New Gameplays (ONE THREAD)

Question about AI effectiveness! Did the surprise attack manage to do some real damage, or did the units just get slaughtered without doing anything?

Almost took his Capitol but then he knocked them back. The AI still needs a fair amount of work though.

Cayinator's play through is pretty good, he makes few mistakes (other than I believe mistaking that Builders can build improvements over non-resource tiles as well as ersource tiles) but it's pretty good indicator of how difficult the game is to grasp.

Yeah I agree. Clearly he didn't understand everything but at least he puts it out there at the very beginning that he's never played before.

But even so he has seemed to have made LESS mistakes than those who knew, which kind of suggests taht people coming over to Civ 5 will have a bigger learning curve.

That's true, and as aztecs you get the worker when you beat an AI/CS unit but it just says you acquired a unit. I think he throught they were some sort of warrior unit rather than worker.

The english attack was awful, but the Japanese nearly took his capital and would have with only slightly better unit management. 2 of of the japanese units split off of went for another city but if they had focused Washington I'm 90% positive if would have fallen.

That said, the main issue was that America's army was still in london. Hojo's forces were all warriors and 1 slinger. Even though he could have captured Washington, his forces would have been decimated once the American military arrived.

It seems as if the A.I. does not yet utilize pillaging but I suspect that's just early-build issues. A.I. pillaged constantly in civ5 and now that it will have even harsher effects on an empire I expect the A.I to pillage a great deal more.

Pillaging should make the AI A bit more effective in war. I have a feeling they have a lot of tweaking behavior to do. It's pretty weak right now.

Wow that Aussie dude's video was by far the best video I watched (on 1.5 speed)! And he never played a civilization game before  Not only that, but despite some bizarre "Ineverplayedthisgamebefore" decisions (like pillaging that road to Brussels ), he was one of the most competent players so far :crazyeye:

And that exploit  While watching all those other videos by known figures in civ community (like quill, marbozir, hipster dude) I wondered why won't they try something like that...

EDIT: He seems to to get bored in the part 2

...and that poor builder that is doomed to follow the troops

"Well, that escalated quickly" is the best description for part 2 :crazyeye:

Hahaha! Yeah, I saw him pillaging the road and cracked up. Rookie mistake.

All in all I think it shows that it doesn't matter if you've been a Civ fan since the 1st iteration or if you're playing for the 1st time, the game has something for you.

Got bored so i skipped part 2 for the most part just checked it out in small sections. Never found war interesting in 5, Or 6 so far... Its like taking candy from a baby.

Could tell the uploader was pretty bored when he had 20+ units needing to be moved each turn.

Has there been 1 video that has reached 150 turns so far? Everyone just warmongers all day long which takes up to much time.

This I think is going to be a major problem. Clearly you will need a lot more units for even the most peaceful of CIV IV games, let alone warmongering, and moving them all each turn will become tedious.

They should make units more powerful, with more movement, and bigger zones of control; more like composite armies. But a lot more expensive to maintain. That way they have essentially the same affect strategically, but the game play is a lot faster.

Marching a dozen units around to cap a series of cities is beyond tedious; two composite armies could do the same thing with a lot fewer actions.

That is why they have corps and armies in the lategame.

Found a new gameplay - Aussie bloke that doesn't have Civ experience.

https://youtu.be/chiPWBNdO5M

He doesn't have Civ experience but destroys everyone at the beginning of the game. It's because the AI can't even defend itself properly. They don't build units or what? He is at war with everyone but no units etc.
