NESLife attempt #3

Spoiler :
Socivalion Mrk III: Grombar
Evolved from: Socivalion Mrk II
Genes (23): Plankton Eating x2, Flesh Eating x2, Swimming x2, Vibration Sense x1, Eyes x2, Pressure Resistance x1, Brain Power x2, Skeleton x1, Cartilage x1, Jaws x2, Fangs x1, Communal Behaviour x3, Parenting Instinct x1, Gills x1, Cold Resistance x1
Description: Some socivalions started to go deeper and deeper into the cold water regions of the world looking for more food and more places to raise their young, and along with this was a greater need to stay with the pack. Most food was brought back to the community to eat and larger groups of them stayed together helping to ensure that more and more eggs made it to maturity to join the community.

Socivalion Mrk IV
Evolved from: Socivalion Mrk III
Genes Added (Max 2 + 1 bonus) Swimming x1, Gills x1, Flesh Eating x1
Genes Removed: None
Description: The socivalion was at the top food chain, or at least it thought so. Over time it just kept getting better at what it did. Its fins underwent a development that allowed greater speeds in the water, its gills preformed better and it got more energy from its primary food source (flesh). As its abilities got better it started actively attacking other predators instead of just the weaker herbivor's and plankton eaters.

OOC: Couldnt think of a better name so its stays for now. Anyone can evolve off my guys for now, though I may take that permission back from the terradid come next update depending on what road I decide to take.

Yes, but civilizations are so brief in evolutionary terms... unless they become utopian, in which case they will persist for several eras.

Blatant use of others ideas. Descriptions for Kingdom and Phylum "stolen" from those who already wrote them. Lord Iggy and North King.

Kingdom: Animalia
This group contains all Dibblers, Blobsters, Suckys, Nitros, Finners, Worms, Bathyscapers, Yuckius, Omi, Garbage-Eaters, and Planktonus.

Phylum: Chordata

Subphylum: Blobsterum
This phylum includes nearly every chordate on the planet, and thus almost every swimming creature as well. It can be traced back to a common ancestor known as the Blobster, which then split into two evolutionary paths. Despite this very early split, convergent evolution seems to have adapted both lines in similar ways.

Class: Dentochordata

Order: Fangsterus
This order contains the ancestors of the Fangster and the only surviving order of the class Invertebrata

Family: Spikeus
This family contains all the plankton consuming members of the Fangsterus order. Members include both the Shellsterus and Rocksterus genera.

Genus: Shellsterus
All members of this genus are recognized by their hard shells and bouyant nature.

Species: Velenapod
This species is the first of the shellsterus genus to metabolise poison for defense purposes.

I was about to mention that Ghostrex thing, until I noticed that you did. Its closest living relatives are the Cool Rockster and the Shellster Spitezepod, and almost all of the other animals are roughly equally distantly related (or should I say, non-related).

Ok you made this great when I wasn't paying attention. I wanna join.

edit: North King I will be using your Landavalion if you accept.

Evolution Template:
Scalavalion : Luckymoose
Evolved from: Landavalion
Gene added (max 2): Scales x1, Digging x1
Gene removed (optional, max 2): Swimming x1
Description (optional): A more scaled creature than its predecessors it no longer swims or gains food from the water. Instead it uses digging to its advantage to ambush small critters. As well as use burrows to give its young a safe start. The scales give a protection while in the open. But usually they stay in the safety of small tunnels.

Will this be ok Daft/North King?

The Dark Ages of the Universe

The years after the Spitezepodic era, while a time of massive diversity and bounty on Delta Panzerus, were a truly dark time for the rest of the Universe.

The ancient Intergalactic Council, which had for the most part maintained peace and stability throughout most of the known universe, was destroyed. The organization, which had survived several massive wars and hundreds of millions of years, which had solved the mysteries of the universe, which had been so much of a pillar in the universe that it had nearly gone unnoticed- was swept away.

How did this happen?

The fact is, we do not know. What little can be gleaned follows. The Ascended, the artificially evolved and psychically adept representatives of each intelligent species, the figures who communicated over the boundless voids between the planets and stars, disappeared.

How this happened remains a mystery, and a source of much speculation. The surviving myths are our best leads. Some suggest that they became corrupt, and gradually ceased communicating in order to focus on using their godlike powers to further advance their own interests. Many suggest that their psychic perfection became so great that they all simultaneously ascended from the dimension (it is from this belief, I suspect, that our name for them comes from) Others, including me suspect that they were destroyed, by some outside force of horrific power.

This belief seems to be justified by the fact that just after the disappearance of the Ascended, most of the known universe was struck by a massive attack. With our near-omnipotent protectors, this may have been nothing, but without them, the universe was practically defenseless. The invaders' origins remain as mysterious as most events of the time, though we today know of them as the Sok, the Reapers.

NOTE: Of course, due to the either poor, or exceedingly rare, records of this time, it is possible that the Sok attack was the direct cause of the demise of the Ascended. But I cannot spend all of my time on unbased speculation. Please refer to several books in the bibliography.

