NESLife VI

Every organism that has existed, ever!

Wow. Bravo, Lambda. That can't have been easy. Props to you, sir.

I just noticed, every species with an eye has gone extinct along with all of its descendants.

Have we completely wiped out visual species on the planet?

All extant members of the Orata and Maves clades are visual species.

Great to see everything together. Thanks Lambda, via Iggy! I miss those towers...

@Grandkhan that includes the branch descended from the Orator leading to the Skitterers. I believe this ocean is rather cloudy and difficult to see in, especially below the first few metres, so eyesight hasn't been such a killer advantage.

Not true the spiracul have stalk eyes.

EDIT: Grrr, beat to the punch.

I'll grant there are grounds for potential confusion in this case. The other half a dozen instances where this has happened however... Really, is it to much to ask that people take that one extra minute to fact-check their 5 minutes of effort?
Fair enough.

Despite frequent turbidity, eyesight still confers.several significant advantages. Also, it seems that the excellent paeticipents in this NES have beaten me to the punch- phyla Orata and Maves are both visual.

Also, excellent work Lambda! Paint me impressed, and it seems that I was too gloomy about how long it would take to integrate the images!

Spoiler :
Organism: Tybiller
Description: A thickly-armoured desiccation-resistant terrestrial grazer with 10 articulated legs for swift locomotion, a tracheal system for gas exchange, jaws and two primitive stalked eyes.
Niche: Visual armoured, amphibious omnivore.

Eddoria Mutation

Organism: Estabil
Ancestor: Tybiller
Selective Pressure: Increasing competition for food due to increasing isolation resulting from the mountain ranges forming between Okianus and Eddoria.
Mutation: A small number of the tracheal openings have breached into the stomach. Some control over the flow of digested food has allowed to re-purpose some of the tubes to nutrient absorption before depositing the remains out the underside of the Estabil. The primary benefit is no longer having to wait to continue eating, allowing Estabils to hunt for more food more quickly.

Oh, an here is another possibly a lot less useful expenditure of my time. I have added up each organisms progeny. Thus we see the strong divide between the three initial groups, and who of those have be especially strong in passing on their genes.

I have secretly been waiting for people to start doing side projects like this. ;) Thanks for that! :D

I'll be able to edit my "Full tree" picture easily enough. I've not yet worked out an easy way of keeping that table up to date. So that might just be a one off!

It could probably be done with an excel spreadsheet, which could keep track of numerous stats. I've brainstormed a lot of things I'd /like/ to do, but have opted to not do in order to avoid overburdening this NES. As I've said a few times before, I am aiming for a constant downward trajectory of update quality, in order to cancel out my tendency of 'NES Bloat', so that I may maintain consistent quality and update speed. ;)

It's possible that he meant the Ground-Grasper, but that's for thomas to decide. At any rate Masada, you've got yourself to blame for the confusion. :p I expected this would be the end result of your giving two closely related but different organisms nigh-near identical names.

That's the one. My apologies! :P

Well, my epic tropical tree idea can wait for now. Time for some filter-feeding action.

Organism: Zipper
Description: A motile, olfactory predator with a digestive tract, nephridium, slimy skin, primitive tetrahedral skeleton, accordion-like lateral gills, a primitive circulatory system and a ribbon-like tail for swimming.
Niche: Olfactory swimming generalist.

Organism: Flitter
Ancestor: Zipper
Selective Pressure: competition for plant and animal prey, while suffering ambush from Shredders.
Mutation: plankton-catching mouthparts. A rapid pulsing of the fleshy outer mouth draws liquid in and out of the mouth, where particles are caught in hardened comb structures within [perhaps a mutation of the existing spiky parts around the mouth]. The combs regularly contract to rub against the mucous-coated inner mouth, which passes food particles on to the digestive tract.

By specialising in plankton as a food source throughout its whole life-cycle, [it is hoped!] the Flitter can survive in the vast open ocean, avoiding the crowds and the threat of ambush amongst the shallows and algae growths.

Luask should be zero if I understand this chart correctly.

Organism: Spiracul
Description: An armoured terrestrial grazer with 10 muscular, articulated legs for swift locomotion, multiple peripheral hearts in an open circulatory system, nostrils and primitive lungs, jaws and two primitive stalked eyes.
Niche: Terrestrial armoured omnivore.

Organism: Ileum
Selective Pressure: The simiple digestive system of the Spiracul meant that it took a very long time to eat and so it was difficult to build up substantial reserves of fat that would keep them alive when food was scarce.
Mutation: A digestive tract that allows them to process food faster.

OOC: Permission to stop trying to evolve the Abyssi, and try my hand at something else ?

You are allowed to evolve anything you want. No one "owns" a particular species.

Absolutely, you can evolve any extant organism you'd like.

@Patchy- My guess is that he's speaking tongue in cheek. If not, bonefang, what gave you the impression that you were limited?

I would like to know how photosynthesis is happening in an ammonia environment. Among the by product is sugar.. I recall the work of a mr. calvin, and this confuses me .
I have known of chemo-synthetics that uses H2S, but ammonia, anyways . . .

The rough outline is on the first page. I haven't fully worked out the alien biochemistry, as I'm afraid it's a bit beyond my knowledge of chemistry. Roughly speaking:

'Animal' life absorbs hydrogen to break down nitrogenous sugar analogues into methane and ammonia, releasing the bond energy of these sugar analogues. Solar energy enters the system through photosynthesis, where 'plant' life converts atmospheric methane and ammonia into nitrogenous sugar-analogues through photosynthesis.
