I have just looked at the sys reqs for civ 4 and my laptop wont cut it. I have enough money to buy almost any laptop you can throw at me. I would like to know what is the best, BEST laptop there is, cost does not matter to me, much. I also dont want some third party laptop.

i need the mobility of a laptop. More than half the time im not at home or near my desktop ( which can run civ 4, and very well at that) and i want to be able to play civ 4 when that happens. My old laptop is an inspiron 600 which frankly means not much room to upgrade.

In that case I reccomend you stop playing Civ when your suppose to be working. ;)

In other words, I don't know what you should do. I'm not a laptop person.

I, for your information have Onemoreturnitis. Therefore im not at all productive if i dont unwind.

Well Im in Canada and my Alienware laptop will easily play Civ4
P4 3.8, 2G ram, Alienware® 7700 NVIDIA GeForce™ Go 6800 with 256MB of DDR3 memory video card and dvd burner and so much more. Now it was also just short of $5000 canadain, but OMG is this thing great. Thank GOD I didnt pay for it.

sounds really nice
no offence though but i have heard of better laptops.

Anyways, here's a better way to put the question-what company should i buy a laptop from and what should i try to upgrade.

yeah but its awesome for gaming, and its killer fast. Whatever you get, get a USB operated cooling fan. I did and its made all the difference.

What companies do u like better? all the gamer nerds @ my office told me to get alienware... in fact when I brought it in, they all were drooling. Almost as bad as bringing a stripper in there!!

Nah, s***w alienware. I want one that is well,... powerful. Plus i find the alienware cases absolutely disgusting. Ehh, id rather have something less shapey
and more sleek.

This probably doesnt make much sence

personally I wouldn't buy a laptop with the P4 in it (even if it's the mobile version). they suck waaaay too much power, which results in low battery endurance and constant fan noise....I'd prefer a Pentium M. the perfomance is slightly lower, but not tragically so, they use low power and, if you get a decent one, are almost silent.

Personally, I've always had great luck with Dell notebooks, but there are some that don't like 'em at all...Maybe you should have a look at the Inspiron XPS or 9300. I own the latter (Pentium M 1.86GHz, 1GB RAM, Geforce 6800 Go, WUXGA-Display...) , and it pretty much rocks....

3.8 GHz on a laptop?? Didn't know they were this fast already, usually they lag in comparison to the Desktop's speed, but your laptop is as fsat as you can get in a Desktop.
Although I am not sure Ghz matter anymore, you laptop is HT nor it is 64. So is a P4 3.8 faster than a P4 HT 3.0?

yes it is a 3.8 and no its not loud at all. MY lil brothers desktop is a p4 2.8 and my laptop kicks the snot out of it. It's not loud at all and i like the case looks. People always stop and take a second look at it.

But it sure is fast.

Yeah, an Inspiron 9300 would probably be the best gaming laptop you can get without spending a stupid amount of money. You can get it nicely equiped for less than $2000. If you do have a stupid amount of money, then maybe look at Voodoo PC - they have some really high end laptops. For $5000 or so you can get a machine there with a dual-core Athlon 64 x2 4200, 2 GB Ram, and a Geforce 7800GTX Go video card.

I have a stupid amount of money to spend-15000$ to be precise. The voodoo pc looks really nice but i want to hear other opinions...

um no. Even though i have that much money i still need to save at least half towards a car.

so, any suggestions. Like adding a poll to this topic. Sorry to any passing mods but i would like to have a poll added or should i just create a new thread?