The Sok flowed across space like a waxing tide, destroying all civilization that it could find, and destroying all open resistance. Once all of the former settled worlds of the universe were scoured, the Sok disappeared as inexplicably as they first appeared. Only ruins were left in their wake.

Well, not quite.

Many planets remained intact, and of those, most of them still had some amount of surviving complex life, and in an exceeding few, intelligence survived. Some hid in cryogenics chambers deep underground, tiny energy emissions hidden by the burning furnaces of the planetary interiors. Others survived in the depths of space, protected by its sheer vastness. And in a rare few planets, new intelligences evolved from the surviving animals.

Over millions of years, civilization crawled its way back up. Societies recovered their knowledge, returned into space, built empires, and continued to grow and develop. This pattern continues to this day.

I will be among the first to admit that in the eyes of the Ascended, we are less intelligent than bacteria, and more primitive than all but the crudest tool-wielders. Civilization still has a nearly-unimaginably long path of recovery before it once again approaches the miracles of the bygone age. For now, no all-powerful overarching government exists. Our races fight and squabble with one another, and technology advances with painfully ponderous steps.

Perhaps I overestimate the ways of our predecessors. Perhaps we are already near, or in excess of them. But once again, this is just speculation.

Now, the backdrop to the modern galaxy has been set. It is time for my story to begin.

@Luckymoose- But the post counter says you have two posts in this. You can't have found it just now.

Or did you go on vacation and only get back around now?

I didn't join originally because it didn't look as fun as NESlife 1. But he has made it awesome.

Hello? I was suggesting that once sentient beings appear, this NES be converted to a (rather unusual) fresh start! The world will have a detailed description of all lifeforms for future reference, the map looks awesome, and it will be a fNES, which is my chosen field. :D

And it kind of scares me that you checked Luckymoose's post count. :scared: Do you do that kinda stuff often?

Do you know the function that shows how many posts people have made in a thread? Just click on the post count of a thread from the Never Ending Stories subforum.

@SS- Perhaps that could be done as a side game.

Of course I know of it. But I never use it to check if people actually just joined or not. How many times do you check post counts in a thread in a year? :hmm:

I don't often do it, but I was sure that Lucky had posted before. So I used that system to check, rather than sifting through over 1000 posts. It was the most efficient method.

If you say so... ;)

Cloaking.

I use that function all the time...

Spoiler evolved from :
Packcult: Lbaeldeth
Evolved from: Bloodcult
Genes (16): Sucker x1, Piercing Spikes x2, Fluids Parasitism x2, Parasitic Tendrils x1, Parasite Metamorphosis x2, Mass Reproduction x2, Immunological warfare x1, Stinging tendrils x1, Hormonal Usurption x2, Spines x1, Pack Hunting x1
Description: The Bloodcult parasites continue to improve their control over their hosts. Infested creatures now seek each other out, being rewarded with chemical release of 'feel-good' hormones when near other creatures mutated in a similar fashion to themselves, as the Bloodcults experience a greater success rate of infestation when more than one host attempts to attack a target.

Infil-cult: LBaeldeth
Evolved from: Packcult
Genes Added: Regeneration x1, Acid Resistance x1
Genes Removed: Stinging Tendrils x1
Description: In response to their new placement on the dinner menu, the parasites began to evolve anew. With their membranes slowly becoming resistant to acids, pieces of 'cult can survive in a creature's stomach for some time - sometimes long enough that their emerging regenerative abilities allow the pieces of tendrils to regrow into new parasites, which attack, infest, and then control their former hunters from the inside. To encourage this new avenue of attack, the stingers in their tendrils gradually faded away - not that they seemed to have much of an effect on their attackers in any case.

Thanks again, i think thats enough species for another update... I will start working on it, but there is 24 hours left to post any more evolutions.

I promise I will mention every new species this time, if only briefly, to say how they are getting on.

@Lord_Iggy, i loved your story, but it was quite enigmatic... How exactly will it relate to this NES i wonder? :)

I still have that question "Should it be leaping Finner or Stalking finner?"

Sorry for the slow response... I think leaping could be a nice way of getting around. If i remember right, the Kangaroo has one of the most energy-efficient modes of transport of all animals. And of course here are animals like frogs that also make use of it.

Maybe, leaping can be good for a fast reaction, quick get-away, and can be good for moving around generally, but not so great in a long chase - IE a fast walker (runner) will always beat a hopping creature in overall speed. I imagine that hopping/leaping will also be much harder for larger, heavier creatures.

Will this be ok Daft/North King?

That is fine with me, and seems North King agress with it too. It seems you want to remove some of the 'plankton eating', is it ok if i do that? And thanks for the compliment :)

Yes! Leaping Finner is in existance! Also, Community life+Camuflaze+leaping=bad day for the predatore who ends up in a pool of quicksand and suffers concussion/truma
