New Civ: Romania

mesa got a question...

mesa raises hand

Weren't Romanians just Slavic tribes that migrated south when Roman borders weakened and mixed parts of Latin and their own dialect into their language?

Oh yeah, do any of you know the Romanian joke about the horses getting stolen?

BTW, Romania just entered the EU, if you guys don't know (hope the EU cleans up the mess over there... mesa stops because mesa getting racsist).

First off my girl friend IS Romanian so be careful what you say or I will take it personally.
Second this forum is not for political debate on the state of the country, it is for comments on my work and how the mod in general can be improved.
And finally in answer to the only part of your question that made sense, yes I have heard that theory that The Romanians were slavic tribes that Migrated south. If you had read what has been said in previous posts in this forum I already have answered this question.

sry if I offended anybody with my previous post. Sorry again.

What I was thinking is that there are many Romance-styled churches in Romania so the Unique building should have something to do with religion...

Thats a good idea and has crossed my mind with this and other civs I have worked on ( and am currenty working on) however as of yet I have not found a way to implement them in an effective way. ie: if the Romanian UB was a Romance styled orthodox Christian church, what would happen if the player was budhist? and another player discover christianity first? it kind of makes the point moot if you follow my drift. If any one knows of a way to implement a religious type unique building effectivly please tell me Im all ears!:p

Aranor, I using chamaedry's cannon forge for romanian UB in my mod. Early upload.

In you opinion, are the true heirs of the Romans in Civ4: Italians, like in my mod, or the Romanians?

Hmmmm I will take another look at it. Maybe it can be reskinned to look older than it is. Remember this is a building that you get in the classical period so I cant have it looking to industrialised.

I think Mitiu Ioan just answered your question perfectly. They are probably both incorrect. The Romanians of today certainly are linguistically linked to the Romans. However in my opinion that is all. There have been countless migrations over the centuries into Romanian territory. From the Persian invasion of the Getai lands, to the Romans themselves and then Slavic and Hun migrations through the territory. Today the Romanian language has many similarities to other Latin based Romance languages as well as ties to Slavic and other regional dialects. As for the Italians, well personally I have never studied to greatly into the modern Italian history, however from what I have been able to gather from Italian people I have worked with and my basic understanding of the language They again have been diluted from the "Roman" blood line, remember to be a true Roman you would have had to have come from Latium itself. ( the region directly around Rome) again the language has been chopped and changed with regional dialects on the Italian peninsula and generally from around the Meditereanian. To be honest I dont think there is any true inheritor of the Roman title however for argument sake you could argue that as Rome is located in Italy then the modern Italians are the closest relatives, even though they may not be. Hope that all made some sense :D

Hey, Aranor. I integrated this into my own mod, and it didn't work. The mod itself does, and I was wondering if you could help me find the problem with integrating it.

I think I correctly spliced the XML together, and when I loaded my mod, there was no problem with XML. The mod started up just fine, and it was only when I started to actually play a game that the it encountered a problem and needed to shut down. This was the case whether or not I was actually playing as Romania.

If this helps, three other mods have been integrated to mine successfully thus far: Ethnically Diverse Units, Great Generals from Barbarian Combat, and The Middle Eastern/Meso-American Architecture mods.
