New Gameplays (ONE THREAD)

Got bored so i skipped part 2 for the most part just checked it out in small sections. Never found war interesting in 5, Or 6 so far... Its like taking candy from a baby.

Could tell the uploader was pretty bored when he had 20+ units needing to be moved each turn.

Has there been 1 video that has reached 150 turns so far? Everyone just warmongers all day long which takes up to much time.

Agreed and I too would like to see someone who skipped warmongering and tried to reach as far as possible. War is the most boring time consuming thing to show. Part 1 was fun to watch. Part 2 clearly showed "I'm bored as ...."

This I think is going to be a major problem. Clearly you will need a lot more units for even the most peaceful of CIV IV games, let alone warmongering, and moving them all each turn will become tedious.

They should make units more powerful, with more movement, and bigger zones of control; more like composite armies. But a lot more expensive to maintain. That way they have essentially the same affect strategically, but the game play is a lot faster.

Marching a dozen units around to cap a series of cities is beyond tedious; two composite armies could do the same thing with a lot fewer actions.

I think something like a max of 5 units per tile, plus minus 1 depending on policies etc. should do the trick with some drawbacks (I expect they have thought about it with their 2-unit corps and 3-unit armies * ) and balance the maintenance etc. so that you could field one such stack with a few supporting "lone" units MAX in ancient and classical era. And it should be enough with sufficient strategy (what I mean by enough is not stumbling against 3-4 such armies on a regular basis upon attacking and by sufficient strategy good old outwitting the AI on the battlefield). 1 unit-per-tile should still be very much enough to deal with barbs, requiring at least an army (1 stack) with supporting units to deal with civilizations.

* I'd suggest ranged damage spread across the stack. That is archers 30 damage shot would spread across the stack of say 5 units, dealing 7 damage to each. Notice the bonus damage. With cannons and other artillery gaining even more bonus damage. While the stack itself gains melee bonus. This all encouraging more spread out fewer (stronger and expensive) lone or 2 to 3 unit stacks (corps) in later eras. Kinda abstractly simulating (civ style) history with "ancient Persian stacks of doom" to modern organized warfare.

Something like that, obviously a lot needs to be thought of and tested. Someone probably will bury this idea fast

I like your idea. Considering the devs have played around with other aspects of the game, making some bold and interesting innovations, I'm surprised they have done so little with the 1upt system. Maybe they have plans for a major overhaul of combat in an expansion...

It looks kind of funny how they all hate them and declare war while they cannot even make a stratch with those few units they own - "fearsome guys" The AI needs a lot of work, I can see already.

Lots of words about stacking:

I'd prefer something simpler such as you can stack X amount of units with a Great General. Perhaps a civic could be added that allows recruitment of generals who will allow stacking or in later eras (Modern) stacking in adjacent hexes. Sometime in the renaissance where military tactics started to develop sufficiently would be about right. Prior to that the lack of command and control is appropriate, otherwise your military knowledge/leadership is only capable of handling single units with supports.

 I was looking for this thread the other day, but the search engine wouldn't find it. It's because I was searching for "gameplay" instead of "gamplays".

Thanks for bumping it.

I wanted to fix it, but I couldn't do it :) It seems moderators do not care about typos, in most cases :D

Moderator Action: You know, all you have to do is report your initial post and request a title change. Pretty easy. Thread title typo fixed.

With 2 months left I'd expect it to go like this :
-A handful of developers lets plays on thursdays here and there.
-A bunch of preview by youtubers in the 1-2 weeks before release

This.

And i wont lie, those LP 1/2 weeks before release are gonna feel like torture.

Just watched this one. Commentary is good. Clearly he realises some of the mistakes he made.

Dehumanizer I think pillaging the whole road was a mistake because it was going to the city he wanted to attack. It would have made it easier to move his military units.

I had to stop when he didn't take the unescorted Brazilian settler heading for that lovely spot on the coast...

Guys I need my fix of game plays. :) I have watched them all even the ones in foreign languages. Firaxis you fly some youtubers in again RIGHT NOW
