[R&F] New Features Video

It's possible, however in the picture it appears that the new leader has a cape, if you look closely at his neck. That would more strongly suggest that it could be Lautaro of the Mapuche, due to what these two cultures were know to traditionally wear. That being said, it's no guarantee. Thank you for sharing!
Oh I have no doubts the mystery leader is indeed Lautaro of the Mapuche. Doesn't mean we can't look into different possibilities until he's been confirmed or debunked.

Mapuche is still a speculation (could be Inca). Scotland could be named Celts.

I don't think any of new civs have unique Pike and Shot unit. Zulu and Mapuche/Inca never reached this technological level while being a separate entity. Scotland is possible (some Cleymore-wielding highlanders), but I don't consider it likely.
Italy down the line with a Condotierri UU could be a Pike and Shot replacement.
I posted it on the other thread that I had a dream last night that they changed the colors, and the looks of the leader, in the first look and revealed him to be Huyana Capac of the Inca. Also it was just the city-state Armagh using that new Scottish Castle. :shifty:

Gee man you are so weird you dream of video games

Completely unrelated note: just this night I had a dream of tormenting the bad guy by decapitating him, taking his head, putting it in the box with life sustain mechanisms, and torturing disembodied head until it/he went insane, for example by lobotomy and putting needles in its eyes

I'll stick with dreaming of a computer game.

Monday seems AGES away!

We could be perhaps the only people in the world who look forward to Monday.

Although in my case Monday is my Friday so I always look forward to Monday.

Side note:

This is the week they decided to "take a week off from First Look videos" and less than 7 hours from the normal "First Look" time, we've now confirmed all 3 of the remaining Civs and their leaders.

Nice work, Firaxis. Well played.

Again though, largely based of a freaken leak! Someone needs to take a barrel of tar to the grand ol' ship Firaxis/2K already!

Essentially, yes. We can hold out hope and dream that it's not the Zulu, but well... it's over. The Fat Lady has sung, the Titanic has hit the iceberg, the bartender has called Last Call, the fifer has sounded the retreat. We've lost. We get one cool semi-surprise, one insta-meme, and one horse that has been beaten to death so hard that the zombie-horse is begging for mercy.

:lol::lol: Post of the day goes to Duuk :trophy:

Well I am fairly certain the civ portrait in the new features video was intentional (I do think people digging through the art asset files, they didn't see that coming). Firaxis doesn't care if we know, I mean they put out that poster before anything was announced. It can't be said enough that the official announcements are not for us. Just like tiny details inside other videos aren't meant for the general public. So if we find out early, who cares. People here have, more or less, already made up their minds on the product. Managing the hype and keeping it rolling correctly matters when you are dealing with the general playerbase, but for the people that pour over every little detail, not really. But you know what the people that obsess over the video DO care about? Feeling super smart about themselves that they caught on to the "hidden information".

It actually makes more sense to have Scotland with a maroon / dark red lion on a yellow background, maybe that's why they changed Australia's colours (same background colour) and gave the Netherlands that horn icon instead of the more usual lion (Scotland gets it instead).

I think Scotland's colours and symbol will be that of a thistle: A dark green or light purple background with a light purple or dark green thistle flower.

I hope so. I love thistles.

Maybe they'll go full troll mode and make it a silhouette of the loch ness monster
"'Moat with lava.' Would you like trolls with that? Evil ones?"

Unicorn would be my first pick. Or a lion with two tails? :mischief:

Perhaps, but that nose looks very Polynesian, and he does lack earrings, which we would see if he was an Inca leader, and probably many other Native South American leaders. For me, not being able to find a close enough resembling Polynesian leader is what is making me doubt it could be Polynesia, while the picture does resemble Lautaro, who was Mapuche. At the same time, the lack of feathers in the headband, and the nose shape, make me doubt that it is Lautaro. However...the Devs do tend to make the leaders look different from what they actually looked like historically, so they could have decided not to include any feathers, and made the nose look a little differently. The same logic can be applied for a Polynesian leader that might have a more rounded-looking face, and they could have made it a slightly longer face. Of course, some Polynesians do look that way as well...

Now, if we can find a Polynesian leader who looks like the leader head...

You have to remember Dwayne Johnson isn't full Polynesian/Samoan. He's only half....:p

Someone suggested Guarani's Sepé Tiraju as the mystery leader. Judge for thyselves.

I actually wouldn't mind the Guarani being added. Linguistically, it's shouldn't be that hard to find a speaker. I've heard that many non-Amerindian people in Paraguay are capable of speaking Guarani.

Unicorn would be my first pick. Or a lion with two tails? :mischief:
I forgot about the Unicorn; that would certainly be the most unique icon for a Civ. I don't think any other country in the world has such an affinity with the Unicorn (Scotland's national animal for those who did not know.)

Now I'm in two minds; either White background with a dark blue unicorn (like a blue version of Japan and Georgia) or the green and purple thistle - both are Scotland's two major national symbols. (there is also Saint Andrew's Satire/Cross but it would mean they would need to be blue and white which is unlikely with the America, Greece and France already too similar)

Most likely an Italian unique unit would be unlocked at the mercenaries civics though I'm not sure it would replace the pike and shot.
