For my mod I'm adding at least 4 civs. I have

-Mongols
Militaristic Expansionist
Leader: Genghis Khan
Unit: Mangudai, the Mongol horseback archer, 2/2/2m replaces Horsemen

-Spanish
Religious Expansionist
Leader: Queen Isabella
Unit: Conquisitor, replaces Musketman but am not sure on the stats, right now it's 2/4/2. Musketman is 2/4/1, French Musketeet is 3/4/1, I could make Conquistior 2/5/1, but they are "conquerers" and need to be offensive.

BIG QUESTION: Unique units add 1 point to attack/defense/move. Simple unique unit "rule" that sometimes forgotten, but for general balance can you take a point off a stat to add to another? Would it be balanced for my Conquistor go from basic Musketman 2/3/1 to 5/2/1?

-Celts
Friend recomended Militaristic Religious
Leader: Beats the bloody hel out of me! William Wallace?!
Unit: As above. Friend suggested a Cletic Warlord that replaces the Knight.

Last civ...I dunno! No clue what to add!

Forgot, kicking around that 4th civ as a peaceful South American Indian group. Maybe Incas or Mayans? No clue as to leader/unit let alone heros/cities!

Off the top of my head, for a Celtic leader you could try Brian Boru, probably the only effective high king of Ireland and the one who defeated the Vikings in Ireland, or maybe Robert the Bruce...who may (not sure) have played a larger role in Scotland's independence than Wallace. (You could also try Asterix...but the majority of Americans wouldn't get it...) :)
For a unique Celt unit you could go with a Gallowglas - a fast, heavy, medieval/renaissance period (I think) Scots/Irish foot soldier, or a Kern, a lighter, faster Spearman-type. A druid could be interesting, but I don't know how it could feasibly be implemented in Civ3.

ANY help is useful! Have any stats in mind for those units? And what do they replace?

For the Conquistador, consider making them have marine attack ability or alpinism. I think special units are better when they can do special things faster, not when they simply alter the stats. For the Celtic leader, what about the ones from Civ 2? OR alternately, Conchobar etc. from the Tain (get it out of the library or order Thomas Kinsella's translation, it is the most kickass cattle-raid primitive war story ever). For the "South American Civ", of course it has to be the Inca, definitely give them alpinism, and use the list of cities that is hiding in the city name list of Civ 2 MGE. Just my two cents...

You wanted a name for a celtic leader
Cu Chulainn would be a good choice, not that you've ever heard of him I guess. He was a 'glorious hero' from Irish mythology.
Or you could go for Conchobher, a ledgendary king of Ulster.

Cheers

I'd certainly like to see the Inca or Maya as Civs, Central/South America doesn't have enough representation in the game.

...thanks for the help! Now when I said "leader" I meant the Cletic Leader units, but any and all of the names supplied will help! Now who do you think should be the Civ leader and who are the leader units?

Hi, you have some pretty nice choices for civs, but for that last slot I would like to see either the Phoencians or the Huns. The Huns are easy all you have to do is give them the rider as their unique unit and give China a different unique unit, as for their traits I guess military and expansionist, and of course their leader would have to be Attila the Hun. Bleda would definitely be a candidate for a leader (the unit), but besides that i don't know any other Hunnic great leaders.

The Phoencians OTOH are much more difficult I can't think of a king right know, but I'm sure i can find one in of my history books, a unique unit for would have to be a naval one maybe brireme(I think they invented it) or just something called a Phoencian Warship(it would replace the Galley) the stats for the warship could be 1.1.4 or 2.1.3. bonuses aren't to hard for them Commercial and Expanionist.

Oh yeah for a unique unit for the Celts I think a Woad Raider (sorry if it's too Age of Kings for you) would be the best choice it was pretty much the main unit of their army in ancient times it could replace the warrior and have stats of 2.1.1. William Wallace is a good choice for leader of the Celts.

