New Civ: Romania

Oauuu !! Cool !! :)

Finally - a civ which I'll try to play !! ;)

But I have one curiosity : why "Vinatori de munte" replace Riflemans and not Infantry ?
The proper and historical accurate replacement for Riflemans would be "Dorobanti" unit ... ;)

Regards

Aranor, the "Vanatori de munte" unit in weaker than the "Redcoat" unit, don't you think that the units should be more balanced? The romanian unit is/was less known but it doesn't mean that it was weaker, and besides there should be the game balance to consider.

Actually from my reasearch the Vanatori units like the Dorobanti have been around since the Crimean war. However they did not truely become know as the Vanatori de munte untill the first world war, if my memory serves me correctly.

Hmmm well in all of my playtesting, and I can tell you I did heaps!! ;) It was equal to anything that was thrown against me all the way up to the advent of marines. Shqype and I dicussed the abilities over and over for this unit and came to this conclusion that this was the best way to repesent the unit as they are still head and shoulders above the standard rifleman. If you can suggest a more balanced way of representing the Vantaori de Munte please let me know and I will make the nessesary adjustments

The current unit stats are:
Str Abilities
Rifleman 14 +25% vs. mounted units
Redcoat 16 +25% vs. mounted units;+25% vs. gunpowder units
Vanatori 15 +25% vs. mounted units;+20% Hills Defense

My suggestion would be to give the "Vanatori de munte" a strength of 16 because I think Redcoats and Vanatori should be more balanced. :)

It's not +20% Hills Defense, it is a free Guerilla 1 promotion. Free promotions are a big deal since they allow you to easily get the upgraded promotions and they stay on the unit if it gets upgraded (while strength or other modifiers such as the Redcoat's +25% vs. gunpowder units does not).

When the Redcoat upgrades, and when the Vanatori upgrades, the Vanatori will be better.

It is a good unit and has good stats; giving it any more would be unbalanced.

Thanks Shqype! This is the argument that we had for about 2 or 3 days if I remember correctly. As I remeber one of my first ideas was to have it at strength 16 but oyu did sucessfully remind me that it was not feasable for game ballance issues.

BTW - which are the leader(s) and their traits ?

Ooops I though I had already mentioned it  Ahh well here he is then! The leader for the Romanians is Alexandru Ion Cuza. His traits are Organised and Financial

AFAIK the first center for recruiting and training "Vinatori de munte" was near Tirgu-Neamt, around First World War - when becaming clear that Romania would most probably fight against Austro-Hungarian Empire, so such units will be vital.

The "dorobanti" units existed far before this - and is much more a traditional unit. For eg.

In 1734 s-au instituit in toate judetele oltene cete de panduri. La Craiova exista un corp de dorobanti, sub conducerea unui iuzbasa.

... this means that in 1734 in city of Craiova existed already a regiment of dorobanti, led by an "iuzbasa" office.

Regards and sorry for romanian quote. I tried to translate it.

P.S. : Al. I. Cuza and financial ??? That's cool ... :)

Its ok with the Romanian quote, if I need it translated i will ask some of my freinds, Im sure they can translate it.
As for Cuza being financial, from my research I found that he instituted wide economic reforms throughout Romania, disbanding the feudal caste system that had existed for centuries at the displeasure of the nobles throughout Romania. For that reason I decided to make him Financial

Ok righty Ohh.
Well it have been awhile people and with the not so new release of Warlord behind us, and me finally getting off my ass to get it ;) I am updating this civ to be warlords compatible! I know that some people have added "unoffical" updates to mods that have already been released, but rest assured that this one will be something truely unique ;) to my knowlengde what I am planning has not been done as of yet of the civ IV forums in customs civs ;) so look out.

Also what I can tell you all is that there are several minor upgrades to the existing civ. The UU; while still the Vanatori de Munte is now a modern verion of the unit replacing the Rifleman with the relevent stats increased to make it comparible with the marines and other modern infantry. There will also be a new leader! Unfortunatly for all those people out there who have been begging for Vlad Tepes ufortunately he will not be included at this stage. instead I have included Micheal the Great; the first ruler of an Romanian Principality to unite all of the Romanian people together. His traits will be Aggressive and Charismatic giveing the Romanians some real military bite in the game. And now finally the UB, this was a tough one as building unique to romania were difficult to find. But with some help from Mittiu Ioan I finally settled for the Armurarie, it replaces the forge and give 10% military unit build time decrease with +1 extra happieness in the city.

Well thats about it. More updates on when it will be released as I have them. I have run into a mojor bug that as of yet I have still been unable to fix, but when it is everything will come along very smoothly after that.:D

If you like, I'll add these changes to the CIV Gold version of Romania. Let me know.

That would be great, however I doubt it will fit well with other civ, with what I am doing as a special treat ;) But from what I am understanding it will be inline with some future plans that you have said that you want to do with CivGold and EDU. Opppps now I've gone and said to much! lol

Well, I *think* I know what you are planning. And if I'm right, we can simply make the adjustments to kep them compatible with other civs.

Yea that could work, btw I have forgot to mention that I have included the flag and color set you made for the CivGold version of this civ. I like it so much That I decided to include it as the standard for all versions. :goodjob:
