[R&F] New civ on the horizon! Abilities?

If it is Lautaro, it seems they had inspirations of different sources.

  • Green arrow: The headband seems very close to the depiction. The feathers would probably not appear in the leader icon as they are on the back of his head.
  • Black arrow: Somewhat curlier hair, but the headband in this picture is not so similar.
  • Red arrow: In this picture Lautaro seems to wear a metallic breastplate. Maybe this is a part what we see as collar? or...
  • Yellow arrow: it is this "orange" cape that is very shiny?
Nevertheless I find the depicted nose quite broad, in comparison to the pictures of Lautaro. Either it's part of artistic freedom, a misrepresentation again (Seondeok, Tamar,...) or maybe it's someone else.

I can not imagine this headband guy with feathers on his head. That does not fit his face yet.
The hair of the mapuche guy is wild and stands for freedom. The hair of the headband guy is cut and cared for.
A metallic breastplate could be some medieval thing.
IMO It is not a cape. It is too high on the neck.

From the New Features video, we can see that none of the mystery civ's cities are even close to the coasts. Either this civ's coastal start bias broke for this game, or there isn't one.

like the Netherlands;)

The more I look at him, the more Polynesian he seems. Will we get a teaser tomorrow? I need to know.

Watch as the teaser for the Zulu gets revealed tomorrow....:p
But the whole world (that has the internet) already knows they are coming.:wallbash:

Heck, we even have a clear description of one of the Zulu uniques
We also basically know that Shaka and the Impi will return as well, though not any details on them.

I think he looks passably Mapuche-- certainly moreso than Monty looking Nahua. Firaxis hasn't exactly been on point with a lot of leaders' ethnicities for some reason. But I agree, he looks very Polynesian.

I agree that he looks Polynesian.

On one hand, I would love a Polynesian civ. My wishlist (ignoring the likelihood of whether the civs will get into the official game) includes civs like Madagascar or Italy, or literally anything Polynesian, as long as it's not a blob. Madagascar or Italy aren't coming in R&F though, and maybe never will, so I'm at least hoping we'll get something Polynesian.

But... on the other hand, if Mapuche ended up not being Mapuche and being Polynesian, which is probably highly unlikely, then we'd still only have a grand total of ONE civilization from South America.

Not to mention that a coast bias (which surely any Polynesian civilization would have) would have to be really out of whack to end up putting the Mystery Civ right in the centre of the landmass in that minimap in the Scotland first look.

With the introduction of reefs and water districts, do we have any other civ in R&F besides Netherlands that may have coastal bias? Will Mapuche fit the bill?

Unlikely. The blue on blue civ seems to not have a coastal bias, which makes a polynesian civ seem a bit unlikely. The leader really does look like he'd be from that region though.

That's a good reason why I'm starting to think he could be Polynesian as well since they are trying to make the coast more interesting. Also there seems to be a new Archipelago Map.

That's actually a really good point. Do we know if reefs are gonna be part of a free patch?