The Mongols might be able to pull off a Religous trait with Militarisic. Fire, water, and wind were sacred to them if you were accused of doing something bad to one of these elements i.e. urinate in a stream you were immediatly put to death without trial.

BTW if the Phoencians are too tricky try doing the Minoans they are similar, but I know the name of their ruler King Minos. They would be Commercial and Expanionist without a doubt( they established trade routes all over the Mediteranean and were one of the first civs to be daring enough to sail past Sicily) and also would have a naval unique unit that would replace the galley perhaps the Minoan Warship with an extra attack or an extra movement, or both whatever floats your boat :D. The only set back is this would make a World Map with correct starting locations tough to play on since the Minoans would be right below Greece on Crete.

Hey I found out who the king of Phoencia was and it was in the last place i thought to look The Bible:lol:, who thought it could be such a useful history book. His name was King Haram the same guy who helped King David of the Israelites build the Temple of Solomon. If you are are interested i also found about 15 city names for the Phoencians. Suprisingly most of them are already names for 3 other civilizations in the game because they conquered these cities, but they were originally controlled by Phoencia.

I've played a little AoE as well so I know the Woad Raiders...I'll take any help offered the Huns and Phoecians sound great!

Awesome, well here are some city names for the Phoencians I have none for the Huns though :(.

1. Byblos (capital)
2. Tyre
3. Aradus
4. Berytus (also known as Beirut)
5. Sidon
6. Ugarit
7. Cyrene
8. Lepcis
9. Oea
10. Carthage
11. Utica
12. Hippo
13. Tanger
14. Gades
15. Mongador

I took the liberty of listing them from when they were founded and also took into account which ones were larger and which ones were smaller. Oh yeah Hannibal could be listed as a great leader he was Carthaginian.

For the Celts I know there capital was Stirling and I'm sure you can find cities in Ireland and Scotland to use.

As for great leaders for Mongols there is Subedei, Kublai Khan, Mukali, Jebe, Chagatai, Ogedei Khan, Jochi, Orda, Batu, Guyuk Khan, Mongke Khan, Hulegu, Chagatai, and Tolui. Cities are pretty easy considering they controlled almost all of the known world at there height of power. They also had many capitals.
Are you considering making Mongols religous and militaristic instead of militaristic expansionist? We have to many expansionist civs in this game.

A great leader for the Spanish could be El Cid or Christopher Columbus.

The Mongols should be able to build their special unit right away, but are unable to have settlers (except for their original to build the capital) so they have to conquer other cities to expand... maybe??? nah....

Mongols unique unit will of course be Mangudai, but I think it should be built in the middle ages, replace the knight, and have an extra attack since they were mainly offensive units.

I've been working on a new civ (simple so far), like the Celts you are talking about.... but I called it the Scots. I am using Robert the Bruce and the leader and Edinburgh as the capitol city.

The unique unit is a Highlander, which replaces swordsman and has the same stats as a Persian Immortal... but it upgrades to Musketman.

Everything is going very well so far... I created a new civ with the civ copier and the unit works fine. The problem I'm having right now is that it crashes at the Foreign Advisor screen.

I know why, too. It's looking for a file containing the image of the leader, stored in the leaderheads folder. I just don't know WHAT file it's looking for!

Anyone know how/where this is set?

Here are some more Phoencian city names:

16. Sabratha
17. Tacape
18. Hadrumetum
19. Sufetula
20. Theveste
21. Cirta
22. Sitifis
23. Lambaesis
24. Akragas (also called Agrigentum)
25. Panormus

A good deal of these names came from the Carthaginian empire, but since they are considered Phoencians I thought I should include them.

Arabs have been the leading civilization during the whole middle age (from 700 to 1452)
They've invented medecine and the decimal figures system.
That's why it would look this way:

Leader: Muhammad
Abilities: scientific and religious (maybe expansionnist ?)
Unique unit: haven't thought about it, certainly a medieval mounted offensive unit or why not a fanatic?
