the pine tree near just south of the geese. Sleeping in the tree might protect us from the geese while the geese keep the bear at bay.

Omega

I would like to change Charm to Waterborne if you are implementing trait change this turn

1 AP on turning some stones into Stone Tools
1 AP on using Stone Tools to finish building clothing. If possible, save a tad of Hide to turn into a belt at a later date.
1 AP on going to the river and fishing yet again
1 AP on sleeping by the fire

Free actions: Gather mostly stone and some sticks; stockpile it at my campsight. Turn on fire at night and cook the fish. Eat by the fire.

@Omega124:
Sleep is not a free action.

@tuxedohamm: Agreed! Let's build this village!

ooc: Is Stone Tools an object? I thought they were divided in eg Stone Knife. Possibly misread the OP. EDIT: Yes I did.

EDIT: Wait, tuxedohamm. I recognize that you're female.

I am pretty much already expecting there to be red-haired, red orange-eyed people ruling this world.

EDIT: eye color

OOC: Wait, isn't red hair a recessive gene? Or whatsitcalled, a gene that isn't as strong as brown hair, eg, and therefore often disappears upon birthing.

I don't recall.

That makes me wonder how Daft is going to handle human children in this NES. What genes are they inheriting from what parent? Are they inheriting skills too or are they required teaching? In Pokémon (lol) breeding within the same egg group will produce a Pokémon of the mother's species with the skills of the father.

I think the ideal would be to simply go 50/50 for each of the parent's visual attributes - hairstyle, eye color, hair color, skin color... Or perhaps skin tone and hair color could meet at the middle. Skills would be something that needed teaching. (Needing AP.)

Hair color could be inherited from both parents, but at the same time, certain colors tend to dominate with just one gene. If one parent has black, a the other red or possibly blond, and child with black hair wouldn't be uncommon, IIRC.

Skin tone should be a mix, I think. Other traits should be taken from the parents/grandparents factoring in recessive/dominant if Daft wants to get into that whole thing. However, I don't think a 50/50 mix is quite right, so much as, say, flipping a coin for each trait. Therefore, someone could look just like their mother/father, but more likely be a mix.

Is shagging a free action? Or perhaps one could not bother to make any effort and just get it over with? Does it cost extra AP to get the woman off?

Do both mates need to be human in this world? Or is that just something that we need to test for ourselves? Are there any sexy pandas near Pandaholme?

EDIT: i mean more sexy than the usual pandas- so let me rephrase:

Are there any particularly sexy pandas near Pandaholme?

I'd like to change Energetic to Ranger.
I am the lord of the beast! Now watch me be eaten this turn.

1 AP: Meditate on keeping safe from the dangerous animals.
1 AP: After carefully moving to the pine tree just to my south (giving wide berth to geese and bears and anything else scary). Collect the lower branches of the tree and build a nice campfire to keep warm by.
1 AP: Sleep in the pine tree to try and keep safe from predators.

You're an Artistic, Charming male. (Unless you changed traits, and I missed it.) You gotta woo me, buddy. :p

EDIT: Also, can one person collect enough food for multiple people? I assume yes since I wouldn't be able to eat a whole deer by myself.
