New Leader Hint! (Looks like Shaka)

So, when they announced Poland, the specifics were detailed in the Polish game media. Same for Brazil in the Brazilian game media. What I'm getting at is: does anyone speak or read Zulu? :)

South African gaming media? I bet they'll publish it in English.

Jacob Zuma will personally make a huge speech that announces the Zulu officially.

I think I found it:

Shaka Zulu (1787 - 1828)
The Chief who made the Zulus supreme
At the beginning of each winter the all-conquering Zulu regiments would gather in their ancestral lands to pledge themselves to new conquests with the salute, 'Ngathi impi', translated meaning 'because of us, war!'

The man who ruled over the Zulus at this time of their greatest glories, who had led their growth from a small tribal clan into the dominant power on the coast of south-east Africa, was called Shaka.

That would make a great name for a Zulu UA

This is all the confirmation i need, its the zulu, no doubt in my mind.

I get this way with the Songhai and their empire that lasted "some 100 years"- oooooh that's so LONG. You know the civ you're playing is insignificant if the empire that destroyed it (Morocco) is not significant to get into the game.

Morocco/Moors had the bad luck of being lumped into the Arabian civ, maybe they'll make it into the game in Civ6.

Also please no Italy.

We'll see about that!

It's not a good new, maybe there will be no more DLC after BNW:(

That would be more like an exceedingly good news to me, especially for the future of the franchise. I wouldn't be happy that there would be no more content for Civ 5, but I'd be very happy if that meant they abandoned the DLC model in favor of the crunchier expansion system. I can dream. What you need to hope for for Civ 5 is a third expansion, not more flimsly overpriced DLC :P

It's going the opposite direction. With the demise of the PC platform and the trend where everything will become more micro-transactioned, PC games will need to be more aggressive in this model to become financially sustainable (and not fold up shop).

I actually wish all new civs become DLC. That way I can pick and choose the ones that I want and the ones I do not (like Zulus). ;)

I'm surprised: I'd always thought they kept Shaka for making cash as a single DLC...

I'm bemused that anyone thought the Zulu might appear as DLC given that one of the scenarios is Scramble for Africa...

If anything, Portugal (possibly Italy) would be more likely DLC candidates, although my prediction is still that Portugal will make it, Italy won't, and there won't be any more DLC Civs.

With the demise of the PC platform

The demise of the PC platform is a smokescreen and a fallacy, and PC games have never sold better than they do now.

and the trend where everything will become more micro-transactioned, PC games will need to be more aggressive in this model to become financially sustainable (and not fold up shop).

There are many examples of successful modern games that reap the benefits of not going down that model.

Indeed, PC's are the dominant platform for gaming. However, what is commonly considered a game is changing. The $60 box game may well be facing a well-deserved death.

But in the case of Civ V, expansion packs do seem to offer a value proposition for the player, and Firaxis can promote them with more fanare than they can DLC releases.

The Zulu are all but confirmed. The only other explanation for the clues we've been given is that Firaxis is purposefully manipulating us in order to surprise us with another civ. I don't think they're doing that.

Or they're giving hints for the exceptionally slow. Not everyone is following this forum and isn't aware of our thoughts.

The Ostrogoths are not in the game. I guess we need to remove the Roman Empire. Thank god they're finally adding the Assyrians because I've been looking forward to the Babylonians being in the game since the beginning, but they had to wait for that.

You do know that Babylon is a DLC right? One that has been in the game since, like the release of Civ 5?

This is a ridiculous comparison. Rome did not fall because the got invaded by others. Rome fell because it became politically corrupt and rotten at the core, it inflated it's currency, and it was fighting too many wars of conquest. Rome got so big that it collapsed under its own weight.

This demise of the Roman Empire weakened Rome to such an extent that it gave others an opportunity to attack Rome. This would have never been possible in 100AD when Rome was still politically, economically and military powerful.

To compare Songhai and Rome is ludicrous on every level. A single Roman legion from 100AD could have probably conquered the entire Shanghai Empire.
