FORT SUMNER, New Mexico - A mouse got its revenge against a homeowner who tried to dispose of it in a pile of burning leaves. The blazing creature ran back into the man's house, catching it on fire.

Luciano Mares, 81, of Fort Sumner said he caught the mouse inside his house and wanted to get rid of it.

"I had some leaves burning outside, so I threw it in the fire, and the mouse was on fire and ran back at the house," Mares said from a motel room Saturday.

Village Fire Chief Juan Chavez said the burning mouse ran just beneath a window of the house. The flames spread up the window and throughout the house.

All contents of the home were destroyed, he said. No injuries were reported.

Haha!

.

God, what a jerk. Trying to burn a mouse alive? I don't care if it's not sentient; that's a downright disgusting way to try and kill a living thing.

Well, as long as nobody's lost a house by burning tomato worms with a magnifying glass, I'm still okay.

There are a lot of weird people in New Mexico, maybe it's from the summer sun and residual radiation from atomic tests. When I lived there, I knew a guy who bragged about having a pet black bear.

I'd say karma came back and bit him in the ass immediately for not killing the mouse with a shovel or something before throwing it in the fire. It is a really funny story though...

That's like last year's top "Most Peculiar Story" on MSNBC's list of... Most Peculiar Stories.

I say good for the Mouse. Id wager it survived the blaze and then made Chuck cry by giving him a wedgie.

Karma Rules! I am a partial believer

That was my first thought as well. Everyone knows you only burn dead mice!

Hilarious!!!
My dad pointed this out in our Dallas Morning Newspaper.
A man was burning leaves outside his house. He had found a mouse earlier that he wanted to get rid of so he threw it in the fire. Dumb move. The mouse caught fire and ran back to his house. The house burned down and everything in it!

A mouse got its revenge against a homeowner who tried to dispose of it in a pile of burning leaves. The blazing creature returned to the man's house and set it on fire.

Luciano Mares, 81, of Fort Sumner, N.M., said he caught the mouse inside his house and wanted to get rid of it.

"I had some leaves burning outside, so I threw it in the fire, and the mouse was on fire and ran back at the house," Mr. Mares said from a motel room Saturday.

Elsewhere in the dry Southwest, more than 60 wildfires were reported across Texas on Sunday, but most were contained to 30 acres or less, fire officials said.

Jim Caldwell, a fire information officer for the U.S. Forest Service, said the biggest fires included one that scorched about 150 acres in Cherokee County.

Another fire in Wood County burned 70 acres before forcing the evacuation of several homes, he said.

Several residents of Ashley County, Ark., were evacuated Sunday when a 3,000-acre wildfire spread 6 miles long, destroying four homes and four other structures. Arkansas saw at least 43 fires, the state's first widespread outbreak this season.

The mile-wide fire burned east of Hamburg, an official said, and it likely would be today before firefighters were able to control it. Firefighters from four volunteer departments used 11 dozers and two airtankers to fight the blaze.

For those animal lovers I must say that I am terribly sorry this happened. But it's still funny.

That's what he gets for trying to kill something for no reason. He should have taken the mouse to a field or forest some distance from his home and let it go. I feel no sympathy for him and laugh in his face.

Can anyone say "Caddyshack III"?

:rotfl: sux to be him
